  1. When I figured it for my wife's vehicle replacement using comparably equipped vehicles, I got a payback of 13+ years and that assumed no electricity rate increases and only charging at home. The economics did not make any sense for a vehicle we were only going to keep 3 years.
  2. I am also surprised that an airline would actually not verify the travel documents.
  3. Yes, I understand you bought your Tesla for the fun of driving. Btw, the attacks will come as more EVs are used. If you think oil is fought over too much, wait until the scarce materials needed for EVs are in big demand and there are only a few players/countries in control. I really do not understand the big environmental groups that are in fact demanding EVs for environmental reasons and how they are so against the mining needed for the EV materials. NIMBY I guess. I am fine with EVs as I said, I really don't care that they accelerate so quickly, not a selling point. I do care about economics (I know, not a huge factor for you) and I say let them stand on their own, and people can decide for themselves. Maybe when EVs make economic sense, I might buy one. Regardless, I would never park one in an attached garage of my house, but that is just from first hand experience on what they will do eventually.
  4. See your inner environmentalist is coming out. I never understood how the horse and buggy analogy made any sense when comparing ICE to EVs. EVs are not some great leap in transportation technology as compared to ICE, in fact EVs have been around for almost the entire time we have been utilizing 4 wheel motorized transport. The only advantage is now there is new battery chemistry that improves the energy storage density, but it still does not get close to Mother Nature. Regardless, I have always been a fan of new stuff, and sure EVs are fun to drive, but they still have many limitations of which is they are still emitting a lot of CO2 and VOCs, but for some reason the EV fans don't care. Now the horse and buggy analogy would make sense if someone actually perfected the Star Trek transporter.
  5. Difficult to answer. It can be anywhere from a couple days to more than a year depending on the individual case, the country, etc. Good Luck!
  6. Don't show up at the SSA first thing in the morning. I remember going there with my wife (fiancé at the time entered on a K1) first thing, and had a two hour wait. When she got her GC from AOS I was more strategic, and we showed up around 1:30p, and had a less than 5 minute wait. Good Luck!
  7. Ok, so is this person being forced on Ukraine by the woke Corrupt Biden Administration, or has Ukraine gone full woke? Ukraine military's transgender spokes"woman" is simply insane Whatever the reason, I am pretty sure that Sarah’s commentary as an official spokesman from the Ukrainian military will do little to bolster the American public’s flagging support for the war in Ukraine. This is profoundly unserious stuff, more worthy of a Saturday Night Live skit than even wartime propaganda. At the beginning of the war I was amazed at how good Zelenskyy was at propaganda–and I mean that as a compliment. Rallying the troops and gaining support from allies was a primary job of his, and he accomplished it with seeming ease. This, though, does not strike me as a masterstroke. Support for the war, which initially was bipartisan, has become more partisan over time, and using a transgender whacko as a means to recruit support for the war effort is unlikely to endear Ukraine to the people least likely to support them already. https://hotair.com/david-strom/2023/08/15/ukraine-militarys-transgender-spokeswoman-is-simply-insane-n571216
  8. Nope, we will be forced to use hobbyhorses, or coconuts.
  9. Yes, cars catch fire, but there is a big difference between an ICE and an EV. As someone that has extinguished several vehicle fires, even a big RV that may catch fire (usually due to an electrical problem), they can be put out with minimal amounts of water and in fairly short times (one of the stories you posted actually said the fire was extinguished quickly). EVs are a different story, if an EV battery pack goes into runaway while parked in a garage, you may as well write off the house as it will be a long time before it can be extinguished, it will take a lot of water, and it may re-ignite after you think it is out. I am curious if homeowners insurance charges a premium for having an EV parked in an attached garage. As to the first story, I am a little curious as to what actually exploded. Most of the car fires I have been on, it is usually the tires that explode, and I suppose that may have been the case here with a DOT truck having larger and more tires. If this was a truck with any hydraulics, it may have been a hydraulic cylinder exploding. The big issue I see with EVs as compared to ICE is most ICE fires are caused by people not doing proper maintenance and a component subsequently failing (purely anecdotal from my first hand experiences), but an EV with the battery chemistry, can simply be sitting there and catch fire if something in the battery pack goes wrong. In the case of EVs, there is not much an owner can do to prevent it.
  10. But, but, but, Democrat. I am sure they could do a feature length movie with all the denying she has done and continues to do.
