JCG1121 got a reaction from M+K IL in Kids Acquiring Citizenship Automatically - How Do We Obtain Passports?
    Hello mam521
I feel you, I went thru the same thing with one minor kid. I got very frustrated when I could not book any appointment online after trying with all USPS location even 50 miles from where we live.
The online appointment booking did not give me the option to schedule an appointment for 2 persons (my minor kid and me). This is my personal experience: I went to one USPS location to ask them if there is any possibility they can help. I was told to come back at a certain time window of a particular date of the week that they accept walk-in (for this location, it's Tuesday every week, from 10AM to 11AM). According to them, an application takes 15 minutes and there were only 2 staff in charge of passport application at the location I went (it also means they only accept 8 walk-in applications), so they advise me to come and get line ASAP because we would take 2 time slots. We did what I was told and submitted everything on 1/31 (still "In process" status). They did take my daughter (expired) green card, fyi.
Hope this helps and wish you the best of luck!

Per the Passport Status page, there was a system issue which caused some passports submitted between Feb 6-Feb 13 to show "Not Available".  As of a few days ago, wife's status is now "In Process".  I'm just happy that her Naturalization Certificate wasn't lost.

I carried with me a big backpack of documents to the interview (plus my husband and kids - who were not allowed to enter the building). The officer did not look at anything! 😊😂🤣 Yet the interview went well and I got approved on the spot!

Why are you questioning people who would like to change name? For me the reason is simple: I've been using this "new" name since I was young, and I like it a lot, and I have never liked my born name which I was not able to change in my original country because these names are in different languages. I'm sure there are way more other reasons people would change their names, including but not limited to immigrants, marriage. I saw some reason was that, their original name sounds beautiful and have deep meaning and story, but because their name on passport is only allowed in Roman alphabet, it COULD have totally twisted the meaning of their name in one's native language, sometimes it became disaster. Imagine some named "Shiting" or "Phuket". (Not me in this case).

Your question sounds like changing name is nonsense, and wants people to convince you of believing their reasons while you are in a doubtful situation. (Just some harmless conclusions).

JCG1121 reacted to arken in n-600 wait times, SSA won't issue SS card without naturalization certificate
Some misunderstandings here and some suggestions:
    1. You applied for certificate of citizenship (not naturalization certificate) for your kids. They are already US citizens through some means i assume through a parent.
    2. The N600 processing times could be well over 1 year or so, it's just 6 months in your case. Check uscis processing time for your locality.
    3. At this time just apply in person for SSN for your kids once everyone in the US. Passports will do. May be you talked about pending naturalization certificate and the SSA rep said you need that. Don't worry about the person you talked on the phone. The actual persons checking and working over there have better knowledge.
    4. You can enroll your kids in school without a SSN.

When applying in person, just apply using the passport. You don't even need to mention the pending Certificate of Citizenship as it's optional.

I'd say its wrong input = wrong output case. I assume you mentioned to them that you had applied for your kids' naturalization certificates and are still in process. Since one with pending naturalization certificate/process can never get a US passport without first getting naturalization certificate, he probably said so how in the world they got the citizenship/passport and likely gave his lecture of not so true temporary citizenship. That's a big difference between Certificate of Citizenship that you actually applied for vs Naturalization Certificate that you mentioned.

Perrrrrfect!! I am just waiting for this kind of confirmed information. Can you copy-paste your LETTER text indicating that you want to update your SS (mentioned in your post above), I just want to re-use same language (remove your personal info in that text). I have updated my notes here: https://tinyurl.com/myUSCNotes

The whole process took a week, I first applied for my passport and passport card, I then filled out the SSN application and mailed it off with a letter stating that I am updating my citizenship status and included my passport card as evidence of citizenship. So if anyone is worried about SSA loosing their naturalization certificate, you don't have to mail that, just mail your passport card if you applied for one.

@seetsuh Deeply Appreciate the info! However, would you be so kind to confirm that you actually sent the Passport "Card" rather than the Passport "Book"? Pardon my question, but no where in the SSA Form SS-5-FS  (Page 2, Last Paragraph - "Evidence of US Citizenship") do we see that the Passport "Card" could be submitted. If the Passport "Card" is acceptable, this is a great tip!!!  Spending an additional $30 to get the Passport Card and not be worried of SSA's delays (in case an international trip arises in the interim, one could use the Passport Book to travel while the Passport Card is at SSA for the Citizenship Status update.) Hence my question. Anyone else successful in updating their citizenship status at SSA using the Passport "Card". Thanks again!

How do you know the name change at naturalization at your USCIS field office won’t take longer than 2 months?

You can ask when  you arrive for oath.

    Update:

I-751/N-400 Combo interview conducted this afternoon at the Dallas Field Office.  Appointment was at 1:00PM.  We were called about 1:30PM.  Officer wanted to see evidence of marriage from filing the I-751 (2019) until now.  Officer wanted to see evidence of marriage since I-751 filing.  I showed him both our driver's licenses, bank accounts, credit card accounts, Credit Cards, apartment leases (with signature page), Car Insurance.    He said, " You meet the requirements for I-751".  After the I-751 interview, he said "Now, we will start the N-400 interview".  He gave me the choice of either staying in the room or going back out to the waiting room. My wife chose to do the interview alone.    He then escorted me back out.  About 30 minutes later, the officer escorted my wife out to meet me.  She says she was asked the 6 easiest questions among the 100 possible ones.  Who is the current US President, for example.

I'm glad that interview is done!!!   Now, we wait for the oath ceremony!!!
