Hello all

Sorry if this subject has been answered to death, I'm struggling a little to find a list on here but if anyone has already answered please do let me know

I got married last week and once we get the marriage certificates we will be filing the online application for CR-1

The main question I have is, what do I need to have right at the start of my application, as in literally when my husband goes to make an account to start the application I assume we need to scan in a copy of the marriage cert but do we need to provide any other evidence at that time, or is this something they request once complete? Do i need to provide proof of relationship at this time or my passport (i am the foreign national UK) or anything like this or do we just complete the form itself? Also as we are filing online will scanned copies be okay and then i assume they ask for hard copies at a later time? Does he need a scanned copy of my passport or anything like that

The licences should come in about 3-4 weeks so I would rather have everything ready to go then if needed

Many thanks

Claire

I would study the instructions of the I130 closely, particularly the General Requirements beginning on Page 6.  At this point, the I130 "Petition" belongs to your USC spouse.  The visa application comes later when the petition moves from USCIS to NVC to the consulate.

Good Luck!

There is a guide here which might be helpful, too.

Not sure where you married but in the UK seem to remember I walked out with the certificate.

You can begin your application online, and the system will save your progress for 30 days. Each time you log in and make changes, the 30-day period resets. However, if no changes are made within 30 days, your application will be deleted. The online platform is self-guided and will inform you of the documents you need to upload. Be sure to read and follow the instructions carefully.

Terminology is King here.  The US Citizen "files a petition" to start the process.  When that petition is approved, the foreign spouse is invited to apply for a visa.  Start with the US Citizen becoming an A-Student of the I-130 instructions, a separate downloadable PDF file.  You can file online or not, but study of the form PDF....AND.....the instruction PDF, will be critical to your ultimate success.   Using the correct terminology is critical to everybody's success, and critical for "helpers" too.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
