My time has finally come to share some news!

My interview has been scheduled! 😁

Such a relief to be honest!

Field office Colorado, Denver (I haven't seen anyone from Colorado so far)

My timeline: 

August 10th - applied 

August 10th - actively reviewing 

November 20th - interview scheduled for December 29th, it's would be the best xmas/new years present in my life to enter the 2024 as a citizen! 

 

Also regarding my case, i don't know if this matters but, my timeline dropped from 6 months to 4 on November 1st. It increased a few days later to 6 months again. Then a couple of days ago it dropped again to 4 months when a day later i received interview notice.

Hi there! My husband and I applied on July 26th. Our field office is Kansas City as well. 

Here is our timeline:

 

N400 application - July 26th (5 year rule) (5 year Anniversary Date: October 23rd, 2023)

Interview notice posted online: September 29th

Interview Date: November 6th

Oath Ceremony Scheduled letter posted online - November 18th

Oath Ceremony - December 14th

My husband had his interview and oath ceremony today and is now officially a US citizen!

 

We waited for 2 hours before he was called in for the interview, which took about 25 minutes. He said they asked him if he traveled often and whether it was for work or personal. He was then told a sentence to write about when we celebrate Columbus Day.

 

Finally, he was asked only 6 questions because he got them all right. They didn't ask to see any documents because we had uploaded everything with his application, which impressed his interviewer. Since we had even uploaded the passport-type photo they didn't need to take a new one of him and just used that on his certificate.

 

By the time he was done it was slightly too late to participate in the ceremony that was just about to happen so he was told to come back in 2 hours for the next one. During the ceremony he and the others received their Naturalization Certificates along with a small American flag, took the oath, and officially completed their Visa Journey!

 

The questions he got asked were:

Who is the current Speaker of the House?

What is the total number of Senators?

Who lived in America before Europeans arrived?

Who is the Father of the Nation?

What is a promise you make when you become a citizen?

Name a war fought by the US in the 1900s?

Mine also dropped from 6 to 4 months and it has been a week. What I just realized that the changes in the processing time is not actually related to whether you will receive correspondence from USCIS or not. However, it may mean that your case has been accessed by a USCIS officer which again does not mean that they have completed processing it. The only indicator is when you receive an interview notice.

 

I am not sure why there is a significant variability in the timelines for applicants whose situations are very similar. And it may be related to the FO, but again I have heard contradicting views of the Montgomery FO and some mentioned that it is fast while others mentioned it takes at least 4 or 5 months. 

 

Also, I just have a feeling that the process was fast by the start of 2023 and it is now slowing down as we are approaching the end of this year. It may be also due to the Fall holidays though.

I was told that it depends on the officer who your case is being attached to. Sometimes a new officer comes into game and gets several cases from the other one. So sometimes new officer receives the newest cases and processes them faster. I think that explains why some people get interview way faster than the other

So my status updated to case is ready for an interview on my i751 but no update on my n400 .. I don’t know if it’s gon be a combo interview … when I inquired about case outside processing time last month , the officer replied that they will make a decision on both cases at the same time .. anyone with this experience ….. don’t mind my typos ..

So, as of now, you have not been scheduled for either an N-400 or I-751 interview, correct?  They will likely just schedule the N-400 interview, then adjudicate the I-751, too.  In my wife's case, our I-751 had been pending for 40 months when they finally scheduled her N-400 interview.  Then, 2 days prior to the interview, they told me I had to be there for a combo interview.   Thus, 44 months after filing the I-751, both (I-751 & N-400) were done at the same time.

So how did you inquire regarding your case? Did you call the USCIS? Which phone number? I could not reach them through the phone.

I filled the case outside processing time form

So I gave the USCIS contact center a call today to inquire about my N-400 case which was submitted on early August and I was totally surprised to be informed that the case is still being processed at the National Benefits Center and the background checks are still being conducted!!

This means it has not yet left the National Benefits Center to Montgomery FO and it looks like the usual sources of delays is the NBC or the background checks part!! This is really an interesting thing if you are from some part of the world which is not favorite to the U.S.

No. It is just N-400 5 year rule. I applying based on a previously granted employment based EB2 GC.
