I hope you’re right. I just called and he told me that my case is all set and they are just waiting for it to be sent to Beirut.

So I haven't read this anywhere before so I thought I would share.
All interviews in Sweden for K1 visas are only scheduled on Thursdays. Don't know why but called the embassy and that's what they said when I wondered why only 3 dates were available and all only on Thursdays.

Not a stupid question at all, @conarroest, I had the same question earlier as well. Please ask any questions that come up, there’s always someone around willing to give an answer 😉

Not sure if you already know about the CEAC website, but once you've called and received your NVC case number from them, you can check the status with the link below:

    Follow this link https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx
Select "Immigrant" and enter your NVC case number. It will say your status is either "At NVC", In Transit", "Arrived", or "Ready." ("Ready" meaning the embassy has it and you can go ahead and schedule an interview time.)

Also, if you haven't already, you should join the July NVC thread (and maybe the August NVC thread as well) as there is a lot of info on what the next steps are

JennaL reacted to shawarma_frites in Insanity: Processing time for Application for Employment Authorization (I-765) at National Benefits Center is currently 5 to 6 months.
Certain non-immigrant visas are vetted so well that the classification could have an opt-in for immigrant status and be given an EAD (or dare I say even a green card) upon arrival, similar to the CR1 procedures.

Sending certain visa holders for an EAD is superfluous. It costs everyone extra time and money to gather information that USCIS and Homeland Security already have.
And 6 months for an EAD was unheard of a couple years ago.

USCIS couldn't even be bothered to update our K-1 case online beyond the NOA1. The NVC sent us our notification well after the consulate contacted us for the DS-160. They also made typos on critical information. Many consulates no longer handle visa interview fees at the consulate, so we had to pay at a specific courier service with employees who provide a receipt. The employees didn't know American currency or the fee procedure, so they credited my husband as having paid a much lesser visa fee. If he hadn't noticed and drove home, he would have lost money on more fees and another day off of work. Speaking of which, people have to take time off of work to travel to a specific location (with ignorant employees) in order pay a visa fee because the consulate can't be bothered to deal with it? That's ridiculous. What's also ridiculous is that processing times are historically slow despite generous processing fees that are never structured to the local economy. My husband has a master's degree and the DS-160 fee was worth one month of his salary.

Immigration in the United States is such a racket: increasingly more expensive, increasingly slower, and more convoluted. It's time for USCIS reform.

(Search my posts for more info). Tierra, dont waste your time with a lawyer for waiver just yet. I have talked to close to a dozen lawyers and not one (except Julie Goldberg - but her specialty is Yemenis who had approval slips) has reported a lot of waiver approvals. However, visas with waivers ARE being printed. I have personally seen multiple visas with waiver approvals, all from talking to people. Looks like waivers are being granted - but VERY slowly. They granted a waiver for an Iranian K1 because they had a medical condition. Another straight forward no medical issue Iranian case also got a K1 waiver but he was interviewed 2 years ago and was in AP for 22 months. Interestingly, Ive seen a bunch of B1/B2 visas with waivers as well, with very short APs. A whole bunch of Yememis just got visas printed with waivers, but I think that might be from Julies batch.

Here is the deal - the only way you will expedite your waiver is if you or your fiance have a medical condition, or by eventually filing a writ of mandamus. However, wait atleast 1 yr before filing a writ. From what I understand, they are putting every applicant from travel ban countries in AP. So all those poor souls stuck with multi month or multi year AP's past few years, well there's going to be a whole lot more of those, and your fiance is one of them. It is my understanding, is that they are taking all 4 SAOS  (donkey, eagle, mantis and i think one more) and merging it into one and branding it "Extreme Vetting".

How quickly yoru fiance will emerge out of AP? Depends on a bunch of things. If he has a common name, dual purpose (military/civilian) educaiton, military service, forget it. A year minimum. For female applicants with a unique name and a inncoent enough education and limited job experience, boom fast AP.  Hang in there - this is going to be a rough ride. Atleast you dont have kids and spouse stuck in a warzone like this poor guy - https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/mahmood-salem-kills-self-when-family-is-barred-from-us-trip-american_us_5b5cfcbfe4b0de86f497a9b1

There is some hope in an upcoming lawsuit that I hope will atleast shed some light on timelines and processes. If I were you I would follow this lawsuit closely. At the very least, it should give definitive guidance on what is expected for a waiver application to succeed.

Your interview is recent  - there are people who have waited 2yrs plus for AP -- Next few months will bringa lot of clarity so I would not waste money on a lawyer now, especially now that your interview is done.

An interesting observation....   I am looking at the K1 Fiancé Visa Timeline data here on VJ and it looks like the NVC batches mailing to the Consulates  every two weeks.

I can see large number of users who recorded "NVC Left" on June 26, July 10th and July 24th.   There are a few in between, but only 1 or 2 per day.  But on the batch days I see several dozen recorded.

So, if your petition is currently "At NVC", such as myself, I believe we will likely leave the NVC on August 7th.

@Tierra if I remember your story correctly, your fiancé visa was denied due to Iran being a banned country. (My fiancé is from Iran, but currently a Norwegian citizen.) My fiancé has had some contact from an Iranian woman in LA who practices immigration law, I can get you her information if you're interested. I think it would probably be best to look into getting a lawyer for wadding through the travel ban waiver process. Hoping you guys can get something figured out soon, it's so hard not having any details on overcoming a situation like this.

"Honey, you sure you don't want to change?" My husband yelled as he was jumping out of the shower.  "You look gorgeous in that cheongsam!"

    "I am 100% sure!"

My husband was baffled. Why would I wear jeans at a such solemn event? on this very day I became an American?

little did he know,  I wore it to honour my aunt, who was killed by the Chinese communists over a pair of blue jeans.

My dad escaped the Chinese civil war and arrived in Hong Kong, left behind two other  siblings who remained in communist controlled China. Dad worked few odd jobs so that every time we visited our relatives, we would be able to bring necessities, be flour, rice, clothes, radio or even salt and sugar.

I still remember my dad's loud cry when upon returning to China, he learned my aunt had committed suicide, over the very pair of jeans he brought her from Hong Kong.

Only when I grew up, I heard the story from my cousin that auntie Mui lost her life to the heydays of cultural revolution, when every single wrong doing could land you in jail and every little mistake earned you a good beating.  Jeans in all the madness became a gesture of contradicting  supreme leader Mao and a symbol of supporting American Imperialism.

So her very friend and comrade stripped her and did the unthinkable and unspeakable in public.  My aunt couldn't take the humiliation and took her own life the same afternoon.

As years go by, all my families escaped communist China and landed in Hong Kong, Aunt Mui was gone, but she was never forgotten.

And that is why I wore jeans, a indisputable symbol of Americanism at my oath ceremony, and if aunt Mui is above there somewhere watching over me, she knew I did it for her honour.

I have not updated this thread in a while now, but there are some good signs.

    1) I have personally now seen 2 B1/B2, 2 K1, and 2 IR1 visas stamped from banned countries.
    2) There have been a total of 1000 waivers approved : https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/presidential-proclamation-archive/june_26_supreme_court_decision_on_presidential_proclamation9645.html. At current rate, they are approving about 200 waivers a month.
    3) For those of you who got approved prior to the ban but didnt get the visas' printed, there was a court case that is requiring the DOS to issue these visas. There have been dozens of mostly Yemeni folks who got their visas this way.
