In general I don't like the Toronto Sun. It borderlines on glorifying/exaggerating bad news. But I don't think we should point the finger at him until the Sun posts his side of the story. There are always 3 sides...

I agree with Lisa, as unfortunate as her situation is, people need to take responsibility for their actions. She learned a lesson.

They write it SO dramatic that he abandoned the kid by not picking her up at the bus stop like she was left in the middle of nowhere. Would they have included it if he had picked her up at the bus stop before he split. My daughter is 11 and she is capable to walk home from school on here own. Maybe the guy's rat, but that could have been left out.

Just last Friday I was having a discussion with someone in a thread and was told that maybe the USA could learn something from Canada's less restrictive immigration requirements....

I think the USA could use a DUMBBRA law, and for sure a DUMBJOCK law as well. Yet, USC's complain bitterly when consular officers become suspicious of someone's true love in a high fraud country and want to investigate the case further.

Since the U.S. passed the IMBRA law to protect females in other countries from guys in the U.S. Maybe Canada needs to pass a DUMBBRA law to protect woman petitioning men in other countries. Have the law state before you can petition a man your IQ has to be greater than your bra size. LOL

we've seen similar articles and posts right here at VJ about US citizens whove married foreigners and been duped, what's it matter if in this instance it was a Canadian? People are cons and victims no matter where you go.

Journalists hype stuff because that's what sells newspapers, and honestly, if an 11 y/o girl has been abandoned on a Toronto street, that can in fact be incredibly dangerous! Do you know how many have been scooped up in broud daylight and raped and dismembered and dumped in the lake? THAT's why it was mentioned! It makes the guy more of a villain and the mother and child more victimised, it sells newspapers. And makes the general public suspect immigrants all that much more, both in Canada, and anywhere else in the world.

IMBRA isn't just for protecting females...it's for protecting ANYONE that applies. Both genders are subject to IMBRA.

Because I'm TIRED of hearing about how evil men are. If that story had been about a man being ripped off I would bet it would have never made it to the newspaper.

IMBRA was written to give equal protection, but if you think it was passed because Congress wanted to protect men I have a bridge I can sell you.

There are just as many evil WOMEN out there too. True, you don't hear about that many...unfortunately it's this society...evil women don't make news stories like evil men do. It's not fair I agree. I was unfortunately abused by an "evil man" as you term them. I neither asked for it or deserved it. However, I shall not go into details of his abuse. I choose to keep personal details such as those to myself. It has not marred my thinking of all men, obviously, since I am to be married in 11 days.
