Not to sound political, but apparently USCIS does have the resources to speed up processing if required.

Meanwhile, regulars like us continue to wait.

Any thoughts or reactions?

Seems to be about 60;000 refugees pa

The last number I saw for asylum seekers was nearly a Million pa

If this impacts at all it would be measured in minutes.

i listen to NPR and shall we say their accuracy in such matters is suspect.

We do not see many Refugee cases on VJ, I would imagine most go the asylum route.

You can sound political. It is clearly favoring white immigrants. Don't know much about what is happening in South Africa, but can't be worse than cartel killing people and their families from South America if they don't want to join the cartel.

So happy to see that one of all world leaders is finally taking the genocide in South Africa seriously. It's been going on for far too long, and they have never received any kind of help from anywhere in the world before.

My understanding is that as much as refugee and asylum statuses have identical pathway to permanent residency and citizenship within the U.S. once granted, they’re different processes: refugee process originates outside of the U.S., while asylee within, which means a person granted the refugee status always enters the U.S. legally.

Since asylum applicants are already inside the U.S., their urgency is less than that of refugee applicants outside of the country.

There are billions of potential refugees so any that are granted is at best performative
