Filing fee: $455

Visa fee: $131

Other stuff: passport pictures, medicals, police report, plane tickets, mailing documents, etc etc...all of these are going to depend on (1) the country and (2) the couples preference....I would say anywhere from $500+

I wd start the K1 and apply for it ........ i am reading the guidelines........but can someone tell me whats the total expenses for the k1 process........... can some give an approximate ......... i am at India.....

Do you mean the costs for filing, or just a ballpark of the cost from first meeting to your fiancee stepping off the airplane?

I don't know where your fiancee lives, but you need to meet the person within the last 2 years. So that first trip is going to cost you anywhere from about $1,500 to $3,000 or more. You could probably do it less if you're only going to Canada or Mexico. After that you have the filing fee, which is $455. The visa fee will be $131. You have phone calls and general communications which will run you another couple hundred or so. If you'll be sending money to your fiancee, you'll need to factor that in. You'll be flying your fiancee to the states so that's another $1,500 or so. If he/she has to travel for the consulate interview, that's at least another--oh, let's call it $500 but likely more. These numbers will go up or down depending on where in the world your fiancee lives, and if he/she has children that you'll also be bringing over.

Bottom line is that there are so many variables that it's hard to say. But I would expect it would cost at least $5,000 at a minimum. Expect to pay more.

Depends what you want included in the estimate, but ballpark/rounded figures are as follows:

$500 : I-129f (petition)

$200 : visa fee + medical & misc.

$1000 : Adjustment of Status (required)

$500 : Overhead (shipping documents, faxes, photo printing, notary, etc, etc)

--------

$2200 total, approximately, and that's assuming that a lot of extra expenses an earlier poster mentioned does not apply.

So.. it's not cheap... but well worth it to have my sweetheart here with me

We estimate our expenses were under $2,000 (all our 'stuff' was filed before the fee increase in August)..but that doesn't include any 'incidental' expenses such as travel, moving, time between jobs (or lack thereof), etc...(K-1 through AOS/EAD)

For some its alot cheaper. For myself its been over $10,000

$1250 x 2 for the plane tickets I bought to visit her twice

$800 for the dna test for our child so she could get a passport

$950 for her plane ticket to here

Ive sent $300 a month to help support her and the baby every month for 16 months which is $4800

Approx $350 for the visa process

$200 for her medical and the baby

900 pesos for minor paperwork

Then theres countless plane ticket ranging from $50-100 for her to travel between Butuan and Manila.

$1010 - AOS

$340 - New EAD if have not yet recieved GC

$545 - Removal of Conditions

$675 - Naturalizaion

But in the end id pay double that to know soon ill have my soon to be wife and child here with me in my arms.

Good replies members ......but I am still a bit confused ........ are all these datas uptodate ??/

So apart from the plane expenses etc the absolute necessary things are as Jessy G suggested :

$500 : I-129f (petition)

$200 : visa fee + medical & misc.

$1000 : Adjustment of Status (required)

$500 : Overhead (shipping documents, faxes, photo printing, notary, etc, etc

so total $2200 ??

does the above include

$340 - New EAD if have not yet recieved GC

$545 - Removal of Conditions

$675 - Naturalizaion

I am from India and already met her in USA. I am in India now and we are planning to apply for K1. We have all the evidences printed out and ready as a album.

The expenses directly associated with the visa process from petition filing through naturalization would be all of hte above except the EAD which is now included in the AOS fee, or...

$500 : I-129f (petition)

$300 : visa fee + medical & misc. (Medical expenses can vary significantly by country.)

$500 : Overhead (shipping documents, faxes, photo printing, notary, etc, etc.

$150 : vaccinations

$1010 : Adjustment of Status (required)

$545 - Removal of Conditions

$675 - Naturalizaion

$3,680

Assuming you begin in 2008 here's a breakdown by year.

Year

1. $1,300

2. $1,160

4. $545

6. $675

The overhead may be a bit high but the medical exam could eat up the difference. It's good for budgeting though.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

FWIW, I didn't include the lifting of conditions and citizenship because:

1) citizenship is optional

2) once the immigrant gets a job, you can say, "pay for your own lift of conditions, beeyotch!!"

The latter brings up another question about who foots all this cost. I'm curious and tempted to start a new thread about this, but I'm too lazy right now... So maybe tonight...

Lots of good input on this thread

I fail to see how asking the cost means it's not a good time for you.

You make it a good time. We could have kept saying it wasn't a good time to file for AOS and my husband could have gone on incurring illegal presence...it's called saving, though.

My husband paid entirely for his own AOS. Well, sort of. Used wedding money for it, as well.

In short..... It's expensive.

My fiancee is in the Philippines. Between government fees, plane tickets, legal advice, monthly support, sending her to the other side of the country twice for her medical exam and interview, I've easily spent $10,000 so far. And she's not even here yet. I'll need to spend another almost $2000 for her plane ticket here.

Once she arrives, there the adjustment of status from visa to perminant resident, SSN, drivers license, marriage, significantly increased insurance (auto, health, dental... maternity coverage alone will be $700 a month).

Granted, some of these expences would exist whether my bride is domestic or "imported" but you still need to factor them in. If we get the maternity coverage, my insurance costs alone will increase by more than $1000 a month, but that would also be true if I married a local woman.
