Wow, had to look it up and it seems I have been here 17 1/2 years.

Amazingly, I’ve been here a little longer than Neon. 🧔🏼

I even remember a time before CEHST, even before moderators. Things could get a little wild back then.

There used to be robust discourse, name -calling, hissy fits and all manner of inappropriate temper tantrums.

VJ once became famous with a right-wing blogger, as a member here let a beef spill over into the outside world, throwing shade at the site in general and threatening to report one particular couple to USCIS for visa fraud. Fun fact, those crazy kids will be celebrating their 20th anniversary later this year.

Then there were the crazy cat ladies. The cats may not be the same, but the crazy is still going strong.

I’ve see couples here make it and make it last. I’ve also see folks for whom this process didn’t work out.

I spent a good few years on here having fun, debating with others and suffering through Big Dog’s smugness about German football.

I took a break after the then Other-than-White power couple called me a racist. I just didn’t need the hassle. Life played catch-up around that time and a while later I went to work somewhere a little more exotic. Time passed and I didn’t really miss it here.

I may hang around here for a little while longer, or, if work, life, or the country gets crazy, I might not have the time. That’s the fun thing about life. You never know what’s around the corner.

The other than white power couple got me suspended for posting a link to FBI crime stats. That's it nothing more. Thing is he was a good guy otherwise.

That was before my Rhododendron status.

I am like you. I go thru periods where I post. I just don't have the passion for politics I use to have.

Ha.  I remember that.

I think that was one thread I tried to stay out of.  That's back when I started trying to stay out of trouble.

I also learned it was a bad idea to drink and post.

Link, please, LS ma'am.

He was somewhat before my time.

I got tired of searching, but I found this mini dig in reference to it in this post from @Harpa Timsah

and a "description" of Gary's wife, in his own words [you will have to create the mental image yourself, or not].

And, as evidence that the times they are changing, but not that much.  This thread/this thread 9 years ago

The problem is more and more people are being taught to take everything seriously, they want respect without earning it.  I have not been around VJ quite as long, will be 10 years this December, but I do remember most of those names and are friends with some.  I do miss Val and her stance on using violence, we did find one thing in common, a love of craft beer.  I also miss the back and forth in CEHST, LiB, and Jacques were fun to watch.

Oh, moi aussi... we should start a craft beer thread...
