depressing moment!

I finished my AOS successfully. I did not have any trouble. Now, I am seriously insanely depressed. The US economy is seriously screwed. And now, I am having a super super hard time to get a decent job.

I recently got a job at Disneyland. Oh my god, this is super depressing. I am not even getting enough hours because those Disney hotels are not making any money. I was hired as a full time. Now, I have a way less than 20 hours to work. It is so hard to survive. It is insane. I do not understand why they hired me at the first place.

Now, I have no idea what to do.

I have a BA from American university. So I am thinking about taking a computer class to brush up my skill.

In the future, I am thinking about being an immigration officer or having a finance related job.

Can anyone share experience?

Try volunteer work thats related to your profession it might help.

I am thinking about taking 6 weeks banking class at a local community college. I am interested in working at a bank and I have never worked at the bank. So I am thinking about taking a basic class and be more competitive.

To be an immigration officer, you need US citizenship.

I recommend contacting the career office from your university. They are usually good at hooking you up with local job fairs and employers.

Try also joining a temp agency, to build that american work experience.

What's your major and what is your work background in?

I majored communication studies. But, I have never really worked before. I only worked on campus cafe during my senior year and went back to my home after graduation.

Now, I started a low level job at Disneyland which pays me about 10 dollars with less than 20 hours per week. Sadly I am still looking for a decent job.

My husband will go back to grad school from fall. He will try to get a teaching position as soon as possible.

Of course he will continue his work at his company.

I am interested in finance,but right now it is not a good time to go in.

We hope that we can save up some money and move to a different place besides orange county CA. I really hate this location. Everything is super expensive and not even possible for regular people to get a home or anything.

My sister in law majored in communications and worked in admin for a number of years. She worked for Acer in California for a few years before moving onto a non profit organization. The work she did was somewhat relevant to her degree and she seemed to enjoy it. Have you looked at contacting recruiting agencies to see if there are any temp admin assignments they could set you up with?

It is hard at the minute to find a job. I've been keeping my eye out for something that's more in my area of expertise but there really isn't anything in this area at the minute... So I'm trying to get some more certifications if I can lol.. I'm thinking about doing some contract work after the normal 8 - 5 job starting after Christmas just so I can try and get my foot in the door over here.

Have you thought about checking the job pages of the local governments?.. City, County or even State? That's one of the things I was checking once I got my EAD and I applied for just about anything and everything else that was full time. I ended up getting a job with a local government and I'm still there 2 years later!!!.. 40 hours per week in a cubicle in a big building full of people doing the same.. not quite the most exciting thing on earth to be doing but it'll look good on my CV/Resume, it pays half decently at the minute, the all important benefits, we get public holidays off...

If you can get into a customer service department for a bank and then switch departments when u can that is a good way to get into banking, however you see the news about banking...................have you ever thought about translating , ......can you work for the court system (I know here in NY they hire per diem translators they pay over $100 a day.....)how about government job i know there are some where u dont need citzenship..................how about the TSA (I think u only need perm residence for this one, however not 100% sure.............................can you give private lessons for Japanese language of tutor? child care? Try to be creative .. temp agency.......................... it will always help u to update computer skill...persistence I believe is key....USPS check their website and your local post office for test dates, my husband and I passed the test a few months ago........good luck and u can pm me anytime Sherry!

I am currently taking up cosmetology classes to be ready for what may come when I get there... I am not very comfortable getting employed right away and consdering the recession it may take a long time for me to get a job.

We were told they will be laying off 210 people here with a possibility of another 600 in June. California is in big trouble budget wise. They as saying Calif will be 41 billion in the hole by the end of the 2009-2010 FISCAL year.

My husband and I are really thinking about moving to a different location after he finishes his grad school.

So hopefully until then, I can get some skills. I am seriously thinking about taking computer classes and getting a job as a administrative assistant or something like that.

Definitely try to get in touch with recruiting agencies to see what they may have for you, even if it's part time.
