Community SpotlightPSA: If entering the USA 2 years after marriage, kindly remind the immigration officer of this
spicynujac posted a topic in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures,
When we last entered the US, our immigration officer said "Oh, hmm I wonder if I could go ahead and change you an IR-1." The agent right next to him said "Yes, you can do that" and he acted surprised. His comments made it pretty clear he was going to erroneously issue us a CR-1 and he seemed to not even know he could change the visa status until his coworker advised him (THANK GOODNESS she overheard!). I don't know how onerous the process is to correct such an oversight but I'm glad we didn't have to find out!
Just wanted to pass this along in the hopes it saves someone from any problems with the wrong stamp being placed in the passport, as I've read about here before.... I would kindly remind the officer "We married >2 years ago. We can enter with an IR-1 visa now right?"- 15 replies
Traveled to Canada for 20 days after entering the U.S. on a K-1 visa (June 1–22). Seeking reentry under Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR).
Dovahkiinali0605 posted a topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures,
I entered the U.S. on a K-1 visa on June 1st and left for Canada on June 2nd, remaining here for 20 days. I am now attempting to return to the U.S. through Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ) using Automatic Visa Revalidation (AVR). My K-1 visa is expired, but my I-94 is still valid. Am I ok?-

Wrong USCIS application form filed by my lawyer!
narayan333 posted a topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports,
Hello, so my wife came in k-1 visa to USA and we got married and all. We filled for work permit and green card together but while doing that my lawyer filed for I-130 no idea why. Will that application make my process for work permit and green card slow? If so how do I withdrawal that application? My lawyer isn’t helpful at all. I need some help…-

Seeking advice for Thai/US couple - What US visa path to take?
PeachyTocker posted a topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures,
My gf and I live in Thailand but spend 2-4months in the US per year. Once/if we have children age 5+, the time split would become vice versa. We have no plans to live full-time in the United States in the next 5 years, but I visit my family and friends 2-3x per year for 2-3 weeks at a time. I would love it if she can join me for those trips and experience that part of my life. What options do we have -- US visa wise, maybe a tourist or fiance visa later? Other?

Abandoned AOS and now regret it
Mariammaria posted a topic in Adjustment of Status Case Filing and Progress Reports,
Please be nice, I know I made a mistake... But got my K1 approved and arrived in the US June 25, 2024 and applied for AOS February 25, 2025 -- then left the US (abandoned my AOS). Will I be banned for re-entry to the US -- even under a spouse visa?-

US Citizen with Foreign Fiancé: When and How to Get Married?
gandalf1989 posted a topic in IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures,
I'm currently living and working in the United States. My fiancé currently lives in Japan. We have been dating for about 6 months, and we have met in person several times, but we are not yet married.
My fiancé will be visiting me in the United States on a tourist visa some time in March or April and staying for about 3 months. I want to file for a fiance/spouse visa asap -- what's next?-

3 RepliesHi everyone,
I'm 24, from Bangladesh, and I've been in a committed long-distance relationship for more than 4 years with my fiance, who is 74 and lives in the U.S. I know our age gap might seem unusual to some, but what we share is real love, built on deep connection, trust, and emotional support. I'm here because I need guidance; not just with the visa and immigration process, but also with the future of my personal life.
We met online and have talked almost every day since. We've stayed connected through long video calls, shared small gifts, and planned for a future together. We were preparing to apply for the K-1 fiance visa soon and had plans to finally meet in person. But recently, everything changed. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It s not operable, but the doctors said it's treatable with chemotherapy.
His lawyer said he will request a waiver for the in-person meeting requirement (since travel likely won t be possible for him) and submit a request to expedite the visa process due to his condition. We haven't started the process yet. We are trying to stay hopeful, but everything feels uncertain now.
Over these years, I've made personal sacrifices to stay committed to this relationship emotionally, mentally, and in terms of life choices. I don't regret it, but now I'm scared. I had so many dreams of building a life with him. I still want to be with him, to support him, and if possible, continue my future in the U.S. and grow my career. But everything feels fragile.
What I'm hoping to learn:
Has anyone successfully expedited a K-1 visa due to a medical emergency?
How realistic is it to get the in-person meeting requirement waived?
What kind of evidence helps prove a long-distance relationship is genuine if we haven't met yet?
What are the chances (realistically, percentage-wise) that a K-1 visa would be approved in a case like ours, long-distance, no in-person meeting yet, and serious medical condition involved?
And more personally: what would you do in my situation? How do you stay emotionally strong when your future suddenly feels so uncertain?
If anyone has been through something similar, or can offer kind advice or encouragement, I'd be truly grateful. This relationship has meant everything to me, and I'm just trying to do the right thing in a very difficult moment.
Please don't judge my relationship based on your personal view because I can promise you that it's a genuine relationship based on love and respect. And I'm not here to convince you that.
Thank you so much for reading.

7 RepliesMy wife got a notarized document saying that she has custody of older daughter at gong zheng chu in China.
Here's the issue, on I-130 I only filled out 1 divorce for previous marriage which was on 2016 Feb, 19.
The notarized document above(custody paper) states that my wife was married to her previous spouse on 2010 Aug, 26 then divorced at 2016 Feb, 19.
The reality is that my wife was married on 2010 Aug, 26 and divorced on 2013 Jul, 17. Then She remarried the same person on 2016, Feb, 18th, divorced on 2016 Feb, 19th. They did this because the younger daughter needed to be on a family book.
I am now filling out DS 260 and it asks for all previous marriages and divorces. Should I fill out the gap in 2 divorces or leave it as 1? The notarized document for custody does not show the gap, I assume this custody notarized paper will be needed for interview.
Please help, I'm completely lost when I found out about this.

2 RepliesI filed my I-751 Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence about two weeks ago, but I still haven t received any receipt notice (Form I-797C) nor have I received the receipt number electronically. I know there can be delays, but I m starting to wonder if this is normal and I m worried as my gc expires in September.
For those of you who ve filed recently, how long did it take to get your receipt notice in the mail? Should I wait a bit longer or start getting concerned?
Thanks in advance for any insight!

7 RepliesHello -
I am a naturalized U.S. citizen and plan to travel to Italy soon to visit my sister. I have already booked my two-week trip and expect to receive my U.S. passport tomorrow. Could you please advise me on how to prepare for international travel to Italy?
Do I need to complete any forms or registrations in advance? Besides my passport, are there any other documents (bank statements, etc...) I should carry with me?
Would it be helpful or necessary for my sister to write a letter confirming that she will be hosting me during my stay?I would appreciate any additional tips or suggestions to ensure a smooth trip.
