Last update, from FB groups, it seems that people that had their appts cancelled earlier this year (March-April 2020) they are getting phone calls rescheduling their appts, petitioned by US citizens, if you had an appt cancelled earlier this year due to virus, please keep an eye on your phone and/or email, 😉

Hi! I've read these too and I'm hoping these claims are legit.  We DQ'd in August 2019 and are soooo tired of waiting!

  2. Juarez Consulate (MX) - A few FB groups members whose March 2020 interview dates were cancelled (Consulate closed for regular visa appts in March 2020) are claiming they received notifications of reschedule (they didn't expedite) for January 2021!!!  I'm hoping this is legit... we DQ'd in August 2019 so that would make our interview date (fingers crossed) July 2021 :)  What a mess this has all been - that means my husband has to bring down updated 824 and 2020 taxes.  We may also need a sponsor now (we didn't when we DQ'd).  The fact that the average wait time for an interview before Covid was 12 months is just unacceptable.  There are so many ways to make this process more efficient FFS - whew happy Saturday everyone!

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying about those in the US.

But yeah no end in sight, wish they'd come up with a new plan something like starting immigrant visa interviews in other consulates in Mexico 😪

I was just dreaming about undocumented persons currently living in the US being able to stay in the US for their Visa interview once their 601a is approved and NVC case closed :)

Opening up other Mexican US consulates for visa interviews would also be wonderful

  4. I see Chihuahua State, which houses the US Mexican Consulate in Juarez, is back to being in a "red" (highest Covid alert) state... is there no end in sight??  How depressing.  I never thought when we started this process that 7 years later we'd still be trying to get my husband's visa.  Why can't those waiting in the US for visa appointments just report to an immigration agency for an interview with an agent and if denied, immediately deport, like those adjusting status, until a Covid vaccine is widely available?  Yea right, that would make too much sense.

what is the covid situation there? Cases down? Is country reopen?

i feel like they are not reopening Africa, Middle East, Asia countries. I’m following Pakistan, where cases are down & the whole country reopened Monday. Yet no sign of embassy

Not opening Mexico either.. so tired of waiting... going on over a year now

True. It is totally a qualifying life event.

Still, you @Clarebear101 may have to explain that (like we did in our case) to the insurance company because they seem super reluctant to any change before November. They finally accepted to have me on my husband's contract (starting August 1rst).

Yes, I'm sorry I must have misread - I thought the poster was attempting to obtain health insurance before the interview/being issued a visa. My mistake! A change in immigration status is listed for special enrollment period :)

Yeah, they usually don't fill out the entire form. Only the important fields. I would definitely check with a lawyer about the disposition type.

Did they assign him an Alien Number (A #) in the CBP FOIA?

Regarding an Alien number - it just says "A" and not followed by anything else.  The "Event No." and "File No." are both redacted.  Super not helpful lol Maybe if he wasn't even assigned an Alien Number back then that is a good thing.

A Judge struck down Trumps public charge law in 2 rulings. They said you cant ask immigrants those questions during a pandemic. They also said you cant be required to have healthcare. It applies nationwide.

I was planning on getting some kind of health coverage before the interview for my wife and sons but Now I'm wondering if it's ok to wait until they get here. If I do need to get something for them before the interview any suggestions?

FYI Open enrollment starts in November - you would have to wait until then to obtain health insurance.

I would need to see if he qualifies for it.

Question. In case we try an expedite and he gets denied it will affect the regular case ?

No, it would not effect your case.  You can request an expedite as many times as you want. It is free and through email.  You may have to email both the NVC and the consulate unless you know where your case is currently at.  Beneficiaries who are currently in Mexico seem to have an advantage with expedites, at least that is what I have seen on my facebook groups.

I was talking to a NVC agent a few weeks ago (yearly call to keep our case open) and she basically urged us to try to expedite as she didn't expect the consulate in Juarez to open for regular interviews until sometime next year; Covid numbers in Juarez (and Mexico in general) are out of control.

Sadly, we have no reason for an expedite :( Our case closed in August of 2019.... we were expecting the interview this month.

I don't know the answer to your question.

However, I recommend submitting the results of your OBIM FOIA with our CBP FOIA request. Specifically, you should include the Encounter ID and FIN ID shown on the OBIM FOIA results. From there, CBP should be able to look you up and give you a "Record of Deportable/Inadmissable Alien" document, which will state a disposition of "Voluntary Return" or "Expedited Removal".

So... I requested my husband's CBP record and got a response in 1 week (totally shocked)... bad news is it is pretty much blank expect for his personal details (name DOB, location/time/date of apprehension). The disposition column just says "OTHER"... what in the world does that mean?

... Guess we will just hope for the best.

Did you not submit one to the NVC along with your other documents (before you got documentarily qualified)?

We downloaded ours online from the IRS and submitted those (and will print them out to take to the interview when the time comes).

Some have to bring their most current tax returns; like Mexico for instance where interview wait times are a year+. Tax returns submitted to NVC to close a case are no longer valid at these interviews.

Got this msg earlier from the Rio consulate in Brazil - doesn't seem like they're scheduling ANY interviews right now...

Health Alert – U.S. Embassy Brasilia, Brazil (June 19, 2020)

    Location: Brazil

    Event: Health Alert

The U.S. Embassy and Consulates General in Brazil continue to offer only emergency services for U.S. citizens in Brazil. Routine services not related to safety, such as passport renewals without imminent travel and notarial services, are not considered emergencies and will not be scheduled at this time. We will resume operations in phases as global conditions evolve. Monitor our social media and website for information about when services resume.

Mexican consulate is also in dire straights... seems their covid cases are just going up and up in Juarez .. I hope they open before the end of the year :( :(
