Indonesia has a similar law.  When my wife naturalized, she gave up her Indonesian citizenship.  In her case, the trigger was:

    > Voluntarily obtaining another nationality or taking an oath of allegiance to another country;

She didn't fill out any forms.  We just put her Indonesian passport in the safe deposit box and never used it again.

I see a similar clause in the Indian nationality law that says that if you voluntarily take an oath to another country your Indian citizenship is "automatically lost".

If you have already naturalized in the U.S. and have a passport, I suggest that you can put your Indian passport away and not worry about having to tell India that you've left.  Filling out the form may cause you more trouble than it is worth.

    Regards,
    Vicky's Mom

I vote for rescheduling travel plans unless it's urgent. There's not that many things more important than becoming a US citizen. The problem with rescheduling oath, it can take months to get another invitation and USCIS can forget about the future citizen altogether 😃

The extensions do not stack. They run parallel. The policy for i751 aloows "now" 48 months & N400 24 months.

Lets say the "Card Expires" date on Physical Green Card is Jan 01, 2021.

i751 gives 48 months from above date = 4 years = Green card + ROC Letter makes expiry Date Jan 01, 2025 (4 years).

    n400 gives 24 months from above date = 2 years = Green card + N400 Letter makes expiry Date Jan 01, 2023. (2 Years).

I do not know of any app for that; I would not be surprised that something will come out; great way to track people too.

Here is how I have been keeping my card for the last 13ish years...
People have argued about what "having the card in your possession at all times mean" - Black's Law Dictionary, possession is “the fact of having or holding property in one's power”. Lawyers in our families think the same.  Husband's bestfriend who has been holding different positions in Border Patrol in the last 20 years thinks it is ok too.  I consider that my card is safely in my possession at home, in our safe, with my passport.
I will not risk losing it when I go to the gym, to the beach, or during my day to day activities, so I only take it when I expect to have to present it, and anytime I travel out of state.  I have a copy in my wallet, a digital picture of the front and back in my phone, and my husband knows exactly where it is stored, should I be held and required to present it.  I also have the business card on Mr. Border Patrol, this info, and the contact details of our lawyer saved.

Now, where I live, there is no regular checkpoints, or much tension between law enforcement and immigrants.  I would act differently elsewhere in the country.

My experience with 24 months extension (with existing i751 & original 12 months letter) was, I received the 24m letter in about 3 weeks from announcement.

I want to say that the letters are automated. The management decides (by looking at data), and in meeting they might have agreed 24m is enough, in next Oh No, at least 36 should be there. Now its like, we need 48 months.

B C reacted to OldUser in Long time green card holder looking to apply for citizenship
I think it would help filing a FOIA request, asking for your entire immigration history as the first step (it's free).

Ask your parents and get as much information about prior applications and circumstances, trips etc.

Also consider consulting with an immigration lawyer.

My understanding is that you should be able to naturalize if you pass physical presence test and continuous residence test in the last 5 years.

If I was you, considering the complex and long immigration history, I would apply with a lawyer and have him or her come to the N-400 interview too.

There's a risk USCIS may start digging the past, but how much of it is a problem, it's hard to tell, since you're in the US as LPR and weren't put in removal proceedings (unless you were).

The worst that can happen to you is not losing filing fees, but USCIS going after your green card and LPR status, that's why you should be careful and truthful in your application.

Or simply send a CR1 GC with new expiration date so it's crystal clear what it is and when it expires.

No, your current employer can't ask for new green card. In case of new job or travelling or driving license expiry, the only option is to get an ADIT I551 Stamp from USCIS by appointment. Most of the time stamp 8s good for 6 months, and you can get as many as you need as long as as of current you can show the need. Before covid there was no need to show the necessity of stamp to get one.

    B C got a reaction from Fekiryasenifal in i-751 October 2020 filers
Depends. If you are in the early phases of i751 (which you are not, its almost 2 years), like if your file is just waiting in queue to be seen, then n400 can help. If you had your biometrics, interview done or waived, or in queue for interview, then most probably your n400 will cause your i751 to be pulled out from i751 queue & put in n400, & thus follow the n400 timeline.

But still, I would do n400 if eligible, because one would do it at the end of i751, so why waste time & start it now.

Since you love the word Alien, I guess you as Alien have no right to complain about serious of backlog then. People get treated with the way they been classified. I'm sure the same government bills that's calling to remove such words know what people like me and millions of others are calling for.

I really don't see what gas prices and inflation have anything to do with immigration policies,  they are hurdles faced by everyone living in the USA.  I guess that's a way of pivoting the subject.

If the stephen miller public charge rule had been in effect, many of the people in this forum would not even have access to the legal immigration process.  Most of the backlogs were artificially and purposely placed in the legal immigration process, for example, requiring an interview for ALL adjustment of status cases, and specially ROC applications.

And I do understand that we all wish that all of this had been undone quickly, sadly that is just not how government works, although, lately there have been good signs.

The previous administration was so pernicious against immigrants the they even tried to change the interpretation of the 14th amendment of the Constitution to eliminate birthright citizenship, and they tried to get rid of DACA.
