  1. Hello!

My wife recently attended a science event and won a small prize for placing in a competition she was part of, and they are requesting that she fill out a W-9 to receive the prize. I'm wondering what we should do. She is currently in the process of AOS (from the K-1 visa), and we have not yet received her EAD - but she does have her SSN.

I have done some reading in prior VisaJourney threads and I see that a W-9 should be okay to fill out, since she can be considered a resident alien for tax purposes (even though she has not yet received her green card) - but I wanted to get a sanity check if at all possible.

This prize is pretty insubstantial (way less than what we spent sending her to this event), so if filling out the W-9 form will jeopardize our AOS filing, I'd rather not take the chance.

    Thanks for your assistance!

    Hi everyone!

My husband just had his biometric appointment this morning!

He said everything went smoothly. Got there about 15 minutes before the appointment, asked for his appointment letter and id. Stamped his appointment letter and gave it back to him for our records. They scanned his fingerprints and off he went. He said it only took about 5-10 minutes!

Same here! Big chances your husband and I were having our fingerprints taken at the same time :D

The staff at the local office is really friendly. Just had one tiny issue with my uber driver suddenly becoming very rude as soon as he realized where he was dropping me off...

Yay! Did you happen to notice if it was updated on any of the tracking websites that was used during the K-1 process? I'm curious if it shows anything at all anywhere or if we are completely reliant on the postman. Thanks!

The USCIS case status online didn't change -- it's been the same since we got the NOA. The same happened back with the K1 petition, we received the approval notice in the mail without any updates on the site or anything. Definitely have to rely on the postman!

So I called them last night and after being on hold for over an hour they basically confirmed that it must have been their mistake and now we just have to send it all back to them..... 😞  So, we're going to do that today... Our plan is to attach a letter explaining what happened and send back everything exactly as they sent it back to us and include another copy of the I-485 just in case with a new signature and everything... My check was also returned so I think I'm just going to send that same one back to them.... Feeling so sad about this.

The setback is disheartening, but at least they returned your check and you won't have to deal with a financial blow as well... I hope everything goes smoothly for you from now on!

Hey guys,  so our petition was refused because they said we submitted an out of date I-485.  I'm so disappointed because this sets us way back now :(  But I'm also confused.  It looks like what we submitted and what I see on the website are the same.... Can someone send me the link to the file they sent?  The one I sent out says "Expires 06/30/2019" and on the bottom left of every page says "Form I-485 12/13/17 N".  Thanks guys 😞

This is awful! I second celie&joseph, give them a call. It seems like an error -- my form has the same numbers as yours, and it is exactly the same on their website right now.

  6. No experience with it, but it seems like a good thing for you.

    What We Do

Petitioners and applicants for certain categories of immigration benefits may appeal a negative decision to the AAO. We conduct administrative review of those appeals to ensure consistency and accuracy in the interpretation of immigration law and policy.

    Appeal Process

Initially, the USCIS office that denied the benefit will review the appeal and determine whether to take favorable action and grant the benefit request. If that office does not take favorable action, it will forward the appeal to the AAO for appellate review.

It sounds like they're going to look over your visa/appeal again.
