missicy got a reaction from Harpa Timsah in Building credit
I applied for a credit card as soon as I got my first job and had an income. Capital One offers a credit card for new immigrants. I applied for it and was approved for a $500 credit limit (I had no credit history). I payed all my bills on time and 6 months later I had a good credit score and Capital one raised my credit limit to $750. Give it a try, it's a good CC (no annual fee, 1% cash back). APR is high, but if you pay your bills on time, you don't have to worry about it.

USAA is far more than just a bank. Banking is just one branch of their business who's origins come from serving the military community. You're lucky they set you up beforehand without that info as most banks wouldn't. It sounds like they want the additional info to verify your identity which will ultimately protect you and your assets. If you have any questions why don't you just give them a call? They have very good customer service and should be able to answer any questions or doubts to your satisfaction. I do some of my banking, my investing and insurance with them and I find their service, rates and products very competitive and AAA+. I do think their web site could use some tweaking but it really isn't that bad at all especially if you use it frequently enough to learn how to surf it. Maybe take a different perspective and you'll see you're hooked up with a quality organization.

I find the majority blame the Republican party in general, not necessarily Romney. Unfortunately it seems that the Republican party wants to blame this magical "free stuff" on their candidate's loss, not on the flaws of their own party.

He confirms and provides another example of what's wrong with the Republican party. This attitude was rejected by the American people, and will continue to be rejected for as long as Republicans continue to disrespect the citizens of the country it wants to lead.
Stop painting every Democrat or Obama supporter with the same, wide, inaccurate brush. People who abuse the system and are only in it to get "free stuff" are not the majority of people who voted for Obama. They do not represent them.
And I know the ridiculous people in this forum are applauding because their hero Mitt actually voiced their ignorant views, despite facts and reality. Again, an example of why this party is failing and will continue to fail. The majority they cater to does not exist.
Look within your own party instead of trying to find other people to blame for your failures. Isn't the Republican party the people who want to take personal responsibility for their lives? For the last week, I've heard nothing but whining and finger pointing.

This whole line of reasoning is specious. Democrats are inclusive; they fight for justice for ALL. Republicans are exclusive - justice for the very few at the expense of others (and name-calling and insults to the others too, just like in this forum).
I think inclusivity is the American way - in fact, it was one of the ideas this country was founded on. The Revolutionaries were fighting for rights for all people. Why don't modern republican "patriots" do the same?

Again, if that nonsense makes you feel better about the outcome on Tuesday, then by all means ... cling to that all you'd like.
The truth is that the party is outdated and losing its base. Its hardcore base is growing older while the younger generations are flocking to the other party for various reasons, including social issues. People say social issues don't matter, but the GOP's extreme views on them are actually making it harder for them to win a national election.
Until the GOP realizes that the country they want to lead is progressing and changing and become willing to change WITH it, rather than just stick their heads in the sand and hiope for the best ... then they'll have a damn hard time going forward.
Your argument is inaccurate, and I think deep down you know it's inaccurate. This should have been a fairly easy election for Republicans to win and they couldn't do it. The blame is on THEM. And they need to start looking at themselves instead of taking the easy way out and blaming whatever decisions Obama made that they don't agree with.

There will be no fines or penalties but your GC application will be considered abandoned and you will have to start all over again with a CR-1/IR-1 visa if you decide to move back to the US.
Even if you recieve your GC before you move to UK, you won't be able to use it to return if you stay out of the US for long period of time (you will have abandoned your permanent resident status).

You leave, you are banned. You can reapply from abroad for a spousal visa when you are ready to return. You'll need to file for a waiver. It will be a long, complicated, and expensive process. Obviously your wife is more important.

missicy reacted to didopage in USCIS lost my medical report for K1, so AOS got pending
I don't get the idea where submitting a new report (that you will get for FREE!) would mean admitting it's your fault. USCIS already said it was their fault, that they lost it. You did nothing wrong and they know it.
I would request a new report from your home-country, as they seem very kind to do it and for free, and have it as a back-up, in case nothing comes up from the USCIS after a while. Or even submitting it to the USCIS as soon as you have it (by making an InfoPass and submitting it to someone at your local USCIS office).
Not much chance to see a light if your husband decides to "fight" with the USCIS if they don't find the lost docs. They have the power to decide on your approval or no. The goal is for you is to have your case approved, without drama. Plus it seems that you're kind of lucky, you can have a new report for free. Other members had to re-do a whole new medical.
The idea is not for you to go against your husband, but try to talk to him about it, that you're lucky it doesn't cost anything to request the new report and have it as a back-up... I mean, where's the problem?

Nigeria is the #1 most fraudulent country in the world in more ways that just immigration. It is so unfortunate. Americans aren't the only victims; I know a german and, bless her heart, she's suffering the consecuences. Not to mention, there's a rise in dometic violence victims in the hands of some of these shenanigans.

First off, did you even read the instuctions to the I-129F petition? It clearly states that one of the requirements is that you must have met (physically) at least once within the past 2 years. You should never have filed in the first place. They didn't even look at any evidence you sent them once they saw that you had never met. I can't imagine what kind of proof you sent in for somebody you've never met. Most of us who met our fiancees usually has sme worries about having enough proof, but never meeting?
Nigeria is one of the top fraud countries. I assume you are now aware of this fact and you would still attempt to bring over a person who you have never met? I know you believe all that "God knows best" stuff, but you are setting yourself up big time. You seem to be a perfect mark; somebody who seems to be somewhat naive and blindly accepts whatever happens. If this guy plays you, you will probably be here telling us how it was God's plan.
How did you meet? Who made the first contact?
What kind of work does he do? Have you seen any proof? (I will not give my opinion on what I think he does for a living; yes, it's a generalization, but lets be real)
What is the age difference between you two? Are you fairly close in age or is he much younger? If the latter, that should be a red flag for you.
I already know that nothing anybody here says will change your mind (most people have to learn the hard way), especially since you think God will protect you, but I hope you are not back here in a year teling us how you were used.

