But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

OMG, I went on vacation with my Mom and her two crazy sisters to Malta once. I'm tellin ya, you haven't LIVED until you've played bingo in the town square with the caller yelling numbers in arabic and then finishing it off with a night of karaoke. Too funny.

Actually, people on Malta speak Maltese, not Arabic - although it is an understandable mistake as they sound very similar. :D It is something like 60% Arabic derived, with the remainder a mixture of Italian, Sicilian and English. It is written in the Latin alphabet and is classed as the only Semitic language written in the Latin alphabet in its standard form.

It has been said that someone who speaks Arabic need only spend an hour in Malta's Airport to understand Maltese. :P But if you call a Maltese person Arabic you ARE likely to get hit over the head with a soggy pastry - they're very proud of their nationality.

Here endeth the lesson. You can go back to flinging pies now.
