I only sent tax records. I'm going to get a salary letter and bank info. I worked abroad for the filing year so the amount of income I needed to report was low bc it was foreign income. Perhaps I should write a letter explaining such.

I was also well qualified with income, but I am retired, and was concerned they would not believe the income stream was reliable.  So I did include another financial doc showing some hefty assets and we got scheduled for interview.

By the way, the "Tax transcript" docs should show the FEIE, so they ought to be able to interpret that.   Sure, your first 110k is tax exempt so your tax liability would be low, but they should still see the income.

Everything you need to bring is listed on the letter you get, its mostly the same info that you already sent them, you do need to take the originals of any documents you submitted ( birth cert, marriage cert etc )

yeah, good times...........it's basically evidence of joint assets and liabilities.   So like bank accounts.  Of course to get someone on an account, you need the SSN and probably a state ID.  We have our letters from SS stating they could not issue the SSN because Homeland Security is unable to verify the immigrant document we submitted.    LOL !!   Isn't THAT the classic  government SNAF U.    We're bringing that same letter from two different SSN office dated a month apart.

OK, so we got the letter..............Oct 1 is our date.   So 103 days from application to interview.   Seems quick to me.   Zero movement on the employment and travel authorizations.   Glad they were included in the GC price.   I'd be ticked if I paid for those.

Will do.   Since we planned on a December interview, we booked tickets and leave Florida tomorrow for a couple of months.   We forwarded mail starting tomorrow, but nothing showed up in the box today.  So we're going to have to wait for the letter, however, not sure when it will show up at the forwarded address.   Looks like this trip will be cut short since we really dread rescheduling.......never know what will happen if we do. This is such a fun process.

Can you tell us when your interview date is?

  5. I knew the Jacksonville office was fast, the stats page shows 116 days from application to interview.   So we figured November/December.   Nope !!    Filed on July 20, and just got the updated status.  Have not rec'd the interview date in the mail yet, but the biometrics appt was 17 days after we got the notice.   So I'm guessing interview will be around Oct 14.......86 days.

We'll be getting Green Card before the Travel / Work authorizations.

by the way.......if you're wondering about the speed of your local office, check out this link..............

  6. Good information here............obviously, even the manual verification sometimes does not cut it.   We'll be making our third trip to the SS office next week.

    July 4:  arrived US.

July 15: married, no name change.

July 18:  Applied SS, informed of mismatch and SS opened SAVE inquiry.  Told us the card would arrive in a few weeks.   No marriage info reqd on the SS-5, so not provided.

July 19:  SAVE inquiry returned to SSA.

July 24:   AOS documentation submitted....this would be the first indication to any federal agency that we were married.

Aug 13:   SS called and informed us that they were unable to clear the mismatch and that we need to wait for the green card to reapply for SSC.   The girl was completely guessing that it was maybe because we were married before applying, but that cannot be right because the agency was unaware of the marriage when SAVE responded to SSA.

Aug 16:   Visited a different SSO and reapplied for SSN.  informed there was an Immigration mismatch between the i-94 (Single due to K1 visa) and now since we are married. (makes sense for this application, but not our initial application.)   Informed us that now the EAP is required prior to issuing SSN.   Not sure if correct, but EAP sounds more correct than needing a GC to reapply.   No manual verification opened.  Rep provided a letter stating he could not issue a card ...."immigration status mismatch K1=Fiance of US citizen yet applicant is married".

So yeah, I guess we head over next week again and ask for a new manual verification.   How do we get phone numbers for the local SS office so we can call for an update once the SAVE case is returned to SS??

UPDATE:   Cha-ching!   Phone number is on the letter I rec'd from the local rep.

Hello everyone! Thanks for all your reply. I went to another SSA office, unfortunately, according to the staff there again, it is being "denied". I booked an appointment USICS this Friday and we'll see what's gonna happen. It just sucks because I now only have 33 days to have this fixed.

i cannot find a way to book an appointment with the local office.   Can you please enlighten me?

    Our situation:

Oops. Sorry. My mistake..   there was a thread on SSN that explained how to get a quick response ... even had the direct number to call .. I’ll see if I can find it

Many thanks Lil Bear.   I'm now thinking to do the InfoPass appt with USCIS, since this SS officer provided me with a letter showing the issue.   Sheesh, good I'm retired...hate to try to juggle these actions while still working.  Crazy for those folks.

  9. Throwing this info out there to see if anyone might have a solution.

    July 4:  arrived US.

It took about a month to figure out what our problem was.... it was the nitwit at our SS office who forgot to send our verification for the card. Now it's going to take another three to four weeks to get it!

Well, I'm still looking into the nonsense, and came across this document.   Well, we did say YES on form I-765, and wonder if that is causing some kind of conflict.   Of course, I don't know if it's applicable for a K-1 visa holder since it's saying you cannot apply until you have the work permit and I know that's not valid for K1 people.

Best wishes. Please let the thread know how it goes.

