I normally only visit in the summer. But my dad needed me so I went. 

I don't care for -40, either.  That said, without any wind, it's doable.  If there's even a breath of air, it's COLD.  I grew up in Saskatchewan - cold, dry and normally windy.  

 

@TBoneTX you ready for Saturday's dip into the 20's?  We should have our greenhouse arriving today.  We'll move the sensitive plants into it with C9 incandescent lights for some heat.  We just can't move everything into the garage - it takes up too much room and, well, we have ended up with some critters like the little green anoles that Monster would eat.  Best if they just go hang out in the greenhouse in their potted fern home.

A glorious 23 degrees today, snow still on the ground, and rumors that "the big one" is coming for the weekend. 😆

 

Last night was supposed to be a nice evening with movie watching. Instead I noticed that there was water coming into the basement and above in the ceiling a suspicious green stain of something leaking on the copper pipes. Above is where the kitchen sink sits, so I go up there and open the cabinet and.... we've got a problem because everything under there is now 'swimming' and the gunky water is just draining along the copper piping under the floor boards. I know this stupid house isn't built to code and we've had multiple leaks there before. I get everything cleaned out under there but the space is so tight my husband is contorting himself in all sorts of positions, and me with flashlights to see what's going on. The leak seems to be coming internally from inside the faucet itself or at least somewhere up where the not to code copper pipes (you're supposed to have those more silver coated flexible pipes now) run up into the faucet. Anyway we're both up in there struggling with it when BAM! One of the heavy metal flashlights he'd clamped to the cabinet drops and conks me straight in the skull. Oh man, there was blood and dizziness, and did I see stars.

 

I was done after that. Shut the water off for the night and I suppose we'll have to take a trip over to hardware and see what we can buy to replace everything.

I just checked here and will reach into the low 80's this weekend with lows in the mid 60's.

Dip level precised, see and si and   mam ma'am.

Last year's outside-faucet tape fell off only a week or two ago,   we man.

We also have hoses that will NOT come off of both spigots,   we man.

We will wrap warshcloths under plastic bags under tape, hope for best we man.

Fortunately, attic pipes were all covered with foam sleeves a couple of years ago, prepared we man.

Casa heat also escapes into the attic, warm up there by all reports man.

Our biggest thing will probably be Mama T-B. going constantly aysheep over our whereabouts,   man.

Thrilling Tuesday report, see man:

 

We did not leave the casa all day, ensconced we man.

Good night of zzz with proper HSM, defy doctor we man.

 

Breakfast/lunch was 2 ham-&-cheese sandwiches, ingest we man.

A nice siesta was then taken, zzz we man.

 

Tax stuff for Mama T-B. has begun arriving in the mail, aysheep senior she man man.

 

Waited literally all day/eve for appliance guy to pick up no-longer-needed electric dryer, wait we man.

Poor guy had driven for Many (2x2x2x2x2x2x2) miles starting in early morning, sympathetic we man.

All that's left is to await refund, expected without issues man.

 

Big excitement was two unrecognized charges on our credit card, review statement we man.

CC people offered options, new card dispute charge get charge reversed man.

We called the "creditor," big outfit readily findable man.

They found no record of our being in their system, no man.

We re-called CC people, re-call we man.

CC will dispute the charges with near-Many00% chance of rapid reversal, no dispute about it man.

We get to keep CC and can expect account credit soon, relief man.

 

Din-din was 2 bowls of Grape-Nuts cereal*, ingest we man.

     *bought from supermarket dented-package bin, F$WM

 

No party with the rubias tonight, no cavort we man.

Should visit Mama T-B. on Wednesday, practically mandatory man.

Should buy resist-freezing supplies, too, prudent man.

Friday weather should still enable GS-/ES-ing, keep streak alive man.

And that was/is our thrilling Tuesday, report we man.

Not that Amazon typically sends stuff in bubble mailers anymore, but they work wonders for insulating and covering faucets.  

 

I have to grab some pliers and get the one hose off.  Hubs will deal with the backflow preventer for the sprinklers, too.  It blew up one year when I was out of town and our neighbors were nice enough to shut the water off for us!  

 

I wrapped the resin tank for the water softener in a hot water heater blanket last week already.  I did the same last year and it seemed to work well.  

 

I suppose we need to go get groceries before the masses buy all the bread, eggs and milk.  Might be a good excuse to just make some fresh sourdough bread since we haven't in a minute.

Hearing anywhere up to 28 inches of snow, coating of ice, and high winds with windchills -0. I don't hold out hope for the electricity staying on because we'll be dealing with these conditions for 48hrs and no end to the brutal cold anytime soon. I'm sure the panic buying in the stores have started.

 

We struggled a bit on day two of the faucet replacement job, but ultimately got it done and we now have a nice new fixture. There was no information in the store about how long the pipes were and no employees were to be found. Stood around for 15 mins googling to see if anyone knew the specs and was happy that our first choice was adequate enough.

Do you guys have a generator?  Guessing you have a fireplace that will just live on for the next couple of days.  

 

Apparently Centerpoint was testing lines in our area yesterday for robustness in the event of ice on them.  We'll see...Centerpoint pretty much sucks, period.  

 

Glad the new faucet didn't seem like as much of a drama to get in as the old one was to identify the leak!
