We were just going to mail in our N-400 application this week, and now I'm thinking we should add some of these affidavits. Do you have an idea where a template can be found for one?

I recommend filing online.

There is similar requirement where I am to get a Liquor License.

Did not know this was a thing, how practical it is?, anyway seems the last President it was done under was Bill Clinton.

My spouse works in law enforcement, and the vetting was way more thorough than any part of his immigration journey.  The first agency he worked for came to talk to our next-door neighbor about a minor run-in spouse had had with mailman, regarding our contractor parking too close to the mailboxes.   😅

Knowing my neighbors, I do not think any type of unannounced visit by any type of government agent would go particularly well. The best possible outcome I could imagine is they would just shout at them to get the eff off their property and don't come back come back without a warrant. Possibly that would be interspersed with various threats of violence.  Then they would probably try to tip me off that some kind of feds were asking questions about me.  They are nice neighbors but definitely no one you would ever want acting as your character reference.

unless USCIS hires investigators to go out and do this, i don't see it happening, maybe a phone call to a neighbour if the applicant provides a number, but even that could easily be bogus, there is basically no way this could work practically.

my wife is actually good friends with our neighbors so we should have no problem getting them to write an affidavit, but i think a lot of people will have problems with that

I think part of the plan is to slow things down, so they could be sending people out there just for that.