I don't think any special exception is justified in this case. As others have pointed out, there is no dire humanitarian emergency. The child and parents are living in a first world country. The H1B has only been pending since last December.
Further, the entire basis for the petition is deceptive. The child is a US citizen who can return to the United States at any time. The only thing it would take to "bring Evie home" is a plane ticket. This is a ploy to get people to feel sympathy for the child in an effort to have an exception made for the parents. It is deceitful to use the child this way. The child doesn't have an immigration problem. The parents do.
I also believe the petition is pointless. President Obama isn't going to see it. Even if he does, he doesn't have the executive authority to order DHS to issue a green card to someone unless they're eligible for one under the law. The President has the authority to issue directives that affect how an executive branch agency enforces the law, but he can't order an agency to break the law. These sort of exceptions are possible, but they must originate in Congress with a private bill. Congress is the legislative branch, and they have authority over the law.
Finally, petitioning for an exception to United States federal law should probably be restricted to US citizens. If any member of the President's staff sees the petition then they aren't going to be impressed seeing signatures from Canadians and Brits.

We have lived plenty. While I feel for your family, there are many families in worse situations than yours.
Your grandchild is with her parents. Your family in the US and the UK can freely visit each other on the Visa Waiver Program. Not all of us are as fortunate.
Look at EAbbas. She has been waiting for over a year for her husband to have his turn at immigrating to the US. Her daughter has a brain tumor and daddy is not around. Compare that to your situation with a married adult child who has her husband and her healthy child. Your situation is better than EAbbas'.
My father is 80 years old. He waited for 12 years for my brother and his family to immigrate to the US. His two oldest grandchildren aged out and could not immigrate with their father. My father is a former high ranking South Vietnamese official who fears for his life if he return to Vietnam to visit. He has never met his grandchildren. They cannot get visitor visas. He will probably die in the next 8 years while waiting for his grandchildren. He may never get to meet his own grandchildren. Your family can actually visit each other without even having to apply for a visitor visa. Your situation is better than my family's.
These are two stories among thousands on this site. Everyone is waiting for someone. You are not the only one separated from your family.
Before you ask a man to walk in your shoes, perhaps you should take the time to walk in his.
You are not advocating for an overhaul of the immigration system. You are advocating for an exception to be make for your adult married daughter and her husband.
Evie doesn't have an immigration problem. She has dual citizenship. She can live in the UK or in the US. She doesn't need a visa to come back to the US. It is her foreign born parents with the immigration problem. You are using Evie as an innocent face to elicit an emotional response to benefit your adult married daughter and her husband.
You are asking us to sign a petition to make an exception to the wait that all of us here have to endure. You haven't answer why your adult married daughter and her husband who are living in a first-world country should be treated differently from the rest of our families. Why should you and yours be able to skip the lines that the rest of our families are in???

I am a non-believer. I do not foist this on anyone. I respect the rights of others to believe or not believe whatever they want, as long as their religious beliefs do not impinge upon my life. I've been chastised by people of many faiths for choosing not to believe, and if it has been Christians who have more frequently taken issue with my lack of faith (as they have), it's only because I come into contact more frequently with Christians.
I'm offended by showy, shouty atheists. It's totally embarrassing and disrespectful to those of faith and those without.

The ban can begin for prior illegal presence. If she were to leave the US, and try to come back, the CBP agent would be in his/her authority to say, "Sorry, you overstayed last time for 2 years, you are refused entry and have a 10-year ban." This happens frequently.
D/S is "duration of status." Her status is Canadian visitor. She stopped visiting a long time ago. Her status was terminated when she stopped visiting.
It is NOT okay for Canadians to live in the US with no visa just because they did not get a I-94 at the border.

I am so glad that you took the time to ask us here on VJ about getting married, but I would like to point out something that you mentioned. Unless you are members of some other type of Church of Christ, for example "United Church of Christ", I can see no reason biblically why the church would not recognize a marrital union formed in front of a Justice Of The Peace. I attended Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, and Rochester college in Rochester, Michigan, both colleges based on and supported by the churches of Christ, and I can think of no example where a marriage with a minister is commanded by God. Nor all my years as a member of the churches of Christ have I heard this either.
Feel good about the advice here, and I am glad that you can move the date of the marriage forward, but I do suggest that you question the person who has advised you that without a religious ceremony, the marriage would not be valid. Like I always say, if it isn't in the book, it isn't so. Good Luck.

I understand the religious aspect of this, but because of the "legal" aspect of it, can they get married in the courthouse NOW and have a religious ceremony later? I know some religions won't even look at the "legal" marriage until the religious ceremony is completed. Its a possibility. And the fact of the matter is, unfortunately 9 times out of 10 they don't care about your religious views and traditions when filing for the AOS. I personally would do the courthouse marriage (even if its not recognized in my religion as being official) and then have a religious ceremony later on with all the traditions and customs that pertain to your religion.
Just my two sense. Unfortunately there is a thing called separation of church and state in the USA and the state normally doesn't care about the religious part.
    Good luck!
