You are not alone. I feel your frustrations 100%.  Please feel free to vent, sometimes we all need that. It's hard just being patient when we are just in complete limbo with no idea why Lagos (many other embassies) refuses to process K-1s. We are all well aware there is a pandemic, but the virus is not just contagious to k1 applicants.  There is no reason we are almost in June 2021 and March/April 2020 cases are still sitting at NVC. The CDC already put Nigeria in level 1 for covid indicating low covid risk yet we still sit here with talks of priority for K1s YET NO ACTION! There are vaccines, tests, glass windows, and so many precautions that can be taken, yet they continue to make people suffer

Oh I so wish they mean this and start to request cases. They should have a shipment this week so we will see. Thank you for this. Any glimmer of hope is appreciated ❤

Exactly! They have the capacity since they processed almost 2K other visas.  They are choosing not to process K1s. 6 is unacceptable when you do over a thousand others. It's so painful to see oo

I mean it’s so heartbreaking. How can this still be happening? I understand a pandemic but we are a year out at this point and they are processing thousands of other visas so it has nothing to do with the pandemic now. Just today my fiancé was harassed by vigilantes shattering my heart into a million pieces. I can’t be there for him. He can’t come here. It’s all too much. This is the worst. God please hear our cries 😥

I could not have said this better myself. I am happy for everyone who gets to reunite with their loved ones but I also would like to reunite with mine. If my fiancé was here, we would be married already PERIOD. This is evil. They pretend they’re processing K1s but when you look at the numbers for K1 visas processed, it’s abysmal. Nobody deserves this. I cry every single day. My fiancé cries too probably not as much but this is terrible. I don’t know why they have so much power. At this point, it’s not about the pandemic because they clearly have the capacity to process 100s to 1000s of visas. Man I’m so angry and frustrated

Thanks for the insight. But how does that explain the number of visas for spouses that were issued compared to the number fiancé ‘s? How do they get to decide that a fiancé is less important? If my fiancé was here we would be married. And while I’m happy to go marry my fiancé in Nigeria what’s the purpose of going to the back of the line and paying all that money to start all over? It’s absolutely unfair and absolutely ridiculous. 6 compared to hundreds. There’s no excuse for that

People who cases were at Lagos consulate prior to the shutdown in March 2020 have interviews for April and May. Those at NVC have been there since March 2020 no K1 cases have shipped to Lagos since then unless it was a lawsuit or expedite.

Hi you are right, however although K-1 is an "nonimmigrant visa" it is processed at many consulates as immigrant and if you look under the immigrant section in the Nigeria website it states:

For Immigrant Visa Applicants: The Immigrant Visa Unit is interviewing immigrant visa applicants in all visa categories.  While the appointment availability remains restricted by public health conditions, the Immigrant Visa Unit is currently scheduling visa appointments while prioritizing the following:
Adoptions: appointments for adopted children of U.S. Citizens. Spouses and children of U.S. citizens. Applicants petitioned by U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents (LPR), to include fiancées of U.S. citizens, whose immigrant visa interviews were scheduled between March 22, 2020 and June 30, 2020, and subsequently canceled due to the closure of routine visa services on March 22, 2020.  All affected applicants should have been contacted with a new interview date. So they actually have resumed k-1 interviews but are doing all those who's appointments were cancelled first looks like

I agree with you on there needs to be more focus put on embassies and figuring out how they will get through the backlogs or coming up with other options. It's easy for people that aren't separated from their loved ones to say "oh be patient blah blah". I know Covid is real and I'm not saying any worker should put their life in danger but there has to be a safe way for visas to be processed.

Same! Especially with Still Zero information or updates of what their plans is for K-1s. I was really hoping the change of Administration would make some kind of differnce in the complete lack of information,  but doesn't seem too promise as each day goes by and the focus is just on illegal immigration.

Hey everyone! We all know that K1 visa processing has not yet resumed in Lagos as other visas have. @PatLuvO suggested we make our concerns known to the new US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on Twitter.

Let's get together to make our voices heard by tweeting @SecBlinken about this issue.

COVID caused the initial closures but the Trump administration failed to handle the pandemic in general, and more specifically for this thread, they used it as an excuse to keep out more immigrants by refusing to process K-1 visas even while processing thousands of tourists at many embassies and consulates. Even when things were back to normal in many countries.  That's a policy decision, nothing to do with COVID.

Yes the Nigerian embassy is definitely not easy due to all the scams as mentioned.  But also not hopeless for K-1s. Before the embassies shut down in March this year for Covid, The Lagos embassy issued a total of 221 K-1 visas for the 5 months prior. So for those seeking that route don't get discouraged. As long as you don't have red flags and show evidence of your true relationship, God will let you prosper

You're doing others a disservice by stating that Nigeria will deny a K-1 visa. There are many who have received visas, one was approved in Sept and entered the US in December. If you use the tools that are available here on VJ*, you would be able to ascertain if your statement is true. Yes, some get denied but that happens at every embassy.

*There is a interesting tool to use for sorting timeline data based on different data points and it's found here on VJ.

I agree and am definitely not looking down on them as I understand they are in the frontline as well. I guess my point is they just stopped all K-1s completely but not all visas. They are still issuing  B1/B2's along with many other NIVs but not one K-1 and not just Nigeria, many of the embassies just stopped K-1 as to why the Milligan v Pompeo lawsuit. I agree they should 100% take precautions. Limiting interviews/people inside, checking temps, mandatory mask to enter, and fortunately many consulates officers are already behind glass windows. I just found it hard to see how in 9 months, not One K-1 candidate in Nigeria could get an interview especially in countries with low infection rates and no restrictions. But you are right, we do have to all keep remaining strong through all of this.
