Not a very active month for submitting applications it seems like, compared to other threads   But I just submitted my application.  I'm interested to see what my estimate timeline looks like once it updates in the system...

Saw today (11 December) in the 'Documents' section of MyAccountUSCIS that wife's Bio is scheduled for 24 December 2018.
This is pretty quick scheduling as she only submitted N-400 on-line on 6 December.
So 5 days from submission to scheduling, and 18 days from submission to appointment date.
WOW . . . wouldn't it be great if the rest of USCIS processing operated this fast ?? !!

We also got our biometrics letter. However, it's scheduled for December 27. We will be out of town with my family for the holidays! We are going to try to walk in next Monday December 17. I am going to bring our plane tickets as evidence that we will be out of town. Hope it works. I heard it's best to go in the afternoon, so we will go around 2p.

Won't get into personal views or argue against other's views, but not all people who are pro limiting immigration or immigration reform, believe in all these 'reasons'. Just stating so not everyone gets labeled a monster or something. There are plenty on this site who are pro immigration reform, and yet are dealing with the immigration system for their fiance(e) or spouse. So you can be pro immigration in some respects but still believe it needs change. You can't just be far left on open borders or far right on shut down the borders; majority of people are somewhere in the middle when it comes to this topic believe it or not.

I see that you just want pump articles into this subforum and then leave after that talk we had. I just wanted to let you know that the same article link you posted refutes your claims and it cherry picks the data hard core.

No, it shouldn't be an issue.  You aren't required to and you really shouldn't even need to ask for a combo interview.  I just highly recommend it because the USCIS can miss details.  I have seen some people comment on VJ that they had been approved before they were able to get back on their bus ride home, and others still waiting for a month or more after their interview.  It's just extra work on your end to try to compensate for any USCIS processing oversight!

You will see some confusing wording.  The thing is that your citizenship cannot be approved until your ROC is processed.  When you get the USC interview, make sure that you contact the USCIS to make sure you get the combo interview - where the adjudicating officer interviews to close the ROC and USC petition both.  They need to complete the ROC petition in the system first, then can approve your USC.  Make sure you call the USCIS to get your case transferred when you are in line for an interview, then when your interview is scheduled, mail two things:
    1) A copy of your interview letter to the office that has your ROC and request the case gets transferred to the local office
    2) A copy of your ROC NOA to the local office with your interview letter and request your interview is a combo

The last part may be overkill as the USCIS is supposed to do this automatically, but I don't trust them and this is what we will be doing!

I work for an immigration firm and we recently ran some tests between paper filing and online filing for the N-400 ---results showed that we were getting responses and more movement quicker on the online side of things. So I'd definitely say that's the better way to go. I'll be doing mine online in less than a month.

    Good luck 🍀

Every calendar month, they process around 2-3 weeks worth of cases. The 3-4 months estimate is more of a 5-7 months IMO

Oh my mistake. I was thinking it was 3 years after marriage, not 3 years after his green card. So yes, we'll be looking at 2020. Makes it feel more like it's worth paying for ROC if it's a whole year difference.

Agreed, OP based on your original post, 3 yrs would be June 2020 (you said the GC expires June 2019).  You can complete the N400 90 day prior, so April 2020.  The earliest you can file your ROC is April 2019.

Wow!  Four months!  I hope you can benefit from that timeframe, Taber!  Yes, we are going to file the day the 90 days open.  Once you file and pay online, you get the NOA immediately, then the biometrics a month later.  The next step would be placed in line for an interview.  Looks like you can file as early as November 29th, which is 36 days away!

Well, it appears I answered my own question. Straight from the N-400 instructions. Are you personally planning to file 3 months early? I live in Columbus and the field office here is pretty quick, someone I know filed last year and went from application to oath in about 4 months...

Early Filing. An applicant filing under the general naturalization provision (section 316(a) of the INA) may file his or her application up to 90 days before he or she would first meet the required 5-year period of continuous residence as a lawful permanent resident (LPR). An applicant filing as the spouse of a U.S. citizen under section 319(a) of the INA may file up to 90 days before meeting the required 3-year period of continuous residence as an LPR. Although an applicant may file early according to the 90-day early filing provision, the applicant is not eligible for naturalization until he or she has reached the required 3- or 5-year period of continuous residence as an LPR. Applicants filing up to 90 days before meeting the continuous residence requirement must still meet all other requirements for naturalization at the time of filing Form N-400. For example, an applicant filing under section 319(a) of the INA must meet all other requirements as the spouse of a U.S. citizen at the time of filing.

    Hey @Amhara,

One more question for you! I was under the impression you could not file for citizenship until 3 years from the date you received the conditional green card (assuming still married). For example, I have been a conditional resident since 2/27/2016. Can I only file for citizenship after 2/27/2019 or am I actually able to within the 90 days leading up to 2/27/2019? I had planned to file in early March. For some reason I thought that 90 day window thing only applied to removing conditions application.

Thanks once again for your help! Truly appreciate it!

    Frances

Green card was delivered today and it looks great - the right dates, nothing misspelled.  YEAH!!!!!

Just to let others know, no signature was required.  It was sent via priority mail and was received only 6 days after approval.
As for the expiration date, the 10 years begins with the date of the approval of the removal of conditions.  (not some earlier date - like the date of the expiration of the 2 year card).  In other words, we have 10 years before we have to jump through bureaucratic hoops again.
Also we received - today as well - the 18 month extension letter on official letterhead and this replaces the unofficial extension that was sent in August.
Also we received an official letter telling us that we were approved.  All of this came on the same day!! hahaha!!

We are all very fortunate to have VisaJourney to help guide us through this whole process and to exchange information with one another.   I cannot think of another website that has been so helpful to us in our lives as this website.  It deserves some sort of award!

Good luck to all who are still waiting.  I bet you will have good news soon.
