What is up with Piers Morgan? This article condemns a "clean" US swimmer for mocking a doping Russian swimmer...all because there are two US athletes in track and field that were doping 10 years ago?
I guess Logic isn't something Piers does.
Oh yeah and then their was this tweet after Ginny Thrasher received the first US gold:
LEAST SURPRISING BREAKING NEWS EVER: America's 1st Olympic Gold Medal is for Shooting. #Thrasher

Just as a note. I live in California. Prior to this year I would say California laws were on par with say Canada. Starting in about a year the gun laws will be on par with Germany ie. one of the toughest in the world.
“We just had six laws that were passed in California that will directly affect me,” Ms Rhode, 37, said on Friday, specifically citing new state legislation regarding ammunition. “I shoot 500 to 10,000 rounds a day, having to do a background check every time I purchase ammo or when I bring ammo out for a competition or a match – those are very, very challenging for me.”
Ms Rhode said she was “becoming more vocal” about her opposition to what she sees as restrictive new gun control measures, including in the context of recent terror attacks. “When you look at these events... they’ve been occurring in some of the strictest gun law countries in the world,” she said.
“You have Paris, you have San Bernardino, which was actually in a gun free zone… in that five minutes or 10 minutes or 20 minutes in some cases that it takes for [police] to get there, how do you want to stand there? I would rather have my second amendment right.”

Why didn't she just do as asked the officer stood there patiently for a long period of time. She clearly resisted. More stupidity. If she was really scared why did she not stay in the car and why did she resist.
Its all a bit grey because she was out of the car, but the arrest itself is unlawful IMO.
-
I watched the video. I would say upfront it was pretty dumb to get out of the vehicle. If you are afraid of the person, you just lock your door roll down the window a bit and stick your license and registration out the window.
He probably reacted to her getting out of the car by saying he would arrest her.
That being said. I'm 99% sure women have the right to ask for another officer if she doesn't feel safe (specifically a female officer). She wasn't threatening the officer. IMO his ego snapped and he went for her.

So do you like working in mostly female environment?
I do. Everyone is very nice to me.
-
sounds like you never lack for sammiches
I had two of the most awesome coworkers (they both left a few years ago). I like Mexican Coke, so I came in on my Birthday and the fridge was stocked with them.
The following year the other coworker baked me coke cupcakes for my Birthday.

Interesting.
And no privacy in the office, even for interviews?
No, the conference room is out in the open. Anything private has to be taken outside...
-
Might the company be singlehandedly trying to make up for/correct/atone for a real or perceived historical male-over-female imbalance in your field? Might this be to score points with the Board of Directors, the customer base, or the Federal government?
We are pretty small so I don't think so. The hiring process is very transparent - we all hear / see the interviews due to an open style office.
The only thing that comes to mind is that male interviewers may be slightly more aggressive and that actually doesn't go over well with the owners.
-
So my company is hiring right now - we are going to hire a woman by the looks of it. I looked back at who has been hired in the past and was surprised.
When I was hired 70% of the office was woman. After I was hired they have hired one man, and 7 women.
Of the 7 women hired after me, three had immigrated from China.
I don't think the company is intentionally biased but I was surprised looking back.
PS. I am not in a woman dominated field.

Couple of points:
1. If any reparations were to come about, I'm positive you. wouldn't be paying out of your pocket. I don't understand why people think when this topic comes about, we're saying you have to pay us personally. The government would handle it, just like they did with the Japanese and the Native Americans. They were given something, don't know why this is always a sore subject.
Japanese reparations were paid to only surviving internees. Estates / Decendents didn't receive money.
In the case of Native Americans, the reparations were not for treatment or loss but for legally held lands that the US took.
Based upon these, the last opportunity for reparations died with the last living slave. That being said, I could see reparations being granted to survivors of Jim Crow laws etc.
-
We don't, but the fact that every single bad thing that this country has done and apologized for(Japan internment, Native American massacre, etc) slavery is the only thing that's never actually been brought up and dealt with properly.
I'd be good with some classes on how to improve/keep good credit, investment advice, and how to start/run a business. Because these things aren't abundant in poor urban/rural areas.
I think Congress did officially apologize in 2008.

I went on the site to see if people needed shooting lessons in my area....no one did.
In all serious, I did see if anyone was on the site that I could help.

We are in between eras at the moment. Most countries including the US dropped them by the end of the cold war. The US is testing the B61 model 12 at the moment (a bunker buster).
There was actually an article today on the B61 Model 12. Its getting close to production.

Forgive my ignorance, do we have tactical nukes? I thought that was just an idea

My first thought was maybe he was talking about tactical nuclear weapons...but then I realized he probably has no clue what the difference between tactical and strategic weapons.

Sort of like her time in Bosnia....

Oh yeah, this is obviously the same as calling someone a liar,
"Chris, my heart goes out to both of them. Losing a child under any circumstances, especially in this case, two State Department employees, extraordinary men both of them, two CIA contractors gave their lives protecting our country, our values. I understand the grief and the incredible sense of loss that can motivate that. As other members of families who lost loved ones have said, that’s not what they heard, I don’t hold any ill feeling for someone who in that moment may not fully recall everything that was or wasn’t said."
Of course she would have to say that...look at her husband.

last week my next door neighbor's brother shot and killed him and then shot and killed himself. don't be alarmed, the murderer was an excop and had every right to the guns they found on his corpse, even if he retired early and had a history of suicidal tendencies. the police department he worked for for 25 years does not have to respond to foia requests but i live in a small town and people talk.
so, personally i'm not so much worried about mass shootings or what quantifies a mass shooting, but more worried about all the secretly mentally/emotionally unstable people that surround us, who have no access to mental help but all the access for guns.
Dang you sound a republican going on about mental health.

Will Assange start releasing this stuff, or is he content to remain a tease?
Now is not the time. Attention spans are short and it would be less likely to hurt her in the election. I think minor things will be leaked in early October with the worst by the end of October.

Have to admit -- came here today just to see if there was anyone here who would take the short-fingered vulgarian's side on this. I was not disappointed.
Thank you, VJ -- don't ever stop being you.
To be fair, most people deflected to the clinton camp's record.
I actually think that Trump has a shot. I suspect that younger US turnout will be low this election now that Bernie is gone. That is a key demographic for Hillary.
I can't vote for Trump even if it was based on gun issues - for one I don't think he would appoint a Justice that is pro gun, but also he could really screw up a lot of treaties (both military and economic).
I'm probably just going to abstain.

No matter how bad this year's conventions were, they'll never top the 1924 DNC for worst ever.
