I am not more knowledgeable but I am  a September filer and  we received an RFE for the most recent tax year around the same time with you.
We send copy of 2017 W2 and 1040 to USCIS 10 days ago and they said they received it there was no problem with it.
But of course I am still not quite sure what to do when it comes to USCIS

    Hi everyone,

Here is how i got my passport back without making a trip to Montreal.

I had already seen my status changed to issued online. I emailed montreal embassy and they sent me the generic email.

I contacted a messenger company in Montreal (the one i used was called messageries speedo though i am pretty sure there are other courier companies as well).

I emailed them the pickup email as well as a signed authorization letter (not notarized though) to pick up my passport on my behalf from the embassy.

Their messenger went out on tuesday and the embassy gave them my passport. they sent it to me same day through UPS and i received it today in Halifax in the afternoon.

This whole process was less than 2 days and cost me a total of 55 dollars.

Hope this helps some of you

Ignore all the nonsense about which Visa is "superior" because they both have pros and cons.  Understand the differences and pick the one that is "superior" for your situation not based on other members situation.  For me, the superior Visa was the k-1 based on my situation.

No problem!! Happy you got it! Looks like I'll be heading there soon too lol..
Did they say anything to you about the strike? Normally anything past 5 days is unusual. However, cuz the strike they're keeping all the passports. Make sure to check the CEAC website for your updates on when your visa has been issued.

So I took a red eye last night from Vancouver -> Montreal and was able to pick up my passport + visa package!!
After checking in at the door, I was sent upstairs to a window where a lady asked for my ID.
Lady: Ok I'm going to go look for it now
    *finds my stuff*
Me: Have things been crazy because of the Canada Post strike?
    Lady: Oh...you have no idea...

So yes, second confirmation that they are holding our documents until the strike is over and they are very backed up. I'm not sure when the strike will be over, so if you do get the chance to pick it up, definitely do it!

PS HUGE thanks to @MariahK ❤️

If your ceac says issued and you haven't received an email regarding the pick up date (they also state they will ship the passport out once the strike is over) I would honestly think they might have mailed it... because that is weird. Unless they really are just a mess lol.

You need to have the email to be able to pick up your passport, otherwise I don't know if they will give it to you. (Mine only has my full name on it, no other personal information). So I wouldn't make any plans to fly out yet lol!

As a note, if you are renting a uhaul or similar vehicle a lot of rental companies don't let you cross international boarders with their vehicles. Just make sure you are covered that way I think you just have to let them know. I caught a little flak when I had a rental from Detroit and went into Windsor for the day. Coming back CBP was knocking on the door panels and did a pretty exhaustive search of the vehicle. I guess a lot of people rent cars to smuggle stuff back across the boarder. Not being a criminal myself, that never crossed my mind, but it made sense.

Uhauls are not an issue. Rental cars however are.

Had my interview today for k1! I only gave the lady my Privacy Act and there were no issues at all! At this point, I wouldn't worry about getting any other criminal record check and just get the Privacy Act. Mine had no picture, no fingerprints (says they were taken and destroyed), no seal.

I know you don't see too much information available, but I binge watched about 4 seasons of US Boarder Patrol series and got to see all types of people crossing the border ( Mostly from Canada) on all types of visas including K1, and even if not coming on a K1 some people brought a bunch of stuff. The ones that had the truckload of stuff and were trying to get in on a Visiting/ Tourist Visa had issues because it looked like they were moving permanently and not going to return, but you don't have that issue as you have the correct Visa to be bringing a bunch of stuff with you.

You can make a general inventory list covering the big items, you don't have to list every shade of lipstick unless you have nothing better to do with your time. I have never heard of any so called limits on how much you can bring ( But I don't suggest a 53' tractor trailer) from what it sounds like you only have a truck bed full of items, so no big deal. Check the CBP website for a list of any items that must be declared ( Firearms/ ammunition, etc.) and make sure you mention those and have them available for inspection. They understand you are moving your whole life to be with your fiancee, so they are pretty reasonable to let you bring your life with you especially on a K1 visa where you wont be traveling back for about 6 months. Sounds like you will be fine... But those teddy bears may be suspicious.... LOL, just kidding.

The fact that the immigration website still hasn’t cleared this up and it’s been over a month is actually deplorable.

No, you are correct! I got my fingerprints done at my local police station then mailed them to Gambit ID and they sent the request to the RCMP. I then chose to have the RCMP send the check back to Gambit ID then to me (sorry if this confusing lol!). That was for the "visa/border crossing..etc"... I just happened to the in Toronto then went to the Commissionaires and got the Privacy Act check done then it was sent directly to me from the RCMP.

It seems like all different police checks are being accepted, so it's frustrating. I have my interview Wednesday I will only give them the Privacy Act one first and see what they say.
    Including the weekend

Yes I would still get both the certified criminal record check with fingerprints that states for immigrations purposes and the Privacy Act criminal record check. I got my certified criminal record check through Gambit ID and then I went to the Commissionaires in Toronto to get my Privacy Act check done. (Although you could probably get both through the Commissionaires) The certified check took a couple of weeks to get and the Privacy Act took 9 days to get.

THEY ACCEPTED MY POLICE CERTIFICATE!!!!     They rejected my PRIVACY ACT on September 16th (submitted it on 09.14.18), I got the VISA/BORDER CROSSING completed the week after and submitted it along with the rejected PRIVACY ACT certificate on 09.27.18, they accepted all my VISA/BORDER CROSSING documents TODAY (10.10.18).  So i'm' assuming that even though they ask for the Privacy Act document, that the Visa Border Crossing is in fact the one to get.  If I had my time back I would have gotten both done at the same time and it would have saved me 4 full weeks.

I received an email from them stating that the NVC has received all the fees, forms and documents. They will work with the Consulate in Montreal to schedule an interview and send that notice to me.  Does this mean that today is my CC date?

Yeah it's all crappy and confusing. Commissionaires in Toronto told me there was no such thing as a Privacy Act that shows the fingerprints on it nor is it certified. People in the thread and others have stated they've been accepted with different criminal checks so far (so annoying). You're not the only one going through this mess, so just know that you're not alone lol ❤️.Good luck to you too, and I hope they accept what you've sent this time.

Relax, you're fine. The expiration date gets auto renewed by the embassy as long as there is action taken on your end.  Also just to note for future, your I-129f petition was approved. You now have the ability to apply for the K-1 visa through the embassy.

Even if your interview wasn't until November it would be fine. The embassy understands that it can take awhile to get stuff done like medical, paperwork, gathering documents, planning to go to the interview, ect.

Since you booked the interview, it has been "renewed" and you'll be just fine.
