Definitely wait for the the CFO. They sometimes hold it when they look for other requirement that you can't provide lol. Welcome to the Philippines. I guess? It's crazy here.

Although it is a pdf with a QR code these days.  They did eliminate the actual stickers.

If you are flying from the Philippines with a US immigrant visa (or K1/K2 visa) but do not have a CFO certificate, you will not be allowed to board the plane.  No exceptions that I know of.  The BI officer at the airport will not let you through.  Airline check-in staff may also remind you to prepare your CFO certificate before lining up at immigration.

Not sure if the US embassy in Manila changed their standard procedures but when I got my spouse visa in 2021, I got an email from USEM with a PDF attachment that mentioned the CFO requirement.  It should be in the file "Notice - MIV (Instructions)".

You will be stopped at passport control if you even make it that far.  Most likely the airline will not print your boarding pass at the counter.

PS.  It is CFO/GCP not GFP.

    Greetings all!

My case is currently at NVC, most of my documents were accepted but I was asked to re-submit a few. My police clearance which they actually meant National Bureau of Invistigation (NBI). Because in Philippine we have police clearance and NBI clearance. It's crazy I know.

My question is: What is the approximate average time that NVC take to review re-submitted documents?
Am I back in line for NVC's "case review time"? Meaning, will I have to wait until they get to the date I re-submitted my document?
Advance thank you if you reply.

Ps: sorry for the fonts idk how to fix the fonts style and size.

Since this is the Philippines, most likely it will come down to if you are able to get a passport appointment at a DFA office before your interview.  If you intend to use your husbands name and can get an appointment to get a new passport before your interview it would save allot of trouble later.  Immigration spawns allot of new documents. If like us, you cannot get an appointment to get a new passport before your interview you will have multiple other new documents to change once you get to the US.

A few years ago, that was exactly the case....it happened to us.  Our case was at NVC for a total of 24 weeks.

Most likely you get put back at the end of the line and you start from scratch.
expect to wait 3 months +

Just a heads-up, getting a new passport in your married name (to an evil foreigner) will likely require you to attend a CFO seminar and obtain the certificate. You would probably need to get one anyway to leave the country so it's actually better for you to get it sooner than later.

Don’t worry about the additional cost of renewing your passport. Do it now, it will save you a lot of money and hassle later.

Apologies, I missed the IR/CR vs the K1/AOS here.

Word consular should've tipped you off that it's an immigrant visa case in which case they WILL and DO go off of the passport name. Also, the forum is IR/CR visa so what your K-1 visa wife went through will differ.

Good point about the K-1 vs CR-1 difference.

With CR-1/IR-1, the GC is automatically issued according to the visa and will arrive in the mail. Maybe it's possible to file for a replacement GC once in the US but that will cost you $540 and you'll have to wait for the replacement, which can take months.

So, options seem to be: change the PI passport now before your visa is issued or wait until you get the GC and then file I-90 and pay $540 for replacement later.

Interesting. So basically you can keep your original passport unchanged and the only time you'll need to use the old name is when flying for plane ticket purposes I assume.

I know that a lot of Americans when they get married often keep their passports in their old names but then updated their driver's license and others to the new name, so makes sense it could be similar for GC holders.

An6el reacted to Ontarkie in Do I need to change my passport last name?
That must be a first. Since they can't or are not supposed to issue a visa in a different name then what is listed in the passport.

Oh nvm your wife was a K1 not the same thing. The OP needs the passport to be in her married name if she wants the GC in her married name. As the Visa will be issued in the name to match the passport. Once she enters the US her GC will be processed as what is shown in her passport.

An6el reacted to Dashinka in Do I need to change my passport last name?
That is not true.  My wife has never changed her name in her Russian passport (a very difficult/bureaucratic process in Russia) yet her EAD, GC, DL and now US passport are in her married name.  My wife still uses her Russian passport when she travels to Russia, and she has had no issues.

To the OP, all you have to do is make sure all your USCIS paperwork is filled out in your married name and include a copy of the marriage certificate if and when you have a need to use your PI passport.  If the process of changing your name in your PI passport is not a big deal, you can do that eventually, but it is not required for immigration purposes.

    Good Luck!

If you want green card in married name your passport needs to be in your married name. Consular goes off of what your passport name is.
