I filed in the beginning of April 2020 - still No movement on case since Biometrics August 2020 -this  despite multiple expedite requests and congress representative involvement -

so frustrating indeed -  I just dont get it - the process is deeply impaired if not broken …
up to 36 month processing time - when we applied for K1 visa back in 2019 it was a 9 month processing timeline -

Aparrently nothing can be done to speed things up and get things back on track ..

i am fearing the subsequent steps in our long journey will also be significantly impacted.

Finally had our interview last Tuesday! I was anxious and nervous but the agent was friendly. Questions were general about how we met, what we like to do together, questions about each other’s parents and then just more stuff directly off the form. He didn’t give us an answer on the spot but told us he didn’t see any issues but he still had some stuff he’d like to review. We asked how long the review process may take and he said 120 days at most. But by the time we had lunch and were driving back home it updated online to “new card is being produced.” As of today it’s already been mailed out and the sense of relief and freedom we both feel is crazy. It’s been such a long and arduous process but this platform has been so helpful even during times of radio silence concerning my own case, when I came on here and saw updates from others I got so hopeful. So thank you guys for helping me on my journey and for letting me witness yours!

My husband and I had our interview today at the Baltimore field office at 1115. We checked in and sat in the waiting area. We were called back about 1135. The officer swore us in and then asked for ID. We gave her our DL. She asked why we had different States. I told her because I am military I kept my home of record DL. She said she will ask both of us questions from the 130 and just my husband should answer questions for the 485. Before she started she asked if I wanted to give her anything. Gave her lease, tax returns, bank statements, and utilities. She also asked for the medical (she noticed a box wasn't checked so she had to make sure it wasn't a make or break). She asked to verify information on both forms and updated our address since we moved from Florida to Maryland during the process. She also updated my husband's job information. She asked what we use our joint bank account for. Asked all yes/no questions. In the end, we waited for her to get the go-ahead with the medical. While she was waiting to hear back she said she will approve the 130. In the end, she said congratulations I am approving both forms. By the time we got to the car, the case updated to card being produced. Hi Visa journey,

We had our interview yesterday May 19th, 2021 at the San Bernardino, CA USCIS office.

The Interview was short and for the most part painless since we submitted a lot of information regarding our bona fide relationship with the original application and took much more to the interview itself. My wife did get asked about her travel history and the adjudication officer at first was telling us that she was only supposed to have used her Advance parole for an emergency only and not for leasure travel , but since I told her that the combo card was applied for to be used for multiple entries and after showing the adjudication officer a copy of the i-131 showing that we had applied for multiple entries and we did not list any emergency on the form, the officer said that we were ok. Not sure if she was testing us. The officer did not approve us on the spot but only hinted us that it was going to be approved citing that the file needed one last review before a decision could be made. Our status changed online about 4 hours hours from exiting our interview from “Interview Scheduled” to “New Card Being Produced”. Then today on 5-20-2021 it changed again to “Case Approved”. Good luck to the rest of you. We will let you know once we have her 2 year CF1 Green card on hand.

We had our interview today. We waited for about 30-45 minutes, but the actual interview itself was about 10 minutes. It was very quick! We had 4 files stuffed to the gills with us and all he wanted was our birth certificate, marriage certificate and 2020 taxes. I asked if he needed anything else, but he wasn't interested. Good to be prepared though. He told us that because we'd already gone through the K1 process there wasn't any need for an intensive interview. He implied those that skipped the K1 are scrutinized more. He told us our interview was more of a formality if anything. Needless to say, he approved us on the spot.

Got home and status updated to new card being produced!

Good luck to anyone going to theirs soon! 🥰

    PROs.

A US citizen can't be deported and never has to deal with US immigration.  A green card holder can be deported and has to renew his green card every 10 years.

A US citizen can vote.  An LPR could get in lots of trouble for voting.

A US citizen can live outside the US and has the right to enter the US.  A green card holder must live in the US and have trouble entering the US especially if he is outside the US for more than a year.

    Some jobs require US citizenship.

    CONS.

A US citizen must report worldwide income.  An LPR does too.  However, the LPR can escape US taxation by giving up his LPR status.

Getting US citizenship may result in losing foreign citizenship when those foreign countries do not allow for dual citizenship (China, Japan, etc.).

