My fiance arrived yesterday 5/24/2018 on a K-1 Visa. We got her I-94. Should we go ahead and get her a social security number or wait? Has anyone gotten their social security card before 2 weeks after arrival? Did the SAVE-asvi sistem have your name on arrival in the US?

Thanks.

Yes, you can do the SSN after arrival and I highly recommend it. I would wait about 48-72 hours before you apply for one though just to be sure.

@Cyberfx1024 @Kyle&Ana Thanks for the prompt response. For future reference for everyone that may read this...

A) We got I-94 few hours after she landed not even 24 hours after arrival from ATL.

B) We went to apply for her social security card and got a letter that they will verify the documentation and the goverment database for her immigration status and in about 4 week we get a social security number.

C) We got a marriage license today 5/24/2018 and got ahold of a officiant to sign our license and turned around to take it to the local courthouse in Alabama. All done in 1 day.  Certificates where available the same day.

Please do not wait 10 days to file for Social security and/or marriage license or certificates....i have read that in older posts. As of today all this could and was accomplished in less than 10 hours the day after arrival.  With current wait times, if it weren't for Monday being Memorial day...we would be filing AOS no later than a week after her arrival.

We still had time today for my fiance to rest, do a little shopping and have a nice meal for us and celebrate that we got married. God luck to everyone here.

Question. I-94, we get it online ( my acknowledge) or do we have to ask for CBP to provide us by POE ?

Thank you.

Your welcome. I also suggest to get you I-94 the next day after arrival and get the jump on social security, marriage license, officiant signature and certificate. I got all this done yesterday and not planning on waiting to file AOS. I got this all done in less than 10 hours. Wait times for EAD in my area are insane.

Yes. I heard that we should wait 2 weeks for SSN but now with your experience I will do immediately too. I don't want wait for too long for EAD AP and GC.  the sooner the better.

Unfortunately I didn't do my research properly and didn't know I could apply for my wife's social immediately upon arrival. Now we are basically waiting for the EAD, AP, etc... and it sounds like it's going to be a long time before she gets it. If I'm reading the timelines properly, it takes about 5 freaking months. Arggghhh!

Anyway, good luck guys!  :)
