It's been quiet on this thread lately... but happy to say I passed my interview today and was able to take my oath same-day. I registered to vote as soon as I got home and going to the post office tomorrow to apply for my passport. What a relief after 16 months of waiting!

Thank you @Wafflebot : I did expect that. I have taken a passport appointment at the local post office on the same day towards the end of the day. I just want to submit the passport application as soon as I can to save time.

    1. That was not true in in July this year. My interview was scheduled for 1:30 p.m., and I had my ceremony at 3:15 p.m. that same day. It seemed like they were doing oath ceremonies at least every couple of hours well into the afternoon.
    2. Same-day oaths seemed pretty standard in SF the months leading up to mine in July 2021 (based on what I saw on this forum), but I have not paid attention to this since then.
    3. They took my green card when I signed in for my oath.
    4. My app was based on the 5-year rule as well, and while I brought a whole bunch of documents with me, I wasn't asked to show any of them. Your mileage may vary depending on how you answered certain questions on your application, for example of you have any outstanding tax balances. My assumption is that, if they needed any additional original documents, you would have received an RFE before they scheduled your interview.

@ImmiGeek There was no option to submit a passport application after my oath, I think that's been pretty standard during COVID.

same advice we give to any immigrant with this problem
    keep yourself safe
call 911 if he assaults you again / you have the same fights to not be mistreated as anyone else in the US
ask police if there is a safe house for abuse for you to go to and if not get out to a safe place / you own apartment or rent a room
true you do not have to sign divorce papers but you do have to be served with them
and each state has its own divorce laws so you need to at least consult an attorney for the rules in your state   / good idea is to look up your state and divorce laws
then hire the proper lawyers divorce and immigration to help you
but stay safe and so sorry for what you go thru
BTW  he can't just send you back

To update everyone who's supporting me on my journey. Today I've become a U.S. citizen! The interview in the morning went really well. I went there about 20 mins ahead of the appointment time, and the security person just let me in right away. The check in was quick, no photos/fingerprints taken. The wait didn't take too long either, maybe about 10-15 mins past my scheduled time.

Everything was done through a couple of iPads: there is one iPad for video call with the officer, and another iPad for reading/writing tests, reviewing documents, etc. There's also a printer so that the officer can print the result notice.

The officer was extremely nice and courteous, she was asking me to show my green card, state ID, and the current passport, then proceed to ask me about my personal information (like name, date of birth, etc.). Then we went into reading/writing test. My reading test was "When is Columbus day?", and the writing test was "Columbus day is in October." Then we proceeded to the civics question, then go over the N-400 again, ending with the yes/no questions at the end.

Once the officer told me that I passed, she asked if I want to do the same-day oath ceremony. I said yes I'd like to. She then printed out the form and said that somebody will come and get me from the room and I should wait for about 10-15 mins for the oath ceremony notice since I'll be having it later that afternoon.

The oath ceremony happens in the same building but a different entrance, so you must be careful about that. They checked me in, took my green card and gave me my certificate right away. Then an officer gives a quick talk, we did the oath, and was shuffled out of the room. And that's really it. Unfortunately, no photo opportunity at all
  15. Thanks
Wafflebot reacted to Scandi in Starting the N-400 application online. Why type of Tax Transcript needed?
We have seen several people who filed under the 5 year rule being asked for tax transcripts at the interview. They're for free, so there's zero reason not to upload them or at least bring them, just in case. Filing your taxes and paying what you owe is proving good moral character, something that is important no matter what rule you file under. They can certainly ask to see your transcripts.

Hey Folks... long story short: I was approved and by the time I had exited the office and was in my car, the system was already changed to "Oath Ceremony will be scheduled." .

Long story: I live in the other side of the city from the USCIS office and my interview was scheduled for 840 in the morning. However! I arrived there at 720 😀 as I knew from my normal pre-covid morning commute up the beltway to my workplace, arrival time could be unpredictable if I had decided to leave home any later than I did. No biggy, I just sat in my car, people watched and looked at emails until closer to 8am.

I went to the front door and the guard standing outside was checking interview slips before letting folks into the building. Inside there were maybe 30-40 people. Most were there with spouses and / or lawyers. Very few of us were by ourselves and I will assume that all us single folks were there for our N400 interviews.

At check in they give you a number Pxx or Kxx and tell you to wait until you hear your number being called.  Masks were mandatory.  I was dressed in business casual. Some folks were there in t-shirts and jeans.

840 comes around; nothing. I'm not sweating it - it took 30 mins past my AOS interview to be called so I was expecting a delay. But, it is now 920 and people who had come in after me were being called and I started to wonder if maybe I missed my number being called. By now, the office was really buzzing with more people coming in.

Finally at 940 I heard my number. The officer was all apologetic about the delay and mentioned that I was to be her second interview and her previous one did not go as planned hence the delay to seeing me. I followed her to her office where she asked me to swear under oath that everything, I was about to say was the truth.  She took my fingerprints and a picture. And gave me a little bit of hard time about how long it took for me to apply for my GC (married 12 years before applying for AOS in 2017). She really wanted to know the entire story

Anyway, we went through the civics test

    1.    What is the economic system in the United States?

Then…the computer system went down. Would you believe it…She was so apologetic, explaining that the system would not allow her to save my answer. Then the system shut down completely and she called someone to come help. From their discussions, it was suggested that I could be there a long time and every thing might have to be done by hand and uploaded to the system after the end of the day…I felt real bad for her.

Eventually…maybe 10-15 minutes later, the system was back up and we were able to continue.

    2.    Where is the Statue of Liberty located?
    3.    If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President?
    4.    Who is the Governor of your State now?
    5.    What are the two major political parties in the United States?
    6.    What is the name of the Speaker of the House of Representatives now?

    Reading: Who votes for Congress
Writing: The people votes for Congress

Next was the yes / no questions from your N400. This is a chance to update anything was submitted wrongly. I was asked about my citations (speeding tickets in 2003 and 2016) and whether I had received any since submitting my application. At the end she said she was approving me for naturalization however she warned me that I was not yet an US Citizen and I should not state that I was until after the oath. She also mentioned that I should make sure that I do not receive any citations between now and the oath as they would pull me out of the oath ceremony if there were any outstanding legal matters.

Overall despite the hiccups with the system which caused some nerves in me, the experience was pleasant.

Interview in SF this morning at 9:30am - I got there at 9, was in the interview room around 9:20 and was out of the building before 10.

    Questions:

Which ocean is on the east coast?
    How many senators are there?
What is a right of the federal government?
Where is the Statue of Liberty located?
    What happened on 9/11?
What are 2 rights of US CItizens?

    Reading: Who is George Washington
Writing: George Washington was the first president.

This all happened via video call with an officer in Fresno. They were nice. It seemed like the computer system took its time.

I then got escorted back to the waiting area, and waited another 10 minutes to get my notice letter with the Oath Ceremony scheduled for later that day.

The oath ceremony happened at 1pm, and I was out of that building at 1:15. Quick security check, handover over the notice letter and greencard, Escort to the chair where a white envelope and my Naturalization Certificate was waiting for me.
Quick talk about how special this day is, taking of the oath, and that was that. They asked everyone to leave and look at the white envelope at home.
They took the oath of about 40 people that time.

And you're correct, I already received the bio reuse notice back in December 2020, so the next logical step would be to schedule the interview.
