    CBP says --

Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR) of the U.S. must present a Permanent Resident Card ("Green Card", Form I-551), a Reentry Permit (if gone for more than 1 year), or a Returning Resident Visa (if gone for 2 years or more) to reenter the United States.

United States (U.S.) LPRs do not need a passport to enter the U.S. as per 8 CFR 211.1(a), however, they may need a passport to enter another country. Please contact the embassy of the foreign country you will be traveling to for their requirements.

While CBP does not require the passport as noted above, the airlines may have their own requirements, please check with your airlines prior to travel. Also, travel documents for LPRs do not need to be valid for any certain amount of time. Your LPR card only needs to be valid on the day that you are entering the US.

https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/1191/kw/traveling outside of the US documents needed

Also, Americans are required to present their unexpired US passport when returning from international air travel.  There are some exceptions:
Traveler may present a NEXUS card, but only at designated NEXUS locations Military personnel on active duty may be boarded without a passport if in possession of official travel orders and military ID Merchant mariners may be boarded without a passport if in possession of US Merchant Mariner Card indicating US citizenship Note that entry requirements are different for land or sea travel.

Thank you. This is weird that you weren't able to do the ROM and the renewal the same day. But everything else just like I said it would be. So I am glad you didn't over think it to much

Hi, all. I want to give an update for I finally went to the consulate office in Houston. This is for the information of those from Texas,  Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Oklahoma (states covered by the Philippine Consulate General in Houston).

"...showing the number of marriages contracted by the parties and issued by the Office of the Vital Records or any other appropriate office of the State where the marriage took place. If the number of contracted marriages does not show, one certified copy and two regular copies of the marriage license showing the number of marriage must be additionally submitted." (I just gave copies of my Marriage Certificate. No additional question asked)

"Also, the Affidavit of Delayed Registration of Marriage needs to be notarized. Can I have it notarized by any public notary in Houston or does the consular office/Philippine embassy requires a notary public authorized by it? Or, is it possible to have the affidavit notarized at the consular office?" (The Report of Marriage and Affidavit can be notarized by any notary public. If it's a Special Power of Attorney, they require that it be notarized by a notary public auhtorized by the consular office.)

Last, can I file the ROM and apply for a renewal of my unexpired passport (I want a new passport under my married name) on the same day? No, it can not be done on the same day. Only after  I have received whatever it is I am supposed to receive three days after filing the ROM can I file for the renewal of passport under married name.

Thank you all for your assistance.

    Thanks for the update.

That is interesting that you can't complete the passport renewal the same day as ROM.    My wife did both the same day through the LA consulate.

At least I know why the consulates added "marriage info from the office of vital records"  .. they saw it on a marriage certificate from one state so automatically figured it was available from ALL states ...  which all goes to prove the AssUme theory regarding the consulate

    @Hope2020,

Above are two stories of the same problem but different outcomes. So it can go either way. Your friend certainly did not make things easier for himself. What I do notice in the above stories is @Tybeau2 wife took responsibility and owned up to the lie. Now, it may not have been the reason she got approved, but I am sure the CO appreciated her honesty during the interview. The situation @queenofsheba71 is going through is tragic. And it seems her husband took the opposite approach and tried to keep it hidden. Now they are in a tough position.

Again, their actions may not have been the exact reasons for their outcomes, but it does give you food for thought.

We just went through the exact same scenario where my wife had stated she was married when applying for a tourist visa but in fact was not...again, taking bad advice from a service in her home country that told her it would help her get approved.   She was denied the visa at the time.  When we applied for the CR1 visa we assumed she would be denied.  We admitted to the misrepresentation on the DS 260 form...I would not allow another lie.  Much to our surprise she was approved at her interview and we did not have to continue with the waiver process.
Our attorney believes it was because the tourist visa was denied because she could not prove sufficient ties back to her country, and as such made the misrepresentation irrelevant and not applicable to the CR1 visa.

    Hi Mrs Virgo,

Everything went well leaving US they didn't check or asked any docs just the usual tickets and passport. But going back to the US you just have to show your Marriage Contract if they asked, pero I don't remember na hinanap yun. I believe GC lang hinanap and passport and good to go. 😁 Pati sa Chicago O'Hare Airport Tix, Passport and GC lang. Bring your MC na lang just in case. 😉

i was wondering if i have to still include our i485, i130, i1864, i765, and i131 copies that we sumbitted including the evidences and the entire packet? Cause I have to print all of these forms again and it would make the package very very thick.

    Huh?
I guess it confers the ability to apply under the 3 year rule instead of 5 year rule once you are already a green card holder...but it does not grant somebody any benefits just by being married.

Wrong,  marriage doesn't give someone the right to apply for citizenship.   Being a permanent resident for the prescribed time does.

I did not have any of my documents notarized before I went to the consular outreach. They made us (me and my hubby) sign the documents in front of the personnel.

I was just at the event for ROM but the personnel suggested I do my passport renewal too...  Para isang bagsakan na lang

I married in Pensacola, Florida in July 2019. Marriage license has the section at the bottom for the number of marriage 'for use by Vital Statistics'. Marriage certificate does not have this information. I have attached an image below for reference.

I did my ROM and passport renewal on the same day to reflect my new last name in an outreach program and they asked for the marriage license and marriage certificate. I got my old and new passport back just a little over 4 weeks after application.

    Hope this helps!

Ok you are over thinking this alittle bit but the certified copies of the marriage license  are fine to send. Not to mention you need to make sure that you send the copies as well. So just to be safe send the marriage license with the 4 regular copies. The delayed registration is fine to get notarized by a regular public notary not just the embassy. You can do the ROM and the passport the same day at a Consulate or the Embassy.

They added this "show number of marriages contracted to the requirements a year or two ago", not sure what they are thinking on that, most states do not offer that kind of information .. heck I don't know of any place that  would be able to provide that info .. after all this isn't the Philippines so there isn't a PSA

You can have the Affidavit for Delayed Registration notarized at the consulate (don't sign anything until there in front of the consulate personal)     We completed ROM and renewed my wife's passport during an outreach event and they notarized all the documents there  (so yes you can do both during the same visit, just make sure to schedule ROM an hour or two before passport renewal).

You should have someone move this to the Philippine forum. They would have all your answers. @Hank_ @payxibka
