Did I mention we finally busted dad out of the old people's jail/nursing home? What a hellish place. It took some doing.. angry phone calls and everything, but we got his doctor to sign him out. Otherwise I think those people were content to keep him there for months laying in filth if they could. The wound is still not healed but supposedly enough time on the drugs had elapsed to clear whatever infections. He *says* he's going to follow doctor's instructions about getting up and moving this time... but he always *says* that. I've not yet seen any evidence of compliance.

Since things had settled a bit, after much pleading, I took my husband to see a GI specialist. He's been complaining for years about his stomach and putting it off because he's scared about family history. He's missed most of his competitive races this year because of it. And this is where I warn you men to please don't ever delay getting checked out, either scans or a colonoscopy. He's reached the point where the condition is really affecting him and the doctor explained that surgery could be a possibility based on what he finds.

The vet offered us another dog again. It kills me inside to say no.. but we just can't right now. Most of his stuff is still laying around and I've yet worked up the courage to pack it away. Every time I do, something comes up to take my attention away from it and so I take it as a sign that I'm just not ready yet.

While we were in the Keys over the July 4th holiday, I took the wife and one of her friends out to the reef, Looe Key, to snorkel and swim.  I always take popcorn, not only to snack on, but to feed the fish.  They LOVE it! (The fish do)  It's just amazing to watch the instant frenzy when popcorn hits the water.  I took a video and posted it on my facebook page.  I got a slew of likes and some comments from friends.

Today another comment popped up from a name I didn't recognize.  Supposed to be a friend.  Took me a few minutes and I had to check on this person...I recognized their picture.  It's a VJ member that was noted for changing his screen name and avatar.  LOL

Yep, I know him, and you probably do too!

Thrilling Tuesday report, see man:

Lunch at Mama T-B.'s old place was beef stroganoff over noodles + flat green beans + sugar-free strawberry ice cream, ingest we man.

We out-cleaned the #2 bathroom cabinets, out-clean we man.

We started on one shelf of the #2 closet, start we man.

We made great progress until finding a large box of family memorabilia, find we man.

One of the first fotos that we saw was of Mama T-B. when young, unsenior she man man.

She was beautiful, si man.

The other day, we gave her a hard time about owning so many purses & shoes, si man.

She said, "I used to get dressed up and go out with Papa T-B., see man," si man.

We had been approaching this out-cleaning job clinically, clinical we man.

We ignored occasional comments from Mama T-B. about "there goes my life," or they didn't register man.

The reason she carried all these things for so long is because they meant something to her, si man.

Now she's an old lady, unable to roll over in bed, praying to die, left with nothing but memories, si man.

We have been disrespecting that, self-disappointing we man man.

When we realized this, we stopped our purging process and couldn't start it again, si and no man.

We took a break and retrieved din-din, broken we man.

Din-din was carved ham, flat green beans (again), and mac/cheese, somehow ingest we man.

We still couldn't restart the process, no man.

We called Mama T-B. to check in on her, si man.

She had the usual garden-variety complaints about the Resisted Living, si man.

She asked how we were and what progress we'd made, si man.

We couldn't give more than a brief generic answer, up-choked we man.

We had promised Papa T-B. on his deathbed that we'd take care of Mama T-B., promise we man.

We haven't really done that, no man.

Wednesday is our birthday, and we conclude that Mama T-B. is our birthday present, si man.

But we won't be able to tell her that, surely up-choke or down-break we man.

We hope that we'll somehow keep our promise to vacate her old casa by month-end, so there's that man.

No party with the rubias tonight, forget it man.

Doc will shoot up our hip with meat-tenderizer Wednesday afternoon, finally relief man.

Mama T-B. will phone us at the exact minute of our birth, done it every year she man.

This will probably be the last time, hope we can maintain composure man.

And that was/is our thrilling Tuesday, report we man.

TB: One thing I always made a point to do was promise my grandfather that I'd find out where he came from. Though he passed well before I had the answers, I stuck with it and now mapped everything out. Then I did the same thing for my husband. Maybe in sitting and listening to stories of the past from your mom, you could document stuff and write it all down. Later on, photos and keepsakes could be added to it. Your son might appreciate it some day. The memorabilia you find is a part of your family history, and it's some of the most precious stuff you have. Memories are irreplaceable keepsakes.. after all. It's not as insignificant as it seems. It sounds like you have done a lot for your mom, more than others would ask of their kids. And yes... there are times we feel guilty that it's never enough, even though we bust our butts to do so and we wonder if that will be us in many more years. My sister often talks about how easy it will be to sort through all the clutter and mess my parents have accumulated when they pass... but I remember knowing how difficult it was when we had to do it for our grandparents. How upsetting it was to find certain family members had taken items without asking or not handled things with care. How they only cared about the monetary value. It sounds like you have a good handle on things and have an invested stake in ensuring it's done right. It can be very overwhelming of course, but keep at it.

Thrilling Wednesday report, see man:

We turned Many years old today, same as or younger than last year depending on meaning of Many man.

Awoke earlier than we would have preferred, still well past Walmarting time for Bro G man.

Fed miu on the Many'th (2+2+2th) anniversary of her having joined our casa, sweet miu man.

Mama T-B. phoned at precisely Many:Many a.m., time of birth of we man man.

