In my case, I work a Fortune 500 company and we have collaborative work in many parts of the world. My current project is with a company in Israel and I'm expected to go to Tel Aviv once every few weeks. Problem is that for my Indian passport, Israel requires that i apply for a tourist visa. And they only provide a single entry, so in the past year, I've applied for the visa 6 times and its a hassle. It takes about 2 weeks to approve, so I really have to plan my visits. My USC colleagues can wake up today and fly out this afternoon if needed. I feel that I'm not able to grow professionally because of this restriction. Most of my teams ends up flying and I'd have to Skype in. That's the main reason I'd like to get a US passport ASAP.
Gotcha. I'm a flight attendant and we fly to TLV too, I guess with crew they are less stringent.

Just out of curiosity and not trying to be rude, why do some of you in such a hurry to apply for N400 before the ROC is completed? Is it so that you can vote next year?

From what I’m gathering from most of the responses here, it is all about location location location.
we moved from LA to Dallas for a year and we were miserable, and now that we are back in LA next to the beach we got our life back, I can’t imagine living anywhere else other than SoCal!
sure it is more expensive but life is too short to live in a small town and harsh winter and be anything but happy.
relocate! We are not trees.

Hey Album, I’m from Malaysia and I have applied for tourist visa before. I didn’t have an invitation letter, but I did bring bank statements and pay slips for proof of employment. And because my passport is full of stamps from various countries, they know I’m not a risk. Low refusal rate for Malaysia means your parents will have a high success rate for obtaining the visa.

I was having the impression that we (CSC) are exempted from doing the biometrics.

They always ask me so many questions, and I am in my uniform, usually takes extra 40min for me even if I just go straight to the officer, I need to figure it out a way to get my passport stamped on USCIS
That is just so weird, they are always extra nice towards crew and welcome us back to the country. Which POE is this? I mainly come in through ATL, DTW, SEA, MSP, JFK and LAX.
Sorry if I offended anybody with the peasant reference, that was just crew talk and is meant for giggles.

I’m also a crew member traveling with the extension letter. I find it easier now than before because we can just skip the kiosk and go straight to the counter. We don’t wait in normal line like the peasants but the dedicated crew line. No problem with the officers either, it’s always a quick process and I even got ahead of other crew members using global entry.

Hahah girl I feel you, same here!! I’m sooo broke too. At least I get to fly and see diferent places at work and hopefully when I come home after a trip my NOA will be siting there waiting for daddy.
Are you a flight attendant? I still feel that the $680 is unnecessary expenditure, why make us pay so much just to remove condition?

Yep. Maybe occasionally you won't, but that will be the exception rather than the norm.
I see no reason why not.
Thanks heaps! If I can still use the crew line and bypass the general public I guess I’m all set!

First off, I will say you can't miss the biometrics if you're scheduled. So you'll need to figure out something there.
Second, after your year extension expires, you simply make an infopass appointment and go to a local USCIS office and get a I-551 stamp. That stamp will be your green card for another year, after your NOA year extension expires.
Your job should be affected by none of this, as long as you make sure to attend your biometrics and get a stamp in your passport after your year extension expires.Got it, thanks!

I don't know the answer to the crew line part, but I do know you can't use the kiosk. You need an unexpired GC in order to use the kiosk.
Ok, that was my fear. I will check with the other crew with a similar situation. Thanks for responding!
-
Thanks, that’s all I needed to hear!
30 minutes ago, simsim2 said:You are thinking too much. Concerning the secondary processing, one way to make sure this does not happen is to sign up for Global Entry. Upon your first re-entry in the States using ROC, they will send you to secondary processing, verify that the letter is correct and you can ask to update your GE account then. Afterwards, when you come back to the States, use the GE machine without your Green Card - enter manually your A#. Should work like a charm!
-
Hey guys, I’m about to file ROC and my GC expires 9/13.
Background: I’m a Delta flight attendant and travel internationally a lot.
Question: I know I can still travel with the extension letter for a year, but does that mean I can still use the kiosk when I arrive back in the US with the expired GC and do I have to go through secondary every single time? And can I still use the crew line to expedite the process?
I ask this because it would not be ideal for me to spend a lengthy time at immigration every time I get back to the US from overseas.
thanks for your help people.
-
Hey guys, my GC expires 9/13 so I guess I will be filing this month as well, let’s do this together! I’ve been super lazy with the gathering of documentation so I really need to buck up.
my biggest concern right now is my employment. I’m a Delta flight attendant so I fly in and out of the country a lot. How will this process affect my ability to get through immigration in a timely fashion? I don’t want to have a secondary every time I come back into the country!
also, the letter only extends the date for one year right? And I heard it typically takes more than a year to complete the ROC? So can I still work for Delta when it does expire?
I don’t have tons of proof other than the usual joint bank accounts and stuff and my summer flying schedule is hectic so I don’t know if I can find time to attend biometric appointment. I’m not worry tho because we are a legit couple but I just worry about my employment with Delta.
please tell me that I’m thinking too much.
Marcus.
-
Thanks you guys, appreciate it!
-
Hey guys, does anyone know what the procedure is working while ROC is being processed? I’m currently a flight attendant for Delta and I’m set to file my ROC in May. Can I continue employment with Delta when my 2-year GC expires and can I travel out of the country? Obviously my job requires me to travel internationally.
thanks for the help!
