Dave came to Brazil to meet me in person in 2003 and ended up staying here with me for 2 years while we were completely confused about the process of taking me to the US! We were going to get married here in Brazil and even had a wedding date.... but things got messed up, papers were lost, nothing got done in time, documents expired.... we felt lost!

He didn't go home because we couldn't be apart not knowing what would happen and what we'd do.... so when we read about the K1 and decided we'd do that, he went back to the US knowing everything would be okay eventually and that the separation wouldn't be forever!

So yes, he'd live here with me!

OUR COMPLETE TIMELINE

Timeline

We talked about it quite a bit. But we decided that for him he would do the move here. He speaks better English than I speak Greek. Just started taking classes this year and DAMN it's HARD!!!

Also, he hasn't met my family yet, just my sister. He was denied his travel visa and wasn't able to come last year. It's very important to me that he meets my family.

My fiance also has a 3 year old son who will be 4 in a couple of weeks. He has visitation rights but his son stays with his ex wife. Also we discussed our jobs. After all the thinking and talking we decided he come here.

He has family here, Uncle and cousins and he wants to meet my family very much.

So we decided here for now and travel to Greece every summer to be with his son and family.

And if we decide to go back to Greece I will.

I have always wanted to live in Europe and I love his family so much.

As long as we are together, doesn't matter where we are.

No I would not move to Jamaica. I love it there but I just can't walk around and be myself. Kinda of stick out like a sore thumb. Teachers get horriable pay there and there are lot more oppurtunties in the USA. JA is thrid world and so different. Love it but no way could I survive having someone escort me around all the time and I can't leave and go out by myself. NO NO NO

Well, I already did.

And we've discussed living there again, but I WILL NOT live in Sao Paulo again. I really grew to hate that city!!! :)

I said Curitiba, Florianopolis, or MAYBE Rio (which he hates) but Sao Paulo makes me depressed. Too big and dirty and you pretty much need a car to have a life.

Sometimes he wants to pull the K1 and have me come back there, sometimes he insists we not do that. He's nuts!

The end plan is to retire in Portugal on a vineyard (one of us at least is going to have to study viticulture) but we are both in the process of getting EU citizenship so, hopefully within 5 years we will be living in Europe! (He's not a big fan of the U.S. McCulture as-seen-on-TV and well, neither am I....)

Well, I moved to the USA... but in a little over a month we are moving back to Germany due to mys hubby's military orders. He is very excited and so am I. It wasn't really an option for him to move to Germany prior to the entire visa process, because I had just graduated High School in Germany and he was in the process of joining the US Army.

I can't wait to be back in Germany again. We want to try staying stationed there after he will reenlist in three years. And by then I'll have graduated college... so we might even stay there for good We'll see. My hubby loves Germany (......and beer!!!!!) :D

OK, I know this is an old post but I just saw it and it really pisses me off and I have to respond to it:

Not tryin to argue but I have one question for you ... What will you do if she gets denied ? And denied ? And denied ? If there was absolutely no way she can come here ? It was your choice to marry someone from overseas ... right ? Yes, I have a professional career here that is taking off pretty well. I will graduate from my university in December (I would never leave before graduation), however my husband is way more important then anything tangible. Give me the entire world on one hand and my husband on the other, and I would choose him ... no matter the circumstances, no strings attached. That's all I am trying to say. Haven't you ever heard of "for better or for worse" ?

To me this is a case of "don't judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes". You are just graduating from university, how do you know what it is like to have a child? As other people said, I would do just about anything for my fiancé but I would not and could not give up my children for him.

So, if he didn't get approved, we'd just have to have the annoying LD relationship thing until my kids were old enough to go to college, and then I'd move there. Yes, it would suck. But there is no force on earth that could get me to leave my kids.

My original answer was "yes I would have moved there" but it has a "but I can't" attached to it. If I moved there, I would never see my daughter (except maybe for a week or so out of the year). And I would have some custody battle with my son, which I would likely lose. I would live there in a heartbeat if it weren't for that.
