You heard of the stories where people have been told that they wouldn't be eligible for a SSN or only a SSN where they're not allowed to work? Do you really trust them? Go there when they open again and return the second one. You already used the first one for everything so stick with it.

You’re right. The person on the phone didn’t seem to know what she was talking about, so I wasn’t too convinced by her reasoning. Our lawyer also said we should ask to speak to a supervisor, that I can’t keep both and they need to decide what one I use. It makes sense for me to use the first one.

This whole process is just battle after battle!

  2. So I called my local SS office. The person on the phone said that I should use the most recent one (even though I filed taxes, applied for my job and health insurance with the old number). She also told me it’s showing up as cross referenced on the system. She said it shouldn’t be an issue to use the most recent one seeing as they’re cross referenced. So I don’t know what to do! She didn’t say I had to send either of them back either. Looks like we’re all getting different guidance!

    Congrats!

FYI same thing happened to me with the ssn. You need to send it back to your local social security office with a letter explaining why And promise not to use that number and include photocopy of your combo card... they will in turn mail you a check list you agree too and sign and send back...

    :)))

Oh wonderful! Thanks so much for the info. I was going to give them a call nevertheless to confirm what to do but this confirms I definitely should!

No worries, “Delivery Attempted - No Access to Delivery Location” is USPS-lingo for "We didn't make it". In my case it was "No secure location" but I know for a fact they weren't even here.

    Congrats!

Now the status is showing as delivered but I didn’t receive it in our mailbox. The saga is never ending! Even USPS doesn’t know where it’s gone 😅

  5. My card was due to be delivered yesterday, we checked informed delivery and it said

“Delivery Attempted - No Access to Delivery Location”

Do you know if signature is required for delivery? We live in an apartment building and the mailbox is separated away from building access!

We've scheduled for a redelivery tomorrow, and I stuck notes on our mailbox to call me if I need to sign! Fingers crossed!

Soooo frustrating. I’m a January filer and my level of frustration is high. I can only imagine how you’re feeling. I wish there was more transparency to the process. Like, how are some Feb filers ‘ready to schedule interview’ and Nov-Jan filers aren’t? Makes no sense to me, and seems highly unfair. I’m so sorry to learn that you’re still waiting. You can submit a request to USCIS to find out what’s going on.

For your I-765 it’s processed by your local USCIS office so that’s why there’s such a discrepancy in timelines. Some people who filed in November might ready have their green cards. I’m in SF so It could take well over a year for me to even get my interview. It’s nuts. However for EAD and AP for people that came over on the K1 they’re all processed in the Missouri office so it’s easier to predict when they’ll come through. I just wish mine would come through this month like other November filers!

OMG congrats! Atleast I know California isn’t stopping the processes despite the high covid cases.. Hoping San Diego picks up the pace 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Still no update

Aren’t all EAD and APs for those that came over on a K1 visa processed in the National Benefits centre in Missouri? Only the I-485 is processed in the local offices? I’m in SF and that’s my understanding!

  8. Hey, November filer here. Did anyone notice on the USCIS processing times site for the I-131 in the NBC office, the time for processing of applications “based on pending i-485 adjustment application” is no longer showing and it only gives times for “All other applicants for advance parole” at 8-10 months? Maybe it was always like this and I just missed it. It shows both options for the I-765?

I’m still waiting on my AP and EAD. Biometrics were in December.

Hoping they come in the next month or so. I have to fly home in August for our Irish wedding so I’m a bit stressed for it to come with all these office closures happening!

A K-1 holder is a 'legal alien allowed to work' for the SSA's purposes, because you are technically allowed to apply for employment authorization in the 90 days. However, since it actually takes longer than 90 days to process an employment authorization these days, in practice you can't work on the K-1.

You get a work authorization you can actually use in the adjustment of status process, when you can apply for employment authorization for free, and if you get your green card before EAD, that works too.

Thank you. This was the confusion that occurred. It was actually my lawyers assistant that gave me this information. It is clear now!

  10. Hi! Thanks for the response. I think you are right. I do however disagree that we need to apply for approval, as we would apply for is “evidence of work authorization “. We are authorized to work As per the SS website and the USCIS website itself, just DHS needs to issue us a card to confirm this.

Overall it’s not worth the effort as it could take a while for them to issue the card And at that stage the 90 days are almost up.

  11. Hi everyone.

I recently arrived into the US on a K1 visa and married my fiancé. We are in the process of applying for adjustment of status.

I asked my lawyer about applying for my SSN and they made a discovery that K1 visa holders are one class of visa holders that are automatically entitled to work without EAD authorization or DHS authorization, according to the social security website itself. Please see following links: https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211420#g

    https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211530

This means my social security card should not have “ valid for work only with DHS authorization” written on it.

Every time I’ve googled this, every other source seems to say that DHS and EAD authorization is required prior to work. Even visa journey itself links ( https://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn/ )to one of these above website and states this, even though the website itself states the opposite. Has anyone else encountered this?

My lawyer believes that I am entitled to work as soon as I get my SSN. And based off the information given on the SS website I would be inclined to agree!

  12. Hi everyone. Out of interest I wonder has anyone seen the following information on the SSO website  https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211420 It states that individuals on the K1 visa do not need an EAD or DHS approval to begin working. It is one of the visa categories in which you are automatically authorized to work. My lawyer just discovered this yesterday after I asked about applying for my SSN in person in the office instead of on the adjustment of status forms. I’m still skeptical as I think it means you can work only for the 90 days. My 90 days will be up in January ( we already got married so are

filing for adjustment) and doesn’t cover the period when yours waiting in limbo.