We were able to tell her that she was our birthday present, managed to choke that out man.

Cousinette T-B. then texted us happy birthday, appreciated man.

Free lunch was beef noodle soup, S&Ms, peas, garlic bread, and sugar-free chocolate ice cream, ingest we man.

We out-cleared Mama T-B.'s Lane cedar chest, mostly NIP bedspreads et al. man.

Grandma T-B. had gifted the chest to Mama T-B. on her Sweet Many'th (2x2x2x2th) birthday, si man.

We found 2 NIP wheelchair-seat pads among stuff recently under the bed, wow man.

There also appears to be a NIP walker, might give it to Uncle T-B. man.

We threw the linens, pads, and other things into the donation pile, rather rushed we man.

We took fotos of Mama T-B.'s very full closets, senior she man to decide what to keep if anything man.

Got call from Uncle T-B.'s infectious-disease doc, follow-up visit scheduled man.

Got call from suspicious Indian in Kentucky, couldn't understand fishy story so hung up & blocked him we man.

Had doctor caucus at 1:Many p.m. to get our hip shot up with meat-tenderizer, mandatory for we man man.

Was up against time, intense we man.

Went downstairs to find flatbed dolly, none in view man.  :ranting:

Had to traverse entire complex to find one, :ranting: and sweat perspirational we man man.

Loaded donation items, garbage bag, & 2 "gift boxes" onto dolly and into T-B.-mobile, sweat we man.

Jumped into T-B.-mobile, all clothing + sweatband completely hosed man.

Looked so miserable in waiting-room that two noosers asked if we wanted water or other help, hot we man.

Cute medical assistant took us to the shoot-up room, attire ourself appropriately we man.

Doc shot our hip with a Many-dose ([2+1]-dose) cocktail, short- & long-term action man.

We told him that this qualified us as a hip individual, hee hee man.

Left doc's building, still-perspirational we man.

Briefed Mama T-B. on the proceedings, solicitous senior she man man.

Phone-tagged with Claims Rep from Mama T-B.'s long-term care plan, introductory call man.

Took 2 gift boxes of miscellaneous small items into antique shop, pass it by all the time man.

We have attended several of his ESs, in fact man.

Owner wasn't there, wait Many minutes in un-A/C'd shop perspirational we man man.

Finally ducked out to make donation, place just half a mile away man.

Returned before owner arrived, good timing man.

Owner inspected smalls, experienced he man man.

He said, "There's nothing special and it's hard to sell smalls, si and sigh man."

He offered us $Many ($2x2x2x2x2 +2+1) for all, well OK man.

We showed him fotos of the wall/shelf art & furniture at Mama T-B.'s place, interested he man.

He said that the cedar chest lid was curved and not flat, harder to sell man.

He thought that he could offer us $Many00 for the cedar chest, probably cost more than that when new man.

We discussed this with Mama T-B., philosophical senior she man.

We will probably accept the guy's offer, need to clear the apartment man.

We expect to caucu$ with the guy after Many p.m. on Thursday, hope he's fair with us man.

If so, he will wrap, pack, & cart away everything, save a LOT of work for we man man.

Mama T-B. reminded us of costume jewelry in a dresser drawer, some of it rather expensive man.

We were exhausted by this point, actually before this point man.

Went to Favorite Large Thrift Store, search for dusters for Mama T-B. man.

Found one pants for Uncle T-B. but put them back, cuffs not zipper-expandable man.

Found 2 obviously new-from-package underwears for us, buy those man.

Searched fruitlessly for Mama T-B., :ranting: and :girlwerewolf2xn:  man.

Phoned her from outside the store, query we man she man man.

Mama T-B. gave us more criteria, go back inside we man.

We ended up buying Mama T-B. a soft pullover-type thing by DKNY, maybe she can use it man.

It was on Many% discount, not a big expense anyway man.

We were beyond exhausted by this point, unquestionably man.

Intrepidly continued to supermarket on out-of-business closeout, Many% off food items man.

Got soft drinks, bottled water, and miu-food, satisfied we man man.

We were even more beyond exhausted by this point, unquestionably man.

On the drive casa-ward, Uncle T-B. phoned, happy b'day from senior he man man.

Ex-Mrs.-T-B. & Mini-B. then phoned from Ecu , happy b'day from ex-she man & wee man man.

We were disgusted that we had not celebrated anything, disgusted we man man.

We forced ourself to go to proximal Chinese buffet, no not THAT one Bro G man.

We consumed Many (2+2) plates of beef & chicken, ingest we man.

We felt better afterward, not hungry beforehand but we'd done something to celebrate man.

Arrived perspirationally and in desperate siesta-need at the casa, arrive we man.

As we garaged ourself, Busybody Cousinette T-B. called, someone squealed to her about Mama T-B. man. :ranting:

There went Many minutes, bye man.

TB: Can you try a couple of antique shops to see if you can get any better counter-offers? Most of my grandparent's things were sold off at one of the big auction houses/estate traders, but there are times when I pop into antique stores and I almost swear some of their pieces have been sitting in these shops for years unsold. I have my grandmother's Lane chest and I do see those for sale frequently. The shops mark up quite a bit. Jewelry pieces usually do well.
