My lawyer said there should be no problem

Your Lawyer will know the details of your case, I certainly do not. I have no reason or ability to second guess them.

Adding details, I was unsure yesterday if I wanted to share. I used a friend’s ssn for work for 4 months, I don’t know how to disclose it in my visa interview since no one asked. I was also told by my employer at the time to do such things instead of being paid under the table.

Yes, on your profile page.

And yes, details absolutely matter, if you just worked cash in hand with the employer not doing any checks then no problem (forgiven for spouses of USC’s). But if you provided fraudulent documents to get the job then it could be very different.

Did you declare and pay taxes on the money? How much unauthorised work are we talking about?

About 4 months. I guess I provided fraudulent paper. But how do I disclose this unless they ask me.

Like a fake social security number, fake green card, fake US passport, etc.

It wasn’t fake. It was real and someone else’s.

CR1 suggests an overseas case so yes could be misrep etc, devil as always in the details.

Are you saying there could be misrepresentation in the case?

This is literally what you have been told here.

Sounds like you need a lawyer. Better make sure they know what they're doing, as you have avoided providing key info here regarding fraudulent documents. VJ can't help you if you don't provide the full story.

I did tell, I was hesitant

You won't get clarity without giving us the details asked for. But presumably you've provided all of that info to your lawyer, and if s/he says it will be forgiven, then they should know. Don't ever use ChatGPT for immigration advice!

Thank you. I’ll remember that. Is ChatGPT really bad?

So you used someone else's social security number?  That could be an issue.  You definitely need an attorney, and you need to tell them of this.

You used a US citizen;s Social Security number?  You claimed to be that US citizen?  That could be catastrophic.

I didn’t claim to be her. Everyone there knew I wasn’t her. The employer asked me to “get someone’s SSN and use it for the paperwork”.

Actually, you did. Sounds like a lot of people participated in what could be a federal crime since you and the employer knowingly used another real person's SS number for your employment paperwork.

Thank you for the link

You guys are making me and my family reconsider living in the U.S.

Good. Immigration is a privilege, and you've already abused what so many of us are working hard and honestly to achieve.
