There's no harm in doing so in hoping that they "nudge" it along once it is outside "normal" processing timelines (i.e. 60 days). As others noted though, realistically I wouldn't expect anything to come from it other than the case is being processed and they will let you know when there is an update. Getting anything useful from a consulate during AP is like talking to a wall, unfortunately.

I thought about that cause the pictures of the 2 families were in the religious ceremony so he may be asks when we had the religious ceremony and it was one month after my interview and before they make any decision.
On the US embassy website in Egypt it's written that the only marriage that counts legal in Egypt is the civil marriage!
We also didn't have any papers signed or any kind of certificates for the religious marriage. Just the 2 families and my friends!

    Yep

A congressperson/senator cannot expedite an AP. No one can force the embassy to issue a visa until visa eligibility is fully determined.

The way I read/interpret it is that the 60 day "rule" makes sense when they reviewing the documents we sent. I imagine, the reason they have asked for the passport is the they are done reviewing and have made a decision to issue the visa(why else would they return documents and ask for the passport?

All I am trying to say it that an inquiry may be the nudge that is needed IMHO.

I contacted my Senator at a different 2 different stages. At the NVC my husband's case was stuck when they changed the fees and no one knew why. I contacted my Senator's liaison, he contacted the NVC and had my husband's case moving within hours.

I contacted them again when my husband's case was in AP at the consulate. I contacted the liaison after a month of AP and he contacted the consulate and followed the case. At this point there was nothing the liaison could do to get my husband out of AP because a visa cannot be approved until all background checks are final. But the liaison did email the consulate on a weekly basis for updates.

I contacted my US Senator's immigration liaison during my husband's process and no one was "irritated".

I will say that from my own experience and from others on this forum over the years that you're better off contacting your US Senator for help as congress people don't seem to be as helpful.

AP as mentioned is open ended. Can be 2-3 days, 2-3 weeks, 2-3 months, even 1-2+ years. Some members here had been at 18+ months recently and still no word. The embassy is finalizing their checks and verifying information. In some countries known to have extended AP times, it's usually because those records are so difficult to verify, so it takes time. You can not expedite or bypass AP.
You can contact your congress person or representative, but they can't make the embassy do anything, they can "nudge" them, but the embassy has it's own powers totally separate from everyone else. After a long time, say 1 year, some people will write in another form/legal procedure (i can't for some reason recall the name right now) basically forcing a decision, and usually it ends up in a denial as the embassy just denies it because they couldn't finish the process. So usually not a good outcome.

It doesn't go to the CO directly, each office has a liaison specifically assigned to address senator and congressional inquiries.

I involved one for my Naturalization and lo behold, I had oath scheduled in a month. They never explicitly said because of CO inquiry but from what I gather,  an CO inquiry means "Look at it now, fix it now if reasonable"

Think of it as this way, if you have issue with a product/ company (USCIS/NVC) and CS (calls/letters) is not being helpful, you contact CFPB (CO) and they reach out to company and the company has a team tasked with keeping CFPB happy.

It is very much your right to seek congressional help, the more detailed case you provide, the better.

I am sure that it will be finished soon, they fact they asked for the passport is a great sign, just give them the time to review the documents, embassy's are becoming increasingly more busy.

in my husbands case no other documents were needed they handed my husband a 221G marked AP and handed him back his passport, on day 48 they called him to send the passport to the embassy by day 58 he had it in hand again.
    were any mother documents requested?
  17. Thanks
ujones reacted to Khallaf in Congressman
so they have your passport currently is my understanding.

AP is a black hole and can take 60-90 days min to complete background checks, there is nothing that can be done to rush this. I can recommend sending an inquiry at 90 days if you still have not heard anything.

my husbands case sat in AP for 48 days issued by day 58.

you just have to be patient some go months and months with no answers some as far as 2 years.

since you are a K1 once the CEAC goes from updating as an immigrant visa to non immigrant this will be a good sign.

You should relax and enjoy a few cold beer. Her plan isn't all upside either. She probably got her AP a lot later than your wife. If something had come up in the meantime that absolutely required her to travel home, she would've had to abandon the AOS process. But yes it appears her floating time out-of-status paid of handsomely. Also, your wife will be able to file N400 sooner than her (three years from when one first becomes a green card holder, 2 or 10 years is irrelevant).

You might try both options below.

First try submitting an inquiry using this link from the Ombudsman; submit your request online.  If you have already submitted online but did not receive a confirmation email with your case number, the submission did not go through.  Please try again.

If you have not submitted Form DHS-7001, Case Assistance Form, online or made other arrangements with our office to file on paper, we will not respond to any emails.

    Email: cisombudsman@hq.dhs.gov

Second try your U.S. representative's contact information can be found in this handy directory, and your U.S. senator's information is in this one.

If you receive a response and it contains anyone of these sentences this will be the meaning of that phrase.

If the CSC response is due to a congressional case worker inquiry, the service center will say "security checks"

If the CSC response is from a regular service inquiry from their website, the service center will say "adjudication"

@AAAA27 @ujones It would be very nice to know why our cases are taking a longer period of time to be approved, whereas people who interviewed after us and still had to submit additional information, are getting approved before us. So much for doing things in order of it being received. I'm sure it's a question that will never be answered.

@Greenbaum, even though I wish it was the case I’m not sure how correct that is as ours  has been showing this status for the last two weeks but still has to search under” immigrant”status in ceac
