You should have some paperwork from the N400 which requested a name change. That is your proof.

Frankly, i would advise the group to start collecting money for US girlfriend to travel to Australia.  He won't be getting a tourist visa any time soon.

You would be smart to get your wifes citizenship befor you move. Will save you many problems in the future. Meanwhile you can spend your time planning , building or whatever so your move is easy. Been there done that. We are in the process of building in her hometown at this point. then we will start being snow birds (6 months here and 6 months there and then decide if we will do full time and sell everything here. Takes a lot of consideration.

extension letter and Expired green card worked for us. if you get pushback from clerk ask for a supervisor. They are the Brains of the outfit. Do the real ID upfront, saves problems later.

Bob in Boston got a reaction from Chancy in I-485 expedited ( but expediting is slow ) [merged threads]
My wife was a 24 year overstay, she had her greencard approved 4 hours after interview. (new card being produced) I dont think your overstay is related to the delay. I think it has more to do with background checks and such do to your line of work. Due to your age  and Irish citizenship you were around in the days of the IRA and a lot of other firearms related gunrunning  and such. ( we had a Boston Irish gang running Guns back in late 80s and early 90s) Maybe that is the extra checks. With the expedite was not time to run them. Its a lot harder to take the green card away after its issued .Another reason is that your in a busy office..... I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. You will also find USCIS marches to the beat of their own drum and its hard to gage your case with others in your same shoes. Each case might appear to be similar but are so different once all the issues are broken down. Good luck and be patient.

The rules are not similar at all IMHO.

My daughter, born in the US, could have spent her entire life in Canada, barring the day she was born and the day her son was born, and my grandson will still not be born a Canadian. Whereas if her American husband naturalized as a Canadian before my grandson was born, my grandson would be Canadian.

Under U.S. rules, if my grandson was not born in the U.S., he would be a U.S. citizen based on the 5+ years of physical presence of either parent.

Canada used to have a physical presence option that for transmitting Canadian citizenship. It ended after Canada send a rescue ship to Lebanon to save a bunch of Canadians  who had never set foot in Canada.

Bob in Boston reacted to Scooter McGee in Oath ceremony: clarification on dress code and documents to return
Personally, I'm going to go "suited and booted". The invitation to the naturalization ceremony states that it is "a solemn and meaningful event, [and] USCIS asks that you dress in proper attire to respect the dignity of this event." I think that gives a clue; and I want to dress in a manner that befits the significance and importance of the occasion, and is respectful to the ceremony, the surroundings and my fellow new citizens. Shorts or jeans never crossed my mind; and I cannot for one second fathom the couple who showed up basically in beachwear.

As far as the Dress this is a once in a lifetime event that millions of people would love to be in your shoes. Dress for sucess as your now a citizen of this country. Make sure to take a photo and stand proud!

I guess not having pride in one self is not a show stopper for USCIS. The show must go on!

Will do! There is a museum on the top floor of the courthouse too that is the recommended place to take pictures afterwards, so we'll do that unless the ceremony runs waay overtime.

Pants acquired - nice local shop that's been around since before WW2, very friendly staff, can't believe I have not been there before. They promise the alteration can be done by EOD today or first thing tomorrow, phew.
