Called the #877 and they stated mine is at New Orleans Application Center which went to Phase 2 on August 24... Not really sure whether phase's matter, since the status on the webpage says my application will be reviewed when it hits Phase 3, but the guy on the phone said that that isn't the case and he's seen applications get processed from all different offices with all different phases.

Hoping I'm just a few weeks away from the center getting to my application.

I just now received the APPROVED email.
Should arrive by 09/05/2020, which will make just over 6 weeks..

I did make a call last Tuesday, with my concerns. Maybe that sped thing up.
You should call. Hold time was no more than 1 minute.

So pleased to have received my passport!  It came from the Boston office.  I got the email it had been approved and also one that it was printing on Aug 13th, and it was in my mail box today.

UPDATE: I also received my Naturalization Certificate back in the mail today, exactly ten business days after I received my passport. So glad that it was not lost in transit.

the guy at usps just asked me to write two checks and he dictated what to write. My check to the State has already been cashed on July 28th but the acceptance fee check to usps still remains pending for some reason. My application does show that it is in Process. One would think that USPS would want to cash my check as soon as possible given they are being starved for cash these days.

    Hello everyone

I created this topic to post some information about applying for US passport .

I became a US citizen on June 12, 2020 and I applied for US passport on June 15 2020. I was told that the process will take so long until I get my passports but I want to encourage those who became US citizens to apply to get their passports. I will be receiving my passport this Friday 08/14/20 . It took 8 weeks. Good luck to everyone .

Just got out of federal building in Los Angeles with the Naturalization Certificate. The whole process went smoothly and quick! The whole process took about 2 hours in total and the immigration officer was super nice. After checking in, I waited about 5 minutes for the interview. The interview lasted about 20 minutes and then she told me I was approved and the Oath will be held shortly after. I waited another 1.5 hour for the oath and the oath itself only took a few minutes.

One tip is that you might want to go to the federal builder a little early even though it says you cannot go 15 minutes earlier than the appointment time. It’s because the line to get into federal building is long. It took me at least 25 minutes to get into the building. So I would say you should be in downtown at least 30 - 40 minutes earlier.

Also, thanks Matt for your suggestion! I did park in the parking lot you mentioned. It is very convenient and inexpensive!

That’s it - I couldn’t believe the long journey finally came to an end! Good luck everyone!

Wifey's Experience at SFO (Hopefully its useful to someone)
Interview was scheduled at 630 Sansome Street, SFO at 8AM. We reached at 7:45AM and i dropped off my wife at the entrance of that building. Parked the car opposite to the building in the open parking Lot (635, Sansome Street, SFO) and waited there. They charge $15 per hour and maxes out at $35.

Per Wifey, The number of people allowed in waiting area is max of 3 people and she was called in for Interview by officer at 8:15AM. Interview was only 15 mins long where the officer asked her questions from civic test, some clarification questions about travel and requested to see my kid's Birth Certificate to confirm my name.

Here is the surprise.  The officer indicated that she passed the interview and Oath will be at 11AM and asked us to drive around for the next 2 hours and come back for Oath. W just stayed in the car in the parking lot. Oath was held at 444 Washington Street, SFO (2 mins walking distance from Sansome Building where her interview took place). Oath finished in 15 mins and she walked out at 11:25AM with her Certificate.

Apparently they are scheduling Oath either with in 1-2 weeks from the interview or on the same day of interview. I wished they had indicated this before about Oath on same day so that we could have planned a little with a 4yr old in the back seat of the car.

I took my oath at a City hall 2 years back  when i applied for N400 and looks like COVID is accelerating Oath on same day for SFO applicants.

I'm glad everything worked out and thank you for the tip with the autofill the passport application. I can't remember how I did mine but I'll definitely keep this in mind for future applications. I became a citizen in 2017, long before the pandemic 😊

Today, I completed the final step in my visa journey. I received my passport and passport card via separate mailings. Naturalized on July 8, applied for passport July 22, via my local NJ post office, standard processing. So, essentially, within eight business days!

I want to thank this wonderful VJ community for all that it has done for me: right from the time of my AOS  in 2012 down to this moment, when my immigration journey is at its final stop. Love you all and may this community go from strength to strength.

For those of you asking how I got my passport in such record time, my answer is I honestly do not know. I had braced myself for a very long wait time, reading from other timelines. What MAY HAVE helped is that I did not submit an application filled by hand, but one that used the online Form Filler which lets you download the completed application form along with a bar code that practically eliminates manual labor from the processing time. It looks like my passport went straight to printing (the same day my check was cashed). I have been reading that when you hand fill an application, the staff then has to manually enter data into their database and that takes a very long time, due to reduced staff hours. Trust me, automation does have its benefits, so go ahead and use the Form Filler. My passport was shipped from the Little Rock, Arkansas regional office.

To all those of you nearing the end of your journeys too, congratulations and see you on the other side. To those halfway there, more power unto you and godspeed! I remain forever grateful to the relationships this group fosters.

kline19 reacted to Demian_Bones in Updating Social Security Status During COVID
I actually just went through the same process. I naturalized a couple of months ago and since I had opted for a name change I had no choice but to update my SSN as well since our local DMV wouldn't change my driver's license without going through the social security administration first. Like you, I had major reservations about mailing my original naturalization certificate as well as my name change petition (which was its own nightmare itself in terms of acquiring it) to the SSN office. Unlike you I had no choice but to send them in since I really need to update my driver's license. Fortunately, the process was smooth as I received both of my original documents back after like a week and then my updated SSN card about a week after that. I would say that if you're not changing your name then I would just really wait until things get back to normal and go in person. Hope that helps put you at ease.

I had my drive-through oath ceremony this week, the officer walked up to my car and administered the oath! It was a quick and unique process!

Quick question - what is everyone doing to update the social security? I believe the offices are closed and you can only mail-in your naturalization certificate to complete the process.
