The green card will be taken at the oath ceremony, not at the interview. Flying out same day of the interview shouldn't be an issue.

Chicago does not offer same day oath ceremonies. You can reschedule the oath if you can't make it. My husband got sick on the day of his oath ceremony, so he didn't go. He wrote a letter explaining what happened and then he was automatically re-scheduled for another oath ceremony about a month later.

    Quick update from me.

I’m a LIN filer with a receipt date of 03/26/2020.

I received my approval without an interview 01/13/2021. I had previously been interviewed for my change of status.

Good luck all. There’s movement in Nebraska.

I’m thinking “I wish my service center was Texas”. I think we’re still within standard processing times.

Reggie B got a reaction from amforever in Transferring Money to US Fiance before Moving
When I moved over, my fiance opened a new account in her name and all my savings went in there until I could open my own account.

There was no tax issues or awkward questions about this at my GC interview.

I would also recommend transferwise for sending over money, it’s what I used.

I had an EAD from my F-1 OPT in college that I was asked to surrender at my marriage-based AOS interview. So I'd keep it just in case.

I got mine a few days after arriving.
Search google for i-94 and print a copy from there, that’s what I used.

From what I've seen here, they state that it can take up to 30 days but most people have them in 1-2 weeks.

I applied for my AOS mid February. We just received our interview date today for the 21st May. Our local office is Chicago. I'm currently looking for how long it takes after the interview to actually get a GC but this is a lot quicker than I had expected. I haven't even received my EAD or AP yet..

Reggie B got a reaction from tammyjb in How I got my first credit card (in US ~3 months on K1)
I will just put this up here as it was one of my main worries about moving to the US.

I just got issued my first US credit card today. Anyone who has been here will tell you this can be a real pain to get since you start with no credit history.

My background: I'm from the UK and have gone through the whole K1 process and am now married and adjusting towards my first greencard (the 2 year conditional one).
This info assumes you can get an American Express credit card back home and they allow you to use their global transfer system with it.

Firstly: Get an american express card, preferably one with no annual fees and start using it - You have to have the card at least 3 months I believe to be considered.
Secondly: Make sure you keep this card in good standing and use it for as much as possible whilst you're still in your home country.
Third: Once you're in the US with your K1 visa, get your SSN ASAP.
Forth: After you're married phone up the American Express customer service and get them to direct you to global transfer, they will guide you through all the steps. The reason I say wait until you are married is that you can give your spouse's salary as other income you can reasonably expect access to, which should help the application.

The phonecall took me 30 minutes, I waited almost 3 months to do this and wish I hadn't put it off. If you want a trouble free way of getting access to a way to build your credit rating I would highly recommend this.

Also just for reference I was approved today, the card has a credit limit comparable to back in the UK and has good terms. Yesterday I was declined for a store card at a well known large retailer. I don't know what I would have done without this as no-one is going to touch you without credit.

Reggie B got a reaction from Lorna&Alex in experiences with additional proof of ongoing relationship for interview at London Embassy
I took a well laid out file with all the required documents and then evidence of a couple of additional trips which had happened since the initial application. My fiancee was with me (we confirmed with the embassy beforehand).
All I would say is make sure you take every scrap of required documentation (originals are fine because they are returned) and any additional evidence that's occurred since the original application (we were not asked for this info).
The most important info you take is the financial support stuff. The interview itself, if you're a legit couple, simply don't worry about it.

What we did was to put my Fiance on my credit card. Particularly AMEX. They report to Credit Bureaus the same information on creditworthiness for both of you. With Amex you do need the SS Number, however, until you get the Green Card, your SS Number is a restricted number with the notation not Valid for Work Authorization etc etc...

Within a year of me being here, his credit rating was 820 and no he did not have any credit cards in Kenya.

I interviewed yesterday at London for a K1 and they took the confirmation page for my DS-160. The lady at the small tent out front has a list of appointments where you will be checked off using this and a passport.

Had my medical on the 9th Aug and was told it would take a week (5 working days) to reach the embassy if there are no problems. So I would personally get the medical done at least a couple weeks before your interview date.

Just wanted to share our experience so far and perhaps give hope to those still awaiting a response.

We receieved our NOA1 on the 17th jan and finally got our NOA2 in the mail on friday (26th May) after being RFEd at the start of the month.

Our RFE came on 3rd May for a reason that was entirely our own fault (even after us both triple checking we still managed to miss something). We sent it back and had confirmation it was received on 12th May.

After waiting almost two weeks I had read the tracker was malfunctioning on here. So my fiancee rang USCIS on Thursday. We were told the RFE hadn't been actioned yet and we had to wait at least 60 days. This was disheartening.

The next day after work my fiancee checked her mail and there it was. The NOA2 notice!!! It was brilliant. It took so long but we finally got there.

My only advice to those still waiting is don't lose hope and take anything you're told about the status of your case with a pinch of salt.

BTW: Our case is still showing as RFE received on the case tracker
