Hubby had his oath ceremony in Austin yesterday. It took about 1.5 hours in total and was very smooth. There were about 45 people there taking the oath. All told, from start to finish, it was just over 3 months. We are finally done with immigration. Good luck to those still waiting. :)

Congrats!

Now, I recommend updating citizenship status with SSA (N-400 checkbox doesn't work!), registering to vote (can be done online) and applying for US passport.

We already are planning on this. They advised to give it about 3 weeks to make sure the systems talk to each other. So we are going to take a day off Mid August to have all of it done. They did have someone at the oath ceremony to sign up to vote, but we are doing it when we do the DMV (since they need to be updated as well).

Vote registration can be done online in 5 minutes - https://vote.gov/

I did that on the day I naturalized.

Good luck!

Estimated Time to Decision jumped up from 2 months to 5 months. I know it's not accurate, but it's still a gut punch to see the time increase like that.

On the day my wife received her interview date, her estimate jumped from 3 to 6 months.  Don't let their "system" bother you.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Yeah, I hear that. But it is demoralizing to see people get interviews scheduled within 2 weeks of original submission, yet here I am more than 3 months later just sitting and waiting. I'm hoping it isn't really going to be 5 months.

It used to be 6-9 months before people got scheduled for interviews at one point. For me it always helped having low expectation. When I filed N-400, I was ready to wait over 6 months (processing time was 7 months). But it was a nice surprise to get approved within 3.5 months.

There's many factors here: how busy the office is in your city, whether you have other pending cases (I-751), background, immigration history, and pure luck

Update: July 8 Naturalization interview went smoothly. I recommend everyone look over their application previously and verify all info before the interview, as you’ll verify it at the interview. Ours had an old phone number that I used for my wife’s application which she didn’t recognize and so the agent needed to change it. She also went over the international trips from the past three years and asked about the trips taken between the time of application and time of interview (which of course weren’t on the application). As you know this includes land and sea trips to Canada/Mexico/Bermuda/cruises that people might not remember off hand.

She was told that they’ll send an oath schedule within four weeks and everything should be done within six weeks most likely.

On July 16 (Interview + 8 days) an oath ceremony was scheduled for August 4. So assuming that goes smoothly it would be Application to Oath in 110 days.
