Thank you both, @Bzlibem and @ImagineMe! I guess I panicked too early because I got a text and email notification about 40 minutes ago saying the response was at the post office in Laguna Niguel, and then a second notification about 10 minutes later saying it was ready for pick up.

I’d try to call USPS, they might be able to locate the package and explain what’s going on with it.. of course speak to a human since their hotline is freaking annoying
also, their actual customer service is going to give you a call back, which is usually a few hours

From my experience, I would suggest you to get a US driving license ASAP. Before I was eligible to get one, I got pulled over and they did not honor an international drivers license. I got arrested and sent to court for driving without license. Charges were dropped, but it was still a nerve racking experience.

    OMG thats awful.
I understand that I should work to get my US driving license ASAP.
One of my cousins who is a USC told me that since I am from India (Right-hand drive) and I start driving in US (Left-Hand drive), I am bound to make a few mistakes in the beginning. If I get an international driving license and drive around for the first few months with that, I may get tickets on that license. If I get the US license and get tickets on that, my insurance premium may shoot up. So basically like, practice a little bit on the International Driving License before you go out and seek the US driving license.

I know for sure that Bank of America allows adding an alien co owner to the account, even if one’s a visitor. Also, some smaller credit unions allow it too. They have never asked me for SSN and just scanned my passport.
You could’ve applied for ITIN to file MFJ with your spouse. It takes longer but it’s worth it. Makes it easier for the alien spouse in the US before they get a SSN.
Also, it doesn’t hurt to add a whole bunch of secondary evidence, like for example some family membership cards (wholesale stores, Walgreens prescription card, etc).
It just seems like USCIS wants to see an effort. For sure it’s better to take your time before filling and front load your AOS application.
best of luck to you. Don’t give up

Honestly I don't know who would want to spend YEARS putting time and effort into coming to America unless you were really desperate or in LOVE. Life is not easy just because you live in America.

They will send you a letter once they are done. Same letter as you would get after filing a service request
i think you can also check the status if you have a myUSCIS account in case history tab

Bzlibem reacted to TNJ17 in Naive mistake: should I withdraw K1 application?
Well, excuse the bluntness but that was just stupid. Do people not understand what the word fiancé means? You cannot be married. You have to be unmarried. Regardless of what you are doing, the first rule of K1 Visa is do not plan anything. They literally tell you this. There is no guarantee. And one of the main rules of a fiancé visa is you have to be free to marry. A wedding celebration makes you married under the eyes of immigration officers. Why would you risk it? Withdraw the K1 and deal with the consequences now. You will actually have to get court married now, go through the whole petition process again, you will not be able to cut in line, and it’s gonna take almost twice as long.

It’s doable. Both me and my husband do school/work full time. It is stressful, and certainly, requires some sacrifices. Online classes are nice, but they often require more work than in-person classes, so try to mix them up a bit (I.e take one half of your credits online, and the another half in person; it’s much easier).
Regarding student loans, I noticed that a credit score is significantly lowered only for around 6 months due to lowered age of credit. However, in my case, it always goes back up after around 5-6 months (Federal loans).

Bzlibem reacted to Jorge V in Devestated about Cr1 sponsor finacial requirements help please
It does in fact seem that you have misunderstood the requirements. The link shared by @Bzlibem does not load for me, so here it is again just in case: https://www.uscis.gov/i-864p . The requirements for a household of 2 you need an income of $20,300/year (more if you live in Hawaii or Alaska). The 3x you're seeing is if you're using assets instead of income. So let's say you're retired and thus have no real "income", but you do have savings that you're living off of. You're allowed to use these savings in lieu of income as long as you're savings are 3x the income requirement if you're sponsoring your spouse, or 5x if you're sponsoring anyone else. So a retired person would need at least $60,900 in savings to sponsor their spouse.

That said, it appears that you're still $1400 short. No worries, you can find a joint sponsor to overcome that $1400 deficit. The sponsor can be any US citizen or resident domiciled in the US. You can also make up the deficit by combining your income and $1400 x 3 ($4,200) in assets. Assets can be anything that can be converted into cash within a year. The conversion to cash cannot present an undue hardship to the sponsor. So selling off your primary house at a loss is probably a no-go.

If ITIN is for her then it needs to be assigned to her name so therefore it needs to be her passport and her signature

You for sure need her passport, or at least get a certified copy of it from an embassy (that way you can just mail it in to the irs without the IRS appointment) , and of course her signature on the ITIN form
Otherwise, she would have to come with you to the IRS appointment do that the agent can approve the ITIN  and tax form and you don’t have to mail anything in
and on the top of that you will need a marriage certificate if there was a name change

Bzlibem got a reaction from Mara0899 in Tax return
Or if you want to file jointly and she doesn’t have an ITIN, you can apply for it alongside your tax return and attatch the ITIN form (w-something) on the top of your tax return.  the best way to do it is to schedule an appointment at IRS office and have your forms all ready, so that way you don’t need to bother with trying to get a certified copy of her passport, nor send the passport in mail and wait for months to get it back (yes, people do that lol).
at least that’s how we got it solved last year. Downside- a long wait. We filed in early February and got the ITIN and the refund in the middle of May
advantage- it helps when you know you will have to prove state residency for all kinds of institutions, plus thanks to ITIN, she can start building her credit history right away
