  1. Nothing to do with him actually standing in a voting booth. If no one likes what the Poliitico article is talking about, take it up with the framers of the Constitution or challenge it in court. Also sounds like it seems to favor the GOP, so not too much for you to worry about. Both articles are wholly misleading.

The real issue is he was a convicted criminal who may or may not be mentally unstable, and still allowed access to a firearm even though he was barred from doing so legally, and still continued to remain here in the US without being deported.

What are you seeing in his history? All I see is Assault in the 4th degree which is a misdemeanor.

Gun used was a ruger 10/22 it looks like.

  2. The wild wild west was safer from gun violence, good point!

Yep. Actually the 'wild west' as we know it today is a myth. Despite that the fact that there wasn't a heavy law presence, it was actually rather tame.

Dozens of movies have portrayed the nineteenth-century mining camps in the West as hot beds of anarchy and violence, but John Umbeck discovered that, beginning in 1848, the miners began forming contracts with one another to restrain their own behavior (1981, 51). There was no government authority in California at the time, apart from a few military posts. The miners’ contracts established property rights in land (and in any gold found on the land) that the miners themselves enforced. Miners who did not accept the rules the majority adopted were free to mine elsewhere or to set up their own contractual arrangements with other miners. The rules that were adopted were often consequently established with unanimous consent (Anderson and Hill 1979, 19). As long as a miner abided by the rules, the other miners defended his rights under the community contract. If he did not abide by the agreed-on rules, his claim would be regarded as “open to any [claim] jumpers” (Umbeck 1981, 53).

The mining camps hired “enforcement specialists”—justices of the peace and arbitrators—and developed an extensive body of property and criminal law. As a result, there was very little violence and theft. The fact that the miners were usually armed also helps to explain why crime was relatively infrequent. Benson concludes, “The contractual system of law effectively generated cooperation rather than conflict, and on those occasions when conflict arose it was, by and large, effectively quelled through nonviolent means” (1998, 105).

  3. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3804112/Woman-rushes-bed-opens-fire-three-home-invaders-stormed-house-shooting-dead-one-man.html

Attempted robbery occurred 4am Friday in Gwinnett, Georgia

Three armed men burst into the house looking for cash, police said

Woman came out of bedroom with a handgun and opened fire

She shot dead one man, but the other two escaped

Cops released footage of the incident in attempt to identify suspects

Why is this on the Daily Mail? Kinda Weird IMO

  4. So he is the mythical example of the perfect concealed carry permit holder, of extremely rare qualifications and caliber who happened to be in the wrong place at the right time. Vigilantes dream in the flesh. Got it!

The real rarity is the low number of conceal carry holders in anyone place. They are only like 2% of the population and they are restricted from many areas where shootings are most likely to occur.

  5. 1) Well, in 2015, cops killed about twice as many whites as blacks. Now what?

    2) I am trying to twist nothing, because having guns is a constitutional right. And guns don't kill, people do. Everyone with half a brain knows this to be fact. I am in no way concerned about losing my guns, for I have never done anything to warrant me losing them.

    3) I postulated a 10% number. Probably way off base. In fact, though you threw out some stats about what kills black males the most, truth is, the TOP FIFTEEN leading causes of death in the US since probably forever, and for sure in the past 10 years, do not involve homicide. Google it if you don't believe me. I have no idea where homicide comes into play, number-wise, because it is insignificant enough so as NOT to be a stat on the CDC site.

I may not be black, but I also am not blind. I have enough black friends to know that there are issues that still need to be overcome. But they also don't spend their days complaining about WP. They have worked hard to overcome, to get where they are. And I DO empathize with their struggles. Just because I think blm is a group of folks who could do MUCH better to further the cause of equality does not mean I think all blm members are bad. Only a small percentage (the ones portrayed in the media, shocker?) are hurting what the root cause is.

If you don't want me to discuss black issues here, then don't bring them up. Or do, if they are current and hot. But don't expect everyone to sit back and feel sorry for you because you're black and have it rough. I didn't have slaves, and you didn't pick cotton. That was before, we are now. You had one career and now a retirement, you are working on a second government retirement. Do you really expect anyone to feel sorry for you? You are far and above SO many in the US today, both black AND white. Be proud of who you have become, but don't try to make people feel bad for those who don't succeed as you have.