  11. Gotta get those pronouns right or the Left Woke Police will get on you.
  12. Couldn't resist. We need this type of competition as well.
  13. Interesting developments, hopefully this will progress fairly quickly. Licorice compound suppresses ‘silent killer’ pancreatic cancer, Hong Kong study finds, paving way for improved treatment A chemical compound in licorice, a herb commonly used in Chinese medicine, has proved effective in suppressing pancreatic cancer, a Hong Kong Baptist University study has found, paving the way for improved treatments against the “silent killer” disease. The research team behind the paper on Monday said isoliquiritigenin in licorice, or Gan Cao in Chinese, had lowered the survival rate of cancer cells in laboratory experiments, and resulted in fewer side effects compared with conventional treatments. It also boosted the impact of drugs commonly used to treat the illness, the researchers added. “This compound is worth considering for further development into a new generation of chemotherapy treatment,” said Joshua Ko Ka-Shun, an associate professor at the university’s school of Chinese medicine, who led the team. https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/health-environment/article/3230243/licorice-compound-found-be-effective-suppressing-silent-killer-pancreatic-cancer-hong-kong-study
  14. Turley is generally the voice of reason. That being said, I have heard other analysis saying that since Merrick G. did not allow the investigation scope to be expanded to include Old Corrupt Joe, the Congressional investigation can continue unabated since that investigation is about Old Corrupt Joe. One other question I heard bandied about is that since the entire Biden family except for Old Corrupt Joe, and Dr. First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden received money funneled through various LLCs, don't we need special prosecutors investigating the entire Biden crime family? Biden special counsel pick reveals AG Garland joining media in circling wagons to defend president, his family The appointment of David Weiss as special counsel in the Hunter Biden investigation has caused an outcry of objections, including from some of us who have called for such an appointment for years. Not only did Attorney General Merrick Garland not select someone from outside the Justice Department (as required under the law), but selected a prosecutor who has been accused by whistleblowers of running a fixed investigation. Yet, the most glaring problem was the failure of Garland to expand the mandate of the investigation to include the growing corruption scandal involving President Joe Biden. There appears no evidence that Garland will accept as warranting an investigation into corruption allegations involving now $20 million in transfers from a variety of foreign interests, including some with ties to foreign intelligence. https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/biden-special-counsel-pick-reveals-ag-garland-joining-media-circling-wagons-defend-president-his-family
  15. I am sure anything can be offensive to someone. The question is are we a country that placates everyone that feels offended? If it is, we are in a sad state of decline to oblivion.
  16. My thoughts exactly. If the idea was to keep something quiet (despite publishing it on the FaceBook), this was definitely not the right way to do it.
  17. Saw some tips on driving an EV to maximize range and of course one of the main suggestions was to avoid jack rabbit launches. Seems like mixed messaging, on the one hand EVs are touted for instant torque/acceleration, and on the other hand you should avoid doing that as it is detrimental to driving range.
  18. Wow, a Democrat Prosecutor indicts a Republican candidate and front runner against Old Corrupt Joe Biden for questioning the results of an election?
  19. If you have a separate question, it is probably best to ask it in a separate thread for the best responses.
  20. Old Corrupt Joe is a consummate liar, but for some reason the more and more discredited MSM doesn't seem to care. Five stories Joe Biden told about the family business that turned out to be untrue There are five claims the president and his defenders have made that now conflict with current evidence: Joe Biden never discussed business with his son or family. Joe Biden never met with his son's business partners. The Biden family did not get money from China. Hunter Biden "has done nothing wrong." The Hunter Biden laptop that emerged late in the 2020 election was Russian disinformation. Here is the evidence that conflicts with the president's claims: https://justthenews.com/accountability/political-ethics/five-stories-joe-biden-told-about-family-business-turned-out-be
  21. For our insurance folks. Claims severity for EVs outpace ICE-powered cars – report Published by Mitchell, a technology and information provider serving the P&C claims and collision repair sectors, the report found that repairable claims frequency for EVs rose 1.49% in the US and 2.64% in Canada during the second quarter of the year. The average severity for all EVs was higher by $963 in the US and $1,328 in Canada compared to cars powered by ICE. This differential became more pronounced when specifically analyzing Tesla models, reaching $1,589 and $1,600 respectively. https://www.insurancebusinessmag.com/us/news/breaking-news/claims-severity-for-evs-outpace-icepowered-cars--report-455988.aspx
  22. So just like the insurance companies with their "Big Brother" monitoring. Whatever, there is no need for this. There are a couple less intrusive options for states to get road taxes. The first would be to use an average miles driven annually divide that by an appropriate average mpg (based on vehicle class), and simply multiply that by the fuel tax. Sure some may be over charged or under charged based on their personal miles driven that year, but it is better than a government agency "monitoring" you. Another option would be to have EV owners report their miles driven annually. Now the real issue will be what happens to the federal fuel tax, and what about when you travel from state-to-state. Regardless, if states are doing the entire monitoring thing for EVs, it is a great reason not to buy one.
