applying for k1 visa for fiance in Pakistan

Hi everyone...

this is my first post. I got engaged in Pakistan on march 23rd after a two year relationship. I just sent in my petition on April 26th, and they received it on April 28th. Now I've been looking through the posts on VJ and I have realized that there is a potential threat of something called Administrative Processing happening to my case. I'm very worried about this as my fiance is a male from Pakistan and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how to avoid falling into a black hole of delays? I was hoping to get this visa within 7-8 months...that is the timeframe I was aiming at.

Also, I think I may have overshot it a "bit" in filing my petition. i thought that i had to prove an ongoing relationship as well and i included emails, chats, phone records, engagement ring receipts...and it ended up being somewhere between 200-300 pages. Does anyone think that will end up being an issue?

Its going to take around 7 months just to get approved at USCIS. Your going to need to change your aim.

Congratulations on your engagement. What service center is your case going through? If it is VSC it could take quite a while. CSC is moving a bit faster.

As far as administrative processing goes, I am under the impression that sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. Look at others experiences that have filed in Pakistan and see if they encountered administrative processing. I would think unless they are skeptical about something that was included on you application you should be fine.

Concerning how many pages you sent, you needed to show proof that you two have met in the past 2 years and some proof of an ongoing relationship. I did not include much proof of the on going relationship. I believe they are more concerned with that at interview time. But I have seen posts that people have sent a few hundred pages, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Seems like me and you will be on the same boat since I sent my petition on April 26th as well. They received it on April 27 and am awaiting for my NOA1. I agree with the above although I`m the type that believes that the more you send the better chances you may get but you wont really be needing all that until the interview. Its best to record everything you do now until the date so you can show them new evidence as they may be interested in that too. I only sent them my copy of itinerary,Pakistani visa, phone card bill of this year,facebook convos of this year,8 pictures,letter of intent,engagement receipt and a 1 pg letter on how we met and became engaged.

95% chance you will have some administrative processing. It has nothing to do with your relationship and everything to do with checking his background for all sorts of lurid things such as terrorism, links to terrorist, any specialty training, any trips outside his country or even some places within his country.

There is not a thing you can do to prevent it. Just hang in there and keep the faith.

Thanks. I sent it to the lockbox facility in Lewisville, TX but since I live in California it will probably be sent to CA one, if I'm not mistaken. I did include proof of having met (ticket itineraries, passport stamps, etc) as well. I'm happy to hear that it is not completely determined that he/we will end up in AP. Thank you!

OP- I just sent mine off in the last 2 days as well (fiance in Colombia). Mine was close to 300 pages also. You should be fine as you mentioned sending passport stamps. But 7-8 months? Doubtful. It's taking 6 to 6.5 or 7 months now for NOA2's at VSC, which means at least 9-12 months total, no? I assume by the time they get to the April filers it will take 9 maybe 10 months for the NOA2s? At least that is the trend. I'm planning on at least a 12 month process from the day I get the NOA1

Djstorm... is that all you sent? I read on here that itineraries mean very little. Passport stamps, boarding passes, hotel invoices... that's what they're looking for in the "havving met in last 2 years." Gathering from what I have read... itineraries and Visa, not sure I'd say that's going to work based on what I've read.

I can't believe somebody said 95% chance of AP. No way that doesn't sound right at all. There has to be something that triggers suspicion before they would place it on AP. Such as the name checks seem to have hit in their database and they need to further checking, or maybe they are suspicious or your relationship, etc.

But 95% is way to harsh.

95% is not too harsh for Middle Eastern country. In Egypt I would bet it is higher than that.

Some countries have mandatory administrative processing. Pakistan is one of them. It all depends if it is done before or after his visa interview. We were in AP for 17 months (several years ago, it has now sped up) because he is from a country considered to be a sponsor of terrorism.

Congratulations on your engagement. Since your fiance is from Pakistan and given the current state of affairs, my opinion is that it is more likely than not that your case will go to AP after the interview. There is nothing you can do to prevent that. I'll say it again, it's not a certainty but it's a probability.

Don't worry about the big file, the file I just sent in was very large. If you want to ensure that a CO will see evidence of your relationship that you want them to see, it's best to put it in with the petition that you submit to USCIS. More often than not, CO's will not ask for or take any evidence you bring to the interview. By putting this kind of evidence in at the beginning (front-loading), it's part of the file that CO's will look at prior to the interview.

Wow, didn't know that. Now I'll have to check up on Cyprus (South), technically it may be in the middle east. Thanks.
