I don't think anybody is saying don't try. It's just that it's likely not going to happen...that's just the reality of it. But the odds are 0% if you don't try, and there's no harm in trying so long as you can afford the $160 fee + time.
Just trying to set good expectations...expect a refusal and be glad if it's issued.
To be very clear, I'm glad to hear you tried and were successful. Congrats!

I would just note that there's no way to put together a solid case for a tourist visa. As you noticed, the documents compiled had no impact on the decision, as is almost always the case. No document demonstrates that you will return home, and the invitation letter is explicitly stated on the DOS website not to be a consideration.
Just fill out the DS-160, schedule the interview, and be calm and confident (and obviously honest) in the interview.

Best of luck to the OP.

People are probably right that the odds are slim, but all I heard from people was "never going to happen." I took the risk because I didn't like being apart and$160 is not much to pay in the grand scheme of things. And for me, it worked well. We have spent much more time together than otherwise we would have gotten.

I spent a week putting together a solid case. Work obligations in the country, car, apartment, utilities, and a support letter showing similar details as required for CR1 visa at the NVC level, plus an itinerary and invitation letter from family for a November thanksgiving get together for the first trip.

It took roughly 1 month to get an appointment at the embassy, maybe 6 weeks. There were 2 parts, fingerprints and roughly 2 weeks later, the appointment. One trick I learned is, check every day because sometimes people cancel and newer appointments open up. In our case, no, but in others, I have seen it happen. They spent only a few minutes with her. They never opened the well put together documents, asked her a few questions and said she was approved...

So many people are negative, but I say go for it.

They didn't look in detail at her finances.

At the border, they have never asked her much questions, just stamped and entry, always given 6 months on the I94...

Applying, or not applying, boils down to the individual applicant.

With finances an issue and the i130 approval bringing the CR1 closer, odds of approval are slim(er).

I say try! We got ours no problem from Dominican Republic, they only warned her not to overstay. She's entered us twice with that visa through Florida without any issues. It's only $160 if you don't get it, but it's priceless memories if you do. Better than playing the lottery!

There is no impact on the CR visa application.. applying for a visitors visa won’t jeopardise the immigrant visa .. you just risk losing the $160 visitors visa application fee if it’s denied

I'm sorry to hear about your husband being denied. It's probably best to just wait... Thank you for responding Musicsaves.
Thanks yeah. Too much of a risk I guess. Thanks for responding!

I haven't done it during this process but before we were married, my husband was denied a visitor visa from Romania because he didn't own a home and have sufficient ties to his country 😕

    This is not correct --

Once you receive Case Complete from the NVC, they will schedule your interview about 4-6 weeks out and during that time, you have to do your medical. You cannot do the medical without having the interview letter to present.

You can delay the medical and police certificate for a few weeks (or longer) then your wife has 6 months from medical to enter the US.

They won't schedule the interview until the medical is done - so that is the best step to delay in the process.

However to delay for a year?  I'm not sure it can be stretched out that long.

Once your case is approved at USCIS it is transferred to NVC where it can stay there for a maximum of one year. So you might just leave it at NVC and before the year ends you must contact NVC so the case does not expire and gets processed. That might work for you.

Actually our receipt is dated 1st of August so your application is moving along at a good pace
this process requires a lot of patience  mostly because you do not hear anything
follow the steps in your cover letter when you receive it from NVC / it comes faster if you put a good reliable email ID on applicaiton
the process is listed above under guides / tells you exactly what to do
but mainly you will be billed for the AOS and DS 260 and pay the 2 fees
then fill out (you and spouse) the proper forms
get the required police clearances from spouse's country (or other countries lived in for over a year in last 5 years)
mail these and other dcuments as required with the cover letter to NVC
be sure to put in upper right hond corner the new case on all papers (you send) in upper right hand corner with both names and both DOB's
    do not staple
    do not put in binders
    do not paper clip

I wouldn't change it. Work doesn't always equal to residency. My residency remains in Estonia although I have been in New Zealand because of work for 4 months.

I would not change it, personally. You haven't moved from your permanent address, correct? Just a temporary visit in another state? I don't see why you had to. You don't change your address with USCIS when going on vacation, either. IMHO this is akin to that, even if it's for 3 months. Of course, have someone check your mail while you're away in case USCIS sends you something.

Not really going to make a difference if you have a qualified joint sponsor.  There are no questions about how much you made during the current year.  2018 income will appear on your 2018 tax return filed in 2019.