Do you happen to know if checking the following boxes on I-765 would affect this?   I'm thinking maybe since we checked "Yes", there is some sort of conflict with going direct to the SS office.

I'd look at another office, or at least a different individual. This is assuming you still have at least 14 days of legal status on your I-94 left (if that period has passed, there's nothing they can do).

I'd just refer to here: https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211530

Nothing in there refers to one's marital status. The only thing that matters is their immigration status, which is still K-1.

OK, we're off to a new office in the morning.   We have a good 6 weeks left on the I-94.

Pretty sure I got your reps relative.   I should have known it was going to be a problem based on the confused looks we got, and the 30 minutes standing at the window while they processed the application, and the reps request for her supervisor to review it.   It's only an issue for the insurance.........we're covered but they said they need the SSN by Sept 7.   I'm thinking more like Jan 7 if our nitwit has their way.

  14. 5 hours ago, geowrian said:

They're outright wrong even according to their own POMS...but it's far from the first time they've made that mistake.

So the question in my mind..........do we wait to see if the card comes in the mail, or do I head to another office to inquire or reapply?    I felt the information she was giving me was incorrect but I did not do any homework on the issue as the call caught me completely off guard.   I was figuring on seeing some mail from them this week.

Can you point to the POM where this is addressed?    (i could not see it in a cursory overview.........looking at the Handbook now..  https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.02/handbook-toc02.html

  15. Applied for SS on July 18, so 26 days now.   Got a call from them.........."sorry, your application is dead because you got married before you applied for the SS card."   She had no name change, and I could swear I have read here that it should not make a difference if you apply before or after marriage if no name change.   The rep told us that it's impossible to do anything at this point and we have to wait until after she receives the green card.

  16. The good news:   We rec'd Biometrics notice from Jacksonville instead of Orlando ,which means we went from one of the slowest offices to one of the fastest.   Biometrics was completed and it was an absolute breeze.

The bad news:   SS called today.   "We cannot process your card because you got married before you came to the office.  So now you have to wait until you get the green card."    She did not change her name, so not sure what the problem could be, but glad for the change to Jacksonville.

I live in Kendall and looking to send mine so will probably be located there 😢

Well, it may actually work out in your favor.  Orlando looks like it's going to be a long haul for us.  Some of the smaller offices, like the one in Greer SC that someone posted about, will process the GC in 4-5 months according to the VJ stats.   I think that one record for Kendall is an error.

    Hello VJ's,

Good day, i just want to ask if upon filing the I-485 should i includ evidence like photos of our wedding ceremony, joint acoount bank statement of I and my spouse or any other evidence and also about the Advance Parole should i really need to file it together with I-485 and EAD? i have no plans of going out in the US so might as well not to file an AP?  thank you

Agree with Lana&Ivy............you don't need relationship evidence at this point.   You will need it later so start collecting that info.   With regard to the bank account, you may want to include that on your affidavit of support if your income doesn't meet the guidelines.  My income met the requirements, but I'm retired and included a bank statement just to provide some cushion.

I would apply for the EAD and AP even if you don't plan to use them.   We are not planning to use the EAD, but what the heck............it's free.   Both forms are simple.   Obviously your call, but it's free to include them with the 485, and most people love free stuff.

Hi everyone, I'm jumping on here. She arrived June 19, married June 25, filed AOS July 8, got NOA July 13. Just got the bio letter on July 24, scheduled for August 8.

I thought our office would be Charlotte, NC since we live in NC, but our office is actually Greer, SC (which is much closer).

Are we all in the same boat for LPR, AP, and EAD, or are some countries faster than others for this stage?

Daim........seems you are blazing through the steps.   Based on the stats, Greer is an outstanding office.   I wouldn't worry about AP/EAD a whole lot, as you'll likely have GC in 4 months.   (granted this is based on only 4 records, so results may not be 100 percent, but seems pretty good)    Our office is Orlando......we're hoping for a Jan/Feb AP and GC after a year.

I didn’t include anything I mean it’s with my other paperwork from Poe I just hope they don’t rfe my husband wants to work soon

Same here as GeeRaf.........I've always provided passport as evidence of US citizenship.   I never use the birth cert.   If you'd happened to use your passport, you'll be fine.  Assume you're sponsor and needed it for the financial affidavit.  If you included nothing, you may get lucky, but based on how many people are getting zinged for birth cert, even when included.......I'd figure on the RFE.

  21. 1 hour ago, Eric&Mirella said:

Did you send the birth certificate with it's translation for the EAD and the AP too? I read somewhere that birth certificates and translations are now necessary for those forms too.  I only sent one copy with it's  translation in  the AOS package and now I'm a little nervous  ☹️

you should be fine.   The current instructions for EAD and AP do not require the BC.    We sent the BC with the 485......of course, 485 requires BC.   You may still get the RFE, but it won't be because you didn't follow the instructions......it will be due to some issue on their side like so many others have experienced, and seemed to have zero control over.

The takeaway seems to be, no matter how diligent you were preparing the forms, you may still get an unexplained RFE.   Feel like I'm in Vegas.
