visitor visa for girlfriend

here is my situation im a  us citizen. currently going thru divorce. I have a Columbian girlfriend that I have met in Columbia.

what are her chances of getting a visitor visa? she has strong ties to her home. job, property, car, mortgage. family, does not plan to stay here. only visitin for 1 week.

 

 

second question. should she mention me as the reason to visit? we don't want to lie about anything. lying to immigration is not in the best interest.

As you said, always be upfront and honest about why she is visiting the US.

 

And all she can do is try and apply and provide them all the proofs listed as why she will return and not misuse the visa to immigrate to the US.

It's always worth applying to see what happens. Just be honest and prepared for any questions about your relationship.

thanks for the advice.

my thinking is that lying is not good. officers are really good at spotting lies. and she does not like to lie either. so we want to be upfront and honest. there is no plan for her to stay. she will be returning back home. 

 

we will file for tourist visa and be upfront about everything. will keep you posted on  outcome.

Of course you are NOT suppose to lie. That is one of the worse things to do. Always be honest. If caught in a lie she could incur a permanent ban from the US.

If she has travelled abroad before, be sure to mention that, it can be a big positive.

has not traveled.  she has her own place. job. car, bank account. that should prove strong ties to home country.

It is Colombia and Colombian. I don't know why Americans keep referring as Columbia/Columbian. Yesterday even VP Pence used the wrong word on twitter because he meet with the president of Colombia. It drives me crazy.

I'm crossing my fingers for you. I went with the same situation. I applied for a tourist visa back then to visit my then bf now hubby. I had strong ties like you mentioned but no travel history. First part of my interview went well. The consul asked enthusiastically about my business, job, salary, etc. However, when he asked the reason for my trip and told him it's to visit my bf, his voice and facial expression changed. Then, I was handed the dreaded blue rejection letter with no further statements, stating I don't have strong ties.

 

That denial was a silver lining, though, when we filed for a K1 visa. My interview was done in 5 minutes, perhaps seeing the reason for my denial before. Let us know how it went for her. Good luck!

I can attest that it takes gringo boyfriends awhile before they spell Colombia correctly.

 If she does get denied this first time around, you might want to see if she can qualify for a Mexico tourist visa, or a tourist visa in any other country and then meet her there on your next vacation - to build up her international travel experience for perhaps another try at a US tourist visa, down the road. You may already know this but Colombians can travel to Panama without a visa so that's a natural spot to meet her at, and there's many nice tourist things to do in Panama.

thanks for all the great feedback.. its like a rouletee and it depends on the immigration officer. but I believe that if she lies it will be much worst. so we are going with the complete truth and then

You know what they say: cheaters never prosper. And that is definitely true when it comes to US immigration and visas! Honesty is always the best policy.
