Hey I do the Denver stuff, the people I know tend to look on what is happening in Denver with amusement.

 

Now when I say I go down to Denver I do not mean the downtown bit, actual Denver, but the metro area, Costco I go to for example is in Lakewood, and as far as I can tell they do not play.

 

Unless things have changed which I doubt DPS spends the most per pupil and has the worst results in Colorado.

I wonder how the suburbs resist attempts (or orders) from their big cities to accept illegals.  Chicago was doing this earlier, but I don't remember how the suburbs handled it.

Generally Denver cannot. The only thing I can think of is that Denver has historical water rights but I have not come across that being used. It would need to be State mandated which brings some interesting challenges.

 

I did se something about Boulder, now I know Boulder and it was Progressive before Progressive was a thing. Amused me how they used planning restrictions to have no more than a token minority presence.  So basically they surrounded themselves with a big green belt and the workers bees commuted in.

 

I will be interested how they work around not being able to theoretically do this, I have my suspicions.

 

Even in Boulder the local rag Denver Camera was referred to as the Denver Comrade.

And when that city is Denver in the winter, and the overnight temperatures sink below zero degrees Fahrenheit, the problems are life-threatening.

“Our city is really struggling,” Mayor Mike Johnston told CNN after he visited families in a makeshift encampment – a sign of the unfolding emergency triggered by the mass arrival of people from outside the city.

“This is both a humanitarian crisis for the individuals that are arriving, and it’s a fiscal crisis for the cities that are serving. Those two crises are coming to a head right now.”

Few, if any, of the thousands of people who have arrived in Denver planned for Colorado’s capital to be their destination after monthslong treks away from persecution or deprivation in search of safety and a chance at the American Dream.

But when Texas Gov. Greg Abbott decided to offer free bus rides to get asylum seekers out of his state, the options given were generally New York, Chicago or Denver, migrants said. Each of those three cities has a Democratic mayor and Abbott has targeted them as part of his stated aim for “the rest of America (to) understand what is going on.” Migrants told CNN they had heard New York was too full, believed Chicago would be too cold and thus picked Denver.

The mayors of New York, Chicago and Denver have issued joint calls for the arrivals of migrants to be treated as a national problem with a national solution. They have called for a coordinated entry system, but Abbott’s spokesperson told CNN in December the only fix was for President Joe Biden’s administration to “secure the border.”

 

Just to be clear Colorado is not a Sanctuary State, Denver is a Sanctuary City and years ago were down charging illegals with Agricultural Trespass to avoid the attention of ICE. There is no agricultural zoned property in Denver.

 

 But on the agricultural theme you reap what you sow.

 

And we have had a mild winter. So far.

Committing a serious felony inside the country you are requesting asylum from?   Maybe these folks have a strategy of getting convicted and housed in prison while they wait the 10-15 years for their asylum claim to be processed.

Now I am no expert on this but have seen quite a few cases where just because you have served 10 years does not mean you get deported when you are let, With Holding of Removal etc and some countries just do not want their bad eggs back. Always struck me as weird that you can give visa's to people from Countries who refuse to accept their own citizens.
