Community SpotlightDV Lottery of K1 Visa - Can I file for both?
Petrisaint Mpaka posted a topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures,
I applied for the DV lottery 2025 and hope to be selected this year. My fiancé and I discovered that there is a fiancé visa for the USA. Do you think if we apply for the K1 visa but are selected for the DV lottery that we can stop the fiancé visa process? What are the timelines and options here :)?-

Confused about steps after marriage
SP1988 posted a topic in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas,
My fiancee arrived last month on K1 fiance visa and we got married yesterday. It seems from what I have seen online that I made a mistake by not getting SSN prior to marriage? I am going to the SSN office on Monday to gather more information... also worried about employment authorization and travel authorization(s). Thanks for any insights!-

Tourist visa cancelled by CBP agent. Can we still get a CR1 or K1 Visa?
yotajeeper posted a topic in What Visa Do I Need - Family Based Immigration,
Upon my gf's most recent arrival, her tourist visa was cancelled at the airport due to her frequent visits last year and suspicion of working here. She was denied entry and sent back same day. Is a CR1 or K1 visa process an option still? I would appreciate any advice or tips you can provide!-

3 RepliesI am a US citizen. My wife is originally from Honduras. She got her US citizenship last year.
Her brother is in his early thirties. About five years ago, he got in some kind of a fight with a guy who apparently has ties to organized crime. The criminals issued death threats and her brother fled to Spain which, at least at that time, didn't require a visa for Hondurans to enter as a "tourist." He overstayed his visa and has been in Spain illegally since, working off and on.
It's not going well for her brother in Spain and my wife's family says that it would still be unsafe for him to return to Honduras. So their idea is to somehow bring him to the US.
Would this be possible? Back in 2018 when we were in the process for my wife's residency we asked our lawyer about bringing the brother here and the lawyer mentioned waiting times of over a decade for visas for siblings. She suggested a student visa would be much faster, although this obviously wouldn't be a permanent solution and I wouldn't want to be a party to helping my wife's brother overstay his visa here in the US.
Another detail that might be relevant, my wife's brother was arrested once years ago in Honduras for something minor like disturbing the peace and spent a night in jail. That's his only arrest as far as I know, but it could show up on his police record, which I imagine US immigration will ask for if he applies for any kind of US visa.
Thanks!

2 RepliesHi,
I am here because this whole process feels very daunting to me and my partner. We considered getting a lawyer to assist but was advised by multiple people that they are a waste and can prolong the process.
We dont really know where to start. She is the US citizen and I am from the UK. I do have cousins that are US citizens in Florida. Me and my partner have been together for a while now and feel its time to get wed as some would say.
We have no idea where to start, she is currently unemployed and looking for work so as it stands we would probably be reliant on my cousin offering the support for the affadavit. I have some questions im hoping some of you can answer.
If she gets a job prior to the interview would this be fine for her to sign the affadavit of support?
Would my cousin be able to sign the affadavit of support given hes in a different state to where I am looking to relocate?
What kind of evidence should we be documenting as I am looking to make a whole powerpoint presentation to explain everything and make it easier to read?
can I laminate non government documents for example my boarding pass or a letter she has wrote to me etc?
My current job will potentially allow me to work 3 months in the US before I need to resign so would this cover the K1 and then I would just need an affadavit of support for the adjustment of status and work permit period?
If i was to have savings to support myself during the time waiting in the US how much would I need roughly?
Thank you in advance and apologies if some of the questions have been asked before or are stupid questions.

3 RepliesHey everyone! I'm trying to file an I-130 for my newlywed wife (who is currently back in London), while I (a US citizen) am in Connecticut. I previously successfully petitioned for my two Canadian parents back in 2016. While currently filling out the I-130, part 5 asks if I have "previously ever filed for this beneficiary or any other alien", but it only gives the option to list one person in the subsequent questions (name, city or state, result etc.). How do I list both parents in this section?
Thanks--

1 RepliesGood day. My fianc is a US citizen, and he have applied for marriage in Abu Dhabi Civil Marriage Court (AJDJ marriage license). After getting married, we are planning to apply for the CR-1 visa.
I've read that the marriage license we will obtain from the Abu Dhabi Civil Marriage Court does not comply with the USCIS requirements of the marriage certificate, so my question is, which steps does my fianc have to go through to make our marriage license 'fully' legal in the US so that it is approved by USCIS?
We've already figured out so far that my fianc will need to get this document legalized at the US embassy in Abu Dhabi, shall we also make a certified translation of it before or after bringing it to the embassy?
Also the ADJD website does not say that either of us shall bring a document stating our marriage status, except the divorce certificate if one of us has it (but neither of us does). But the US consulate in Abu Dhabi website states that my fianc needs one:
QuoteA marital status certificate stating whether the applicant is divorced, single or widowed. The certificate has to be authenticated and translated into Arabic. Information regarding authentication can be accessed at (Authentication). In the event the person was never married, he or she can write an affidavit to that effect and have the Embassy notarize it. An online notary appointment with the Embassy is required.
So does he need to obtain a martial status certificate prior to getting married or not? Please help, we're totally lost.