Just did the interview today. And case online updated an hour after to New Card Being Produced.

interview was a breeze. Our officer seemed nice, friendly, chatty but also intelligent and competent. She explained my vaccination records are still valid and that the i944 is basically not a thing anymore so we didn’t need to resubmit any document that isn’t related to both of us. We also only submitted docs that we haven’t already like the new taxes and pay stubs, health insurance, life, and car. Also submitted like hundreds of pics with description (date and place) on the back which she appreciated especially the ones that we “bookmarked” which have other people in it. She seemed to be so familiar with our case that she can even recognize familiar faces on the new pics we submitted 😅. Apparently they like it when there’s other people in the pic like family members, etc but she also understood that because of COVID, there wasn’t a lot of get together’s.

overall, since according to her, our case was kind of ‘unique’ from the usual “we-met-online” meetcutes (we didn’t meet in a dating site) she didn’t grilled us that much.

so just answered truthfully and stuff and we were done in 20 mins which included a bunch of friendly but chatting. (We waited for like 30 mins, though)

Got our letter today! Interview is schedule exactly a month from now. May 12th.

We are excited but a bit nervous. Because of the pandemic we haven't really gone out at all in the last year. He was looking for remote work for awhile, but no luck, so decided to finish his degree online while we wait. We haven't had a chance to open a joint bank account at my banks because he didn't have his green card or California ID (since we would have to go in person to DMV for that). So we are a bit handicapped by that. We filed our taxes jointly though, and I have him as an authorized user on my CC. Hopefully it will go alright.

Heres to wishing all our fellow Californians get something soon!

Update: got the interview notice today. It was scheduled for April 19. New York office. Will let you know how it goes

Question: did you guys take your marriage certificate to the interview or did you issue a certified copy of it? The notice mentions a certified copy but I want to hear about other people’s experience given that issuing a certified copy could take up to 6 weeks. Thanks!

dandeexjvy reacted to portorusa in CR1/IR1 -> AOS > I-485 interview
My husband had his I-485 interview yesterday and was approved on the spot!😃
Background: We abandoned CR1 consular processing - at the last stage, i.e. post-interview abroad. My husband was visiting me on VWP when corona arrived and we decided to switch to AOS and filed in April.
The I-485  interview lasted about 30 min. and went smoothly. The officer (a woman) was very knowledgeable, experienced and extremely nice.
Apart from regular questions (on when and how we met, the first visit time and duration, husband's biographical info, previous marriages/divorces, children, the date of last entry to the US, and security questions on terrorism/prostitution) there were questions related to I-944 form. Initially with our AOS package we included only proof of medical insurance and proof of absence of credit score. The officer asked  about husband's educational background, work history, military service abroad, knowledge of English and our assets/debts as a couple. "Are you working now? Where?" but she did not ask how much he earns in the US nor did she ask for any proof of his work here. She asked if he had a SSN number (yes) and put it in the computer. She asked if he applied for any public benefits (he did not) and was satisfied with the answer. She never asked for my husband's credit score/credit report.
There was a full understanding that we were adjusting his status from VWP due to pandemic, and that we switched from consular processing. The officer said she did not need I-864, taxes for 2019, children's birth certificates or proof of medical insurance in the US because all that info was available in the digital file. She asked to show her what we brought to prove a bona fide relationship (of which we had plenty). She accepted those bearing our two names (bank account statements, credit cards, auto insurance, utility bills and a motorhome title). She was not interested in our photos together, proof of communication, or proof of many trips to see each other (hotel receipts, border passes, etc).
At the end she said she was approving his I-485, congratulated and explained that as the marriage was more than 2 years old, no removal of conditions was necessary and that 3 years later my husband could apply for US citizenship. She told to expect a green card in the mail within 1-3 weeks.
We did not expect such an outcome and were in shock and bewilderment. In fact, we had been mentally prepared to a postponed approval due to our case circumstances because our file - including some original documents - is still in Paris...We thought the USCIS would have to ask the Embassy in Paris to transfer the case back through NVC and that it would take weeks if not months. Turned out everything was already here in the digital form and was considered by the interviewing officer.
Only back at the parking lot I realized I forgot to ask for I-151 stamp for my husband's passport.
What was most confusing: The officer never asked for I-693 results (still with us and in sealed envelope)! That means all the time and $$ spent on obtaining it here were in vain. Oh well...Maybe she accepted the medical exam results done by my husband in Paris a year ago?

I wish the lucky folks interviewed for AOS shared their experience here.
How does it happen, approval on the spot? The officer just says at the end, “You are approved”? Did you get your passport stamped? What questions were you asked? What bona fide documents did you show? Did the officer keep any of them?
