Be prepared for that reality. It’s not a small mistake really.

the agent I spoke to today seemed annoyed when I asked him three times about getting the temp VISA stamped and endorsed, and he finally said in a very cross voice "YOU HADE THE VISA ON! AND YOU ENTERED THE USA!, THAT IS ENDORSED" so I stopped asking.

but they have an electronic record of me entering the USA in December while VISA was active and that is what the agent told me .....no?

You entered as a visitor. You needed to enter as LPR.

What does your I-94 tell you? Though I think I-94 for Canadians is another story.

That is not what official USCIS documents say:

https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/temporary-i-551-stamps-and-mrivs

"When a new immigrant first enters the U.S., U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will stamp the passport with an admission stamp that indicates the immigrant has permanent resident status"

If your Green card arrives, it means CBP failed to do their job!!!

Please keep us updated.

I have one question for @Pat J:

On what date does the 1 year of the temporary I-551 end?

Question to all my wise and very knowledgeable vj companions. .. do you think there is any value in OP presenting himself .. once in the US on this next trip.. to a Deferred Entry office with this puzzle ?  If they can see the first entry on the online record  after the visa was issued … Maybe????

So assuming the IV was never used and entry has been as a tourist my first thought is the IV still valid, 6 months from the date of medical?

But that 6/12 validity of the medical would have also expired at the buds expiry date.

No, OP says it was issued in November and expired in March.

Entering as a visitor though, not entering on your immigrant visa and becoming a LPR.
