  12. This article has interesting details about Juárez the city and especially the U.S. consulate there. If you find this article valuable, upvote this post. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ciudad Juárez: Strengthening U.S.-Mexico cooperation for a secure and prosperous new frontier Ciudad Juárez (or simply Juárez), Mexico, and its sister city of El Paso, Texas, exemplify the deep familial and cultural ties that bind Mexico and the United States. In addition to a complex heritage, the cities share economic, environmental, and security challenges, as well as mutual prospects for a bright future. 13. Just in time for Monkey Day on Dec. 14! See link within for crucial information about baby spider monkeys. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gladys Porter Zoo featured in 'Wild Kingdom' episode on monkey smuggling Gladys Porter Zoo's proximity to the U.S.-Mexico border puts the black market for wild animals squarely on its doorstep. When federal or state authorities intercept smuggled animals along the border, especially in the Rio Grande Valley, Gladys Porter gets the call, said Dr. Patrick Burchfield, the zoo's director. That reality has already attracted national attention and it's about to get more: The Saturday episode of "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom Protecting the Wild" on NBC will include a segment featuring the zoo's work to save one endangered species caught up in the cruel, extremely lucrative illegal trade of wild animals. The episode is titled "Second Chance Spider Monkeys." "Since February of 2024 we have received a total of 39 baby spider monkeys," Burchfield said. The zoo is faced with the monumental task of caring for the animals, giving them the veterinary care they need and bottle-feeding them until they’re healthy enough to be transported elsewhere. 14. Read details about Mexican (and general) visitor-visa policies. Other interesting links are herein, too. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Holiday tourism from Mexico on the rise despite immigration crackdown CIUDAD JUÁREZ — The number of international tourists traveling to the United States has declined, with one exception, Mexico. After a dip at the beginning of the year, visitors from Mexico are back, and their numbers are growing. In fact, those tourists are a bright spot this holiday season when many plan trips to visit relatives, enjoy entertainment and amusement parks and, of course, Christmas shopping in malls from San Diego, San Antonio, or El Paso, across from Ciudad Juárez. The increase in Mexican travelers is rising despite repeated videos on social media platforms showing ICE or Border Patrol agents tackling and arresting people, the majority of them, Latinos, to carry out Trump's mass deportation promise. And it comes just as the U.S. government plans to require visitors applying for travel visas to provide their personal social media history going back five years, among other requests, according to a recent proposal by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, or CBP. 16. Our district made the phone policy clear and sensible. The kids seem to have adapted without complaint. Mini-B. says, "The WiFi at our school sucks, anyway." Mini-B. seems to watch almost exclusively funny/humorous videos (which he frequently offers to show me) and basketball videos. My objection is the bad language in many of them.
  17. This indeed has merit, but I think it's crucial that Paxton beat Cornyn, and polls might remain very close between now and then. Cornyn's PAC goons are already plastering the TV stations -- multiple times daily -- with attacks on Paxton and Hunt. "This ad is not endorsed or sponsored by any candidate," my hindquarters.
  18. If she's black, her life mattered, so where's the problem here?
  19. Here is our (belated) Wednesday-on-Friday Semiofficial Semiweekly VAWA-Thread Joke: =========================================== ASSIGNING BLAME A Merchant Marine captain and several of his officers were returning to the ship after a long evening of partying ashore. As they climbed the gangway, the captain threw up all over himself. Pointing to an apprentice seaman above him, he shouted, "Give that man five days in the brig for vomiting!" The next morning, the captain was checking the log, and he saw that the young seaman had been sentenced to ten days, not five. He asked the chief mate why. "Well, sir, when we got you undressed, we found that he'd also soiled your pants."
