As an older fellow, I too remember those days.  But there exists a group on here (representative of a larger group in America, I imagine) who still think guns are the problem. 
 
Our country was founded on guns.  Without them, America as we know it would not exist today.  You and I saw guns in school.  I used to carry a pocket knife to class at the age of 7 or 8.  I remember kids wearing bigger knives in sheaths on their belts.  No one was stabbed.  No one was shot.  
 
The root cause is humans. And the lack of respect for human life.

I love pancakes.  Never tried MJ pancakes, however.

If I had to choose between 11 minutes and 5 seconds, I would prefer to call on myself.

I doubt anyone is surprised by this.  Even if you can't stand Trump, it's pretty obvious it was an illegal move to try and smear Trump by his opposition.  That failed.  But no need to go after them now, it's "just politics", right?

Was just using the national average.  11 minutes is a virtual eternity in a dangerous situation such as a home burglary.  Good thing they hardly ever happen in America...

I'm sure when you posted this, you were considering the criminal element among illegals, of which there SEEM to be quite a few, because we hear more about them in the media.  And due to the rule changes under Obama, less illegals are being deported today (not necessarily a good thing) while more criminal illegals seem to make the news (a good thing).

I actually doubt that, Cyber.  I think (perhaps HOPE is a more correct term) that the majority of immigrants, whether legal or illegal, are decent people who appreciate being here.
 
I personally think the shift in behaviors stems from the ever-increasing violence in video games  (think Zelda vs. GTA or CoD), combined with less hands-on parenting and lower expectations of children.  That and media coverage of violence, which not only causes possible desires to replicate the perp, but also serves as a "how to" for those who lack the moral compass needed to succeed without hurting others.

Thankfully, the less evil person won, eh?

Not everyone who cries "we need more gun control" knows very much about actually buying, owning, nor shooting guns.  I didn't ask if he had ever bought a gun to give him a hard time; rather, it sets a baseline for the convo.  People who have never bought a gun have no idea what it takes (other than reading in the media, and we KNOW how full of bunk that can be).
 
As a responsible gun owner, I will always offer my time and effort to educate anyone on the subject.  I know your history with Jim, but I don't have it yet.  At least he ponied up and directly answered my questions, which is much more than certain other posters are capable of.

I think the US drinking age should be 16, the driving age 18 and the current age for firearms is correct (18 long gun and 21 handgun for most states). I mentioned this before but a psychological exam for those under 25 like they have in Germany makes sense.
 
By the way, the reason there is a different age for long guns and hand guns is due to two factors. Many people in rural areas hunt at a young age so there is pressure to have a lower age requirement. They also don't factor in to crime statistically.

Automatic weapons aren't really needed for individual self defense. They are squad weapons used for suppression of the enemy so that your friends can take the position.
