We're planning on doing a home appraisal on a second property owned by the household member that's being rented out (no mortgage or any loans left on the home). I'm wondering how long is an appraisal valid for? I wanted to make sure we got the appraisal done as close to the interview as possible. But, there's very little information on when our interview will be scheduled, and I'm anticipating that it will happen within the next 12 months or earlier. We're F3, scheduled for Montreal and DQ'd end of July 2020.

Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster! I have kind of a complicated question I want to get your opinions on. I'm planning to call US Customs tomorrow to see what they say about this as well, but I also wanted to ask you all. So, my home country of Canada is going to ease border restrictions for fully vaccinated returning Canadians meaning no hotel stay and no two week quarantine. Yay! I'd like to take this opportunity to see my family, but I'm having some issues surrounding my passport. You see, I still have a valid Canadian passport, but as I got married on a K-1 visa, my last name has changed. I haven't gotten an updated passport yet, so the name on my current passport does not match the name on my AP document. I'd like to see my parents before school starts in mid-August, so the 20-30 day processing times for a new passport aren't ideal. So here's the idea: Leave the US and enter Canada with my old, maiden named passport. While in Canada, apply for a new expedited passport with my new spousal name, pick it up in a couple days, and when the time comes, re-enter with a new passport that matches my AP document. On paper, it sounds like this would work, but I'm also very wary about doing anything that could get me in trouble or affect my status. What do you guys think? Is there a risk to doing this at all, or is it totally by the book?

Kind of random, but how would you handle an issue on the application concerning the point of prior child support/alimony payments? I know an applicant can attach additional pages to explain answers, and a period of unemployment can be written down, but is there any other documentation which would be good to include? I'm sure USCIS has heard explanations of bitter divorces, custody disputes/custodial interference, etc., before.

Hello everyone, new to the forum here and was looking to get some advice on our cr1 visa journey. im a US citizen living with my (common law) girlfriend in BC Canada and we re looking to move to the states. We ve been living here for 3 years now in an essentially married (common law under Canada s definition) relationship in the same house and sharing finances. Our relationship (started online) goes back to 2014 so plenty of time to prove we re a legit couple. In august we are going to the states to visit (finally after more than a year cuz of COVID) and plan to obtain a marriage license while we are there. And after we return we plan to start the cr1 visa process. Just have a couple questions 1: would we have trouble proving our marriage is real since we aren t going to have a wedding? we have joint accounts (in us and Canada) and have been living in the same house for over 3 years and our relationship goes back almost 7 years. Plus we have pics of our travels together and time spent with both of our families. 2: am I going to have to move back and get a job and an apartment in order to meet the domicile requirements? thanks in advance for any advice. We re very nervous to start our visa journey since the visa process for me to move to Canada was such a hassle.