If you'd prefer to keep our discussions private via PM, we can do that. But I will call BS on you when I think it is BS. I will agree with you when I think you are right. And I will ALWAYS read what you say, and do my best to see your side of it. Sometimes, the written word comes across wrong. There is no feeling, or at the very least, it is easy to misinterpret the feelings and meaning of such.

And before you try to twist my words, I think that ANY killing of ANY innocent person is wrong. If a bad cop kills someone, whether they are a black or white cop or black or white victim, I think said cop should go to jail. I'll even go so far as to say be put to death. An eye for an eye, eh? Kill a bad cop, and he/she will never kill another innocent. And yet, we have this due process thing to worry about, so as not to violate individual rights. Still and all, I think bad cops need to be prosecuted. Your boy Michael Brown was a thug. Got what he deserved. Charles Kinsey, he got a raw deal. And I HOPE he wins his lawsuit against the cop who shot him.

Bring your stats. I know you are taking the class now. But be forewarned, I have taken that class 3 times. And I am good at math. Numbers can be twisted in SO many ways. But at the end of the day, none of those "stats" matter. What matters is... What difference can you and I make so that our grandchildren can live better lives?

Let's be clear. Marvin, the "I Keep Receipts" guy, is not African. He is black. There is a difference.

FYI Marvin closed his account so he can't respond.

  6. Shot by an off duty Police Officer. Not the fabled concealed carry permit holder rushing in to save the day with his trusty pea shooter. Perhaps the call to ban knives was sarcasm?

He is actually an instructor and owns Tactical Advantage LLC....you could say he is at the forefront of the conceal carry movement. From what I've read he is semi retired from the police, but still does part time work occasionally.

  7. I'm not a fan of BLM, but there clearly is an issue occurring with too many fatalities.

I don't think every case is clear, but there are at least two cases that jump out as flat out murder. Others aren't as clear. Here are 4 that jump out off the top of my head.

Eric Gardner was murdered based upon what I've seen / read. (NY)

Luis Gongora was murdered based upon what I've seen / read. (SF)

Michael Brown was likely shot in self defense. (STL)

Oscar Grant was an accident and involuntary manslaughter was the right call. (OAK)

  8. FDR was in a wheelchair and still one of our best Presidents.

Of course he died in office and possibly at the worst time in the middle of a war...and didn't properly brief his VP on the war status.

I'm also not sure how you could label a man who wanted to "stack" the supreme court in his favor one of our best. He may have been one the most dangerous. http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/roosevelt-announces-court-packing-plan

Today, I would say Hillary's issues will amount to people's views of McCain - its becoming an issue of longevity. Not a major issue IMO, but an issue.

Personally I would argue the best solution to this election would be Hillary winning but Kaine taking over sometime early in her term.

  9. We still have a 3GS that my wife uses when she goes to Russia. The 3GS was a big leap forward in technology, but I'd have recycled it a long time ago if it was up to me. If you just use your phone to make phone calls though, it's still OK.

The charging port is failing and my wife wants me to fix it. I noticed working ones are selling for $30 or so on eBay now, so I may pick one up, but when all is said and done, I'll probably feel like its a waste of $30.

I still use it for email and browsing too. Most newer versions of apps aren't supported anymore.

  10. Repairing cell phones is a hobby of mine, and internally, there's a huge difference in quality between Apple and some of the android phones. The Xiaomi might look as nice on the outside, but often they are skimping where you don't see it. If you upgrade once a year, you may not notice but I'd bet they don't last near as long.

The hard part with android phones reminds me of that Forest Gump quote. You never know what your going to get. I haven't used an iPhone since the 4, but then again if my phone stops working, I fix it, flash it or whatever else I need to do. Or I buy a new one with the money I saved by not buying an iPhone.

In my life, I tend to not upgrade things until they break or become completely unservicable.

    I'm still using a 3gs.

It started to be a little bit of a pain starting a year ago but I'm trying to make it to 2019 with it.
