Preliminary Questions

Hello,

I've been reading the forum for the past two weeks and I'm thankful I ran into this site for guidance on the K1 Visa. I want to ask a few preliminary questions.

  • i129F Form:
    • For employment end date ~ We are both currently working at our jobs. Do we leave that blank? Do I handwrite "present" as it won't allow me to write anything but numbers?
    • Parent's information ~ My father was never in my life. Will placing "NA" in that section suffice?
    • States you've resided since 18th birthday ~ I lived in Connecticut while I was away in college. Do I add that as an address? If so, the form only allows me two states. Thoughts on how I should complete that?
    • I've been reading conflicting responses regarding proof of citizenship:
      • I have my passport and will expire in 2022 and I read that if the passport isn't valid for a minimum of 5 years that I must include my birth certificate as well. Will my passport suffice? Do I need to provide both U.S. birth certificate AND passport?

Thank you all for your help and guidance. I will continue doing research and I'm sure I have more questions.

Bogota Visa Pickup

Can anyone tell me how and if the Embassy will notify the beneficiary when the Visa is ready to be picked up in Bogota? When scheduling the interview we chose "pick up" in Bogota rather than shipping back to the home town hoping that would speed up the Visa Received process. Is there an SOP how they do it? I know nothing in this process is "standard"

Hello! I had a delay receiving my interview letter so by the time I got it in the mail was too late when I schedule my medicals. Tomorrow is my interview and I haven t heard from the doctors office, they say probably they won t be ready. They say usually take 4 to 7 days....

anyone had the same experience?

I never submit my medical in first instance because obviously they will be expired at the time of the interview.

F2A Visa waiting dates jumps foward 2 years. What Should I do?

Hello Everyone,

I was checking the visa bulletin for June 2019 and for my utterly disbelief, two things have happened for this month.

1. June will use the shorter priority date "Dates for Filing chart"

Extracted from UCIS website " Adjustment of Status Filing Charts from the Visa Bulletin" https://www.uscis.gov/visabulletininfo

For Family-Sponsored Filings:
You must use the Dates for Filing chart in the Department of State Visa Bulletin for
June 2019.

2. Priority Dates under F2A category for All Chargeability Areas Except Those Listed: 08MAR19

Extracted from the official "Visa Bulletin For June 2019" https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-bulletin/2019/visa-bulletin-for-june-2019.html

Also from some other ImigrationLaw offices web sites, I found the following information

Charlie Oppenheim, the Visa Chief for the Department of State announced at the Federal Bar Immigration Law Conference in Austin, Texas May17, 201, said that

My spouse s i130 priority date is from 17JAN2019, and he is currently lawfully present in the United States, with an F1/OPT visa. We are sure he qualifies for AOS.

We were expecting a long wait before filling the 485 under family preference. So we were working towards my us citizenship and filling later as an immediate relative However, with this recent news, I m really confused and not sure how to plan things.

I think I ll be sending the 485 so the UCSIS receives it during Jun2019, I don t trust the categories will become current during July2019. This will save as a TON of time and prevent possible separations.
But I don t want to waste my money or jeopardize our current i130 petition.

I m really excited and anxious about this news, I don t want this 485 to be rejected, but everything indicates that they will be receiving valid applications under the listed filling dates.

Any advice, comments? Anyone else on the same situation?

Working online while waiting for a work permit

My fiance and I are trying to plan our financials out whenever he arrives here. (We are waiting on the NOAA 2) Is he able to have an online job aka Upworks or similar where he gets paid into a bank account in his own country and work here while waiting for his permit? I've found info online that says yes and no. I understand online work is a bit of a grey area but he needs a little income coming in while we are waiting and that seems to be the best option. What are your thoughts?
